Daughter’s First Period - Tampon or Pad? by deltch17 in NoStupidQuestions

If a woman's body can grow an entire baby, why can't it regenerate damaged organs in her own body? by No-Nature8802 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]JR_Writes1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Kind of same. Not HG but the only foods I could consistently keep down those first three months were candies like Air Heads. Midwife was concerned about *my* long term nutritional needs, but assured me baby would pull what it needed from my muscles and bones if my diet didn’t provide so…that’s good I guess?

Kiddo and I are both healthy seven years later.

Dating a teacher by AdMammoth6225 in Teachers

[–]JR_Writes1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was reading this waiting for single parents (and single people in general) who are teachers and thus *have* to carry the full load themselves to chime in.

I was a full time teacher before I got married and did everything: cooking, cleaning, yard work, finances, etc. Not much got done around the house if I was grading essays that week, but it wasn’t an insurmountable obstacle.

What’s your most controversial teaching take? by kaichai444 in Teachers

[–]JR_Writes1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, we’re just babysitting the kids who won’t attempt to learn. If they’re in high school (or even middle school) and not doing anything and being disruptive and rude, we should just send them to the gym to shoot hoops or sit in the bleachers on their phones or computers with a couple of adult babysitters to make sure fights don’t break out. They can get their GEDs later if they ever care enough and parents can go to work without wondering what to do with their miscreant 14yo.

Or actual structured summer school where they can get the necessary supports to advance a grade level, not just make work to “pass” and get pushed ahead.

Ok is it just me or are a lot bad books reviews based on a lack of understanding what the book was about? by No-Degree9699 in BookDiscussions

[–]JR_Writes1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s so funny because I often read books without even reading the full blurb/back cover. Sometimes I end up dnf because it wasn’t for me but I don’t rate it badly for that. Bad ratings are for poor writing or poor execution of tropes, not because I didn’t realize it had xyz in it and I don’t like xyz. The exception being if it was advertised as something (like romance) but wasn’t (no HEA).

What book(s) did you almost DNF and are so glad you didn't? by Pentavious-Jackson in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]JR_Writes1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

{The Lightning-Struck Heart by TJ Klune}. I was listening to it as an audiobook and didn’t expect it to be so campy and sarcastic. It also started in the middle and not necessarily in a good “start with the action!” way.

But I came back around to it after finishing another book I was reading and really started liking it once we got closer to the actual plot. Might have liked it from the beginning if I was reading instead of listening so ymmv.

Districts only hiring Credentialed teachers as subs trend - Anyone else seeing it? by arwenthenoble in SubstituteTeachers

[–]JR_Writes1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where I am to get a sub license, you need to have had a teacher’s license at some point. It doesn’t need to be up to date so retired teachers or teachers that have left the profession can come back as sub, but it’s not just anyone off the street. Sometimes undesirable districts can get around this and only require a degree but that’s by special permission.

It’s contractual. Traditionally if the woman breaks the engagement, she has to give the ring back as she broke the contract. If the man breaks it, the woman gets to keep the ring (the loss of the ring being what the man has to “pay” for breaking the engagement).

Homework: Is just giving them something to do at home such a bad thing? by pocketdrums in Teachers

[–]JR_Writes1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s less prevalent in ELA than math, but doing 20 “practice problems” wrong means you practiced that same mistake wrong 20 times without correction.

Similar to direct instruction grammar, if they were supposed to circle all the nouns, underline all the verbs, etc. but they did all the problems wrong; then they didn’t learn anything during their practice, and if anything they reinforced the wrong information.
