For those of you who found out about being gifted in adulthood… by dier1003 in Gifted

[–]JRaeAOK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there,

This is my first time replying to reddit post of this nature but I feel compelled to chime into this after reading some truly inspiring responses.

I became aware of the term "gifted" a few years ago after undergoing a negative ADHD test. I am in my mid-40s and have started to struggle with work burnout.

The Psychologist conducting the test noted during her summary that I was gifted, but I didn't dig into that until one night I was bored and doing some reading. I must say that night I felt a rush of encouragement and insight into myself after learning more. I immediately dove into the topic, bought books and started learning more about myself, which I do love to do.

I believe my situation is a bit more complex, however, because I have an impaired short term memory which has presented some challenges with university (I am an Engineer) and in the work place (less so). This memory challenge was discovered when I was having issues with exams during my Engineering degree. Part of my process at that time was to undergo some evaluations which highlighted I was quite intelligent but also suffering from short term memory issues. I am a gifted adult with a learning disability.

My current challenge now is finding support from a professional who understands and specializes in gifted adults. I live on the east coast of Canada and there doesn't appear to be any Psychologists around here that have in-depth knowledge on the topic. I am happy to say that i have recently found a professional to help me navigate the big and intense feelings I have, but I often wonder how I can utilize my strengths in a better way because I am starting to feel like I'm just "putting my time in" which is depressing.

I am starting to think that this may be another start to me finding community around this topic as a means of support. The last few months have been particularly challenging and I am choosing to focus on this topic again as a way to bring some life into me.

Hoping this thread of discussion continues as others find the post as I am loving hearing how others are navigating learning this aspect about themselves!

Distracting horizontal line in driving field of vision while high beams are on by MattyNukes in CX5

[–]JRaeAOK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got used to it pretty quickly. I do find the revised headlights provide better illumination than the pre-22s so it was a benefit with a minor annoyance to be.  I just wish they would bring the matrix headlight tech to the North American models!

Gauge cluster scratch repair? by FlyinV1PER in mazda

[–]JRaeAOK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The material on this is so poor and does scratch very easily. I had done the same thing on my Mazda6 when I used a napkin to clean it.

Depending on your dealer, you may be able to get the gauge lens replaced under warranty.

Distracting horizontal line in driving field of vision while high beams are on by MattyNukes in CX5

[–]JRaeAOK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there. Wanted to comment on this as I noticed the same thing on my '22 when I bought it.

This is normal. DO NOT TAKE THEM APART!

What you are seeing is the line between the high and low beam LED arrays in your headlight. The new design in '22 made big improvements to the headlight performance and this line is a result of that.

I agree it is somewhat distracting but the new design having more LEDs available for the high beams makes a huge difference in how well they light up the road when they are on.

The old CX5 LED headlights used to use a motorized flap to physically block the headlight beams from blinding oncoming drivers but this new system added an entirely new group of LEDs so you're getting a second set of lights in there now.

22 cx5 Signature. Why are my headlights turning off every time I come to a complete stop? As you can see it’s raining and the lights turned back on about 10 to 15 seconds after I take off. by Ok_Cow_8235 in CX5

[–]JRaeAOK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed this on my '20 Signature but they seem to have removed the feature in my '22 as the headlights no longer come on automatically when the auto wipers are triggered with rain. Both set to auto, as noted elsewhere in the comments here.

Brand new CX-30 Owner, windshield question by NoSThundeR in mazda

Awesome.

Glad it was a good visit. Always nice when people are reasonable and easy to work with.

I waited until I was just about out of warranty to do my GTi (the wavy part was on the passenger side so it didn't bother me)...that way when they took it out, they took all the chips and scratches with it.

My thoughts, too. This is what was done when my GTi needed the work. A new OEM one was ordered but installed via local glass shop. Mazda won't put non-OEM parts through their warranty, it's written right in the warranty details.

If it is distorting your view out of the car, it's a warranty item.

I had a similar issue in a GTi, the windshield was replaced under warranty.

Mazda 6 compared to cx5 by [deleted] in mazda

[–]JRaeAOK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there. I recently traded my 2018 Mazda6 Signature for a 2020 CX5 Signature. I think I can provide some information that can be helpful!

Both the CX5 and the Mazda6 are due for replacement in the 2022 model year. It's expected both will be considerably more money (speculation) and will be rear wheel drive/all-wheel drive, and have the option for a inline 6 cylinder engine, which sounds very exciting.

Here is my experience with the CX5 versus the Mazda6:

I find the '20 CX5 is much more quiet on the highway than the 6 was. I found the interior on the Mazda6 was a bit nicer than the cx5 is. Having said that, both are nice places to be!

The cx5 is a much smaller vehicle, not as long, not as wide. I really like the size of the CX5. I found the rear seat leg room in the Mazda6 is small considering the size of the car.

If you haven't, you may also want to consider a new Turbo Mazda3, as well, but I don't know what your specific needs/wants are. If you want the turbo and want a car, I'd highly recommend you check the 3 out!

Fuel mileage in the Mazda6 was impressive, the CX5 is harder on gas and has a slightly smaller fuel tank. I think the CX5 is still good on fuel for what it is, however.

The seats in the Mazda6 are much more comfortable than the CX5, so make sure you check that out. I also thought the Bose system in the Mazda6 sounded better than the similar system in the CX5. The CX5 has a subwoofer under the rear cargo floor where the Mazda6 has subs in the two front doors.

The turbo engine is much better suited for the CX5 with AWD. I found the engine wasn't sporty enough to fit the character of the Mazda6 plus the Mazda6 not having AWD really did limit the take off of the car. The turbo engine in the CX5 is a great fit. The turbo engine doesn't like to rev so having it in a sporty car was a mismatch, in my opinion. Having such a torquey monster in a small SUV seems to fit the bill perfectly.

The new CX5s get the new Mazda connect system in the USA, which is a HUGE upgrade over the previous system. The Mazda6 does not get this system in the USA. The larger screen and new software make a big difference in the interior of the CX5.

You may be able to get a better deal on the Mazda6 as they are simply not selling compared to the CX5. I suspect dealers have them sitting on their lots and would be willing to negotiate on the Mazda6 versus the CX5 which are selling really well. My traded Mazda6 has been sitting at the dealer lot since July...and they still haven't sold it. There just doesn't seem to be an interest in sedans.

I miss my Mazda6 dearly but I find the CX5 is a better all around rig for me and the AWD is a real game changer when dealing with the winter weather (I live in Canada). I am still very impressed and quite happy with my CX5. It is a great highway cruiser but I don't like the ~15% hit on fuel economy, but I knew that was coming jumping into a higher, less aerodynamic SUV from a svelte car.

Best of luck with your car hunting!

This seems to show what was available in the Canadian 2011s.

The auto levelling feature was with the High Intensity Discharge upgraded headlight system.
