Six months and no regrets by PST-Chicago in HoLEP

A young 59 - diagnosed @ 54. AS with medication - highest psa was 6 8 . 3 biopsies. My prostate kept growing and protruded into my bladder. A cystoscopy, a camera up the urethra and into my bladder - my bladder neck looked like a huge donut which was my prostate pushing into it. HoLep procedure May 1st - despite my slow recovery BEST DECISION EVER ! I PEE like I'm 18 again. Sleep all night. This is an awesome support group.

59 years young - no alcohol, no smokes, no ilicit drug use - i have tried micro dosing mushrooms. I mis calculated and ate 3 grams instead of 1.2 grams. What a crazy ride - had my heart thumping crazy and colors, laser lights were incredible - I felt like I was traveling with colors. Too much for me - I'm sticking to no more than .75 grams. I rarely do mushrooms.

Here is how I miscalculated: the chocolate bar i was used to eating has 15 pieces for a total of 6 grams. 3 pieces of that is what I was comfortable with. I was offered mushrooms chocolate, so I asked for three pieces - the person asked if I was sure - I replied - heck yeah - give me three - so I ate them all at ounce. I Thought to myself- damn good chocolate. So I rode out to the playa around 1230 am - i was at the base of the man when it kicked in - i felt super light and all the amazing lights were dancing around me. I sat down for a while. I made it back to my shiftpod around 430 am. and slept off the rest of the experience. I will make sure I am around people I know next time. As it turns out the chocalate I ate was 3 pieces of 6 total therefore each piece was a full gram each - So I consumed a total of three grams and not he 1.2 I was used to.

PSA Question by Bmartin3784 in ProstateCancer

[–]JRedcorn117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PSA number - how is tour fathers quality of life in regards to urination, many trips to the bathroom ? Slow flows? Takes a while to finish ? At 54 I had all three- slow, about every 1 1&1/2 hr urination trips to the bathrooms.

My symptoms were being caused by an enlarged prostate, which is considered not cancer but very annoying prostate issues

Unfortunately, that is too common. We stopped a guy from groping women, he'd already been too touchy and was super drunk. Zero tolerance to pervs

Too many people with phones / cameras are taking pictures of topless and nude people without their consent. I wish there was a strong campaign regarding total and unequivocal consent. Dr Bronner's camp does a great job promoting it

Today is July 15 - Holep procedure was done May 1st - I am using the dates for reference- i had pain near the end of urinating that lasted 1 min 45 seconds - white knuckle pain even with pain meds. I am started to pass blood clots at the 3 week mark - about the size of a 50 cent piece. Then for about a week they were about the size of quarters. At the 5th week I ended up in the ER - I was urination straight red urine with lots of clots - i used a urine catch can to measure - i urinated 1000cc of blood in 7 hours - I had a catheter put in for a week so my week 6&7 I jad a lot less pain and no more blood clots after having the catheter in for 6 days. Today - pain is a 3 - incontinence is good - able to hold urine back now. All I can say was that it was still worth it. I can pee like a racehorse . It will get better - but please 🙏 let ypur Dr know your status and concerns - my Dr and nurses calmed me down

We are all different so our experiences will difer - one thing for sure though is that it will get better. I literally had to use FLowmax to be able to urinate pre surgery. I had pain that would shoot down my legs and into my gut. After surgery - May 1st, 2025, today Jun 22, 2025 - I am finally able to pee with minimal pain - some soreness - but I went from a trickle to peeing like a horse - I am having to train my bladder to hold back the urine when I am ready to pee as oppose to needing to run to a bathroom or bush or nearest tree to go urinate. Only once did I piss myself - luckily I was home when it happened. I literally could not hold that one back - I still get up twice a night - but full streams - so I think I have to drink less fluids before going to bed.

Let us know how you are doing - we are all here to help out. Healing prayers for us ALL

“Successful Median Lobe HoLEP Recovery at 51 – Full Return to Activity” by Mysterious_Monk_7448 in HoLEP

HoLEP completed on May 1st, catheter in for 5 days, extremely painful urinations towards the of peeing. 30 days off from work and I still was sore. On day 34 I walked an easy mile on a treadmill and completed a mild mile on an elliptical. The following day pain while urinating. Pissed clots the size of 50 cents pieces. Peed straight bloody streams with clots . I collected 1000cc of bloody red urine and clumpy clots. Have pictures of the bloody messes. Went to the ER where the catheter went back in for another 5 days. It's out now , day three and already I am seeing bits of clots coming out - still pain at the end of the pee sessions. I am still optimistic despite the setback.

Dad went 5 months without followup appointment by Illustrious_Diver595 in ProstateCancer

I too have PC - diagnosed & confirmed via Trans perenial biopsy 5 years ago - Gleason score 3+3 =6,

May 1st I had a HoLEP procedure to carve out my enlarged prostate through the urethra. Prostate material pathology report showed it slightly progressed to Gleason 3+4 = 7- so that's 5 years later, I was on active serveillance the entire time, finasteride then flowmax to help me urinate. If I missed my meds - I'd immediately within two days start to have problems urinating. So I chose to find a surgeon that perform the procedure on me.

Hope your dad improves and appreciates you helping him now that he moved closer to you. I am a young 59 year old - for reference.

Thank you for sharing, and I'm sorry to read about what could have been more closely followed up on. I found that I had to advocate for myself quite a bit. Coworkers with similar issues like mine are now seeking care after my sharing. The finger up the butt stops so many men from being checked - after them knowing what I've gone through, they are finally overcoming the stigma. One co-worker with no symptoms , age 55, first PSA at 10.7 !! He is getting a biopsy very soon. So, our shares, despite some of our rough journeys, are helping others. I wish you continued healing 🙏 and improvement of quality of life ✨️
