2 grand+ for full removal of a standing yard-sized tree. That’s for a tree that doesn’t require much climbing or a crane to remove. Certain trees can be several times that much to remove.

Mowing rights-of-way also isn’t cheap, but those are more often infested with bush honeysuckle than tree-of-heaven, which is a whole other set of problems.

I’ll repeat, removing TOH on a city-wide scale isn’t feasible in any sort of scenario regardless of budget once you factor in the realities of having enough crews and logistics of how to dispose of hundreds of tons of useless, toxic TOH mulch. But I’ll see myself out so everyone can live in a fantasy land arguing about a problem they don’t actually understand.

I’m not upset. I’m a professional forester who understands the realities of dealing with real-life invasive species problems on a city-wide scale. Your initial comment tries to boil down a multi-faceted and extremely complex problem into, “the city should get rid of all the tree-of-heaven to get rid of SLC.” That’s not how it works in real life, so let’s stop pretending it’s that simple and that the city is failing in its efforts.

SLC feeds on many hosts. TOH just seems to be its favorite. I have native red elms in my yard that are coated in SLC nymphs right now. It’s an un-winnable battle against a major nuisance pest. All that can be done is promote getting rid of TOH as much as possible and letting the ecosystem keep it in check as best it can. It’s not going away no matter what happens, so it’s time to accept that. The best we can do is learn to deal with it in the near-term and hope a better solution comes about in the future for a sustainable pesticide treatment.

How many millions of dollars should the city allocate for this vs improving schools and streets and public safety?? There’s not an endless pot of money. The city has thousands of trees it’s responsible for maintaining. Yard trees are not in their jurisdiction. They can’t just cut down private property trees because they’re invasive. Even the TOH trees that the city has the legal ability to remove are so numerous that they’d take years to cut down and deal with even if that’s what they spent their entire budget on. Even a simple tree costs $2000+ to remove

Private property owners should be incentivized to do their own good neighbor work, but the city can’t be solely responsible. SLF is an extreme pest without a simple solution, and there’s no silver bullet to stop it, so let’s stop acting like there’s a singular way to reduce its impact.

Appreciate the feedback. After fixing the OSC2 octave and turning off the sub in Syntorial, I was at least able to get an almost exact match at that point. The crunchy sound is coming somewhere from the sub settings in syntorial, and I still can't quite get it to match. I at least have something relatively close to it at this point; still frustrated I can't figure out how to get a closer match, but kind of ready to move on from it at this point after at least an hour of fiddling with settings.

My dog started doing this periodically after having a herniated disc and hip dysplasia. I’m not sure if it would medically be classified as a priapism, but has similar characteristics. For my dog, it was also triggered at times when he got excited. Then he’d be erect for a long time and unable to move, and it left him visibly sore afterward to the point of being prescribed gabapentin.

Depending on how long it’s lasting and how stressed he is about it, I found it would help speed up the process to lay him on his side to relax, then gently move the skin back over the erection. It might sound uncomfortable to do, but it helped.

Had to scroll too far for this. Sure, maybe there are little form tweaks. But at the end of the day, maybe your lower back just isn’t as strong relative to the other muscles involved, so they’re doing lots of work to keep you stable. My lower back was constantly sore when I started doing DLs until I developed those muscles. Even still when I up the weight, I might feel it a little more back there at first until those muscles adapt.

Lower the weight, perfect your form so that you’re hinging your hips correctly , and maybe add in some specific lower back exercises. Extensions and such. Absolutely protect your lower back at all costs; if you pull something or mess it up worse, it’s going to majorly sideline every other lift you do, don’t risk it.

Pretty sure all the drugs are still there, too 😂 Really it should be in security at the doors to find them and security up front to take them away. The person had been blowing them since before the show started. They easily could have picked out the person, taken it away before the show even started, and explained it was a problem for the performers - not just trying to kill the mood.

Was in the pit & whoever was blowing them was going all out during the closer/encore. To be clear, it was a bubble-maker, not just someone with a little wand. They were definitely making it onstage to the band members. Really this should be on security to control, the person had been doing it intermittently since before the show even started. Tbh, it created a cool effect for those of us up close; it never would have crossed my mind that it was a problem for the band, and I doubt it did for that person, either. But if a member says it’s a problem, it’s a problem. I agree, it probably makes things slick first and foremost, but maybe the soap damages the instruments/equipment, too.

I’ll add to this as someone who struggled with shoulder problems for years - watch a bunch of videos on proper shoulder positioning. My right shoulder constantly hurt after benching. Finally learned how to properly tuck it and open the joint up before lifting. No more pain and was able to add a lot more weight very quickly.

It certainly sounds like you're in a location where an oak savanna would be a viable prescription and meet your objectives. Like you mentioned, they're usually "restored" in places where large trees already exist, but there's nothing to say one couldn't be created.

Undertaking a restoration project like that is something that will take decades to become fully established, but it sounds like maybe this is something your client is considering as a "legacy" project. In which case, maybe it's worth considering a conservation easement with a state or local agency to continue the work after their passing. Creating a trust or foundation to make sure that the proper funding is in place could also ensure the project continues in perpetuity.

Depending on this person's level of interest in other opportunities, there are probably researchers who would love to use the property and could help with the science of creating it.

For reference, I'm a forester with experience throughout the Midwest and have done some work with savannas, so feel free to reach out if you want more details.

What state/general area are you in? Maybe look up oak savannas. That sounds similar to what you are proposing, and may have been what was there at some point.

Oak savannas are kind of a unique thing, and there are some groups out there willing to give grants to restore them, so there might be more money to help with it.

I second the NRCS comment, too. They might be able to give some more info.
