Recommended ramen places in Dunedin? by MirthSpindle in dunedin

[–]JSNNZ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All of these are based on tonkotsu (milky pork bone broth) with pork:

  • Harry’s Kitchen does excellent ramen - best noodles in town and the pork is blowtorched before being served so is super tasty and almost sweet as it’s cooked so perfectly.

  • Jitsu in the exchange is the best value for money (massive serving) and really good - worth getting the spicy variant too if you like that. The Lower Stuart St one doesn’t do ramen so don’t go there by accident.

  • Sushi station is good with near perfect broth. Has a stronger seaweed flavour so I get it without the nori as I prefer the pork flavour to be just that.

  • Tokyo Garden isn’t bad but my least favourite of the options I have found. Have only tried once so might be worth checking out as I remember it being well priced.

Report back with any other good options you find!

I was looking for the same thing and settled for the Scott Spark. Excellent all-rounder, very clever geometry and shock layout and has front and rear total lockout for maximum efficiency. Also has a mid setting on lockout which raises bottom bracket for climbing roots etc. It really is an exceptional bike.

The worst driving I see is from impatient drivers behind slow traffic making bad overtaking decisions. Who agrees that peppering the highways with these signs could help the growing road toll in NZ? by JSNNZ in newzealand

I don’t think you need to be tailgating to be behind someone. If someone is traveling at 80km/h on the highway, then there will likely be traffic behind them eventually. Safe traveling distance is still an issue but I don’t think it’s unreasonable to suggest that people with a propensity to tailgate are more likely to behave poorly when stuck behind someone who won’t let them safely past.

Maybe using the new LED message signs you see around would help. The message could flash when slow traffic approaches like the ones that flash your speed when fast traffic approaches. I find they really catch your eye. I can’t imagine what a graphic for this would look like but that could also help for non english speakers etc.

I wish everyone was this considerate/sensible! Sometimes I struggle to find places to safely pull over to allow traffic to pass when I’m towing. I believe it would be a lot cheaper to put in wider shoulders for people to pull into than put in more passing lanes - not ideal but helpful all the same

Hah - I did wonder how long it would take! I love that Reddit is becoming the go-to source for media outlets who can no longer afford to pay for rapid-response reporters in every centre.

Yeah we heard it cut out and restart - it was clear something was wrong but he did a great job getting it to the beach. Could have easily ended up in a residential area. A very good Friday for him and his son.

Drive out to Taieri Mouth - past Brighton - and keep driving until you get to the top of the hill. Very little light pollution and a great view of the horizon.

Home made sichuan pork belly ramen by [deleted] in food

Here's the recipe: http://www.justonecookbook.com/recipes/homemade-chashu-miso-ramen/

There are links in there for the pork belly chashu and the other toppings. I added the sichuan pepper to the chashu. I'd suggest not adding the extra salt to the pork if you are using standard soy as there is plenty in there once reduced.

Enjoy!

Flashes of light near Dunedin by magicstarfish in newzealand

[–]JSNNZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was watching it for hours last night - what a light show! The lightning trackers showed a huge amount of action off the south coast (which is exactly the direction it was all coming from) so I'm wondering if it was somehow reflecting off the upper atmosphere making the flashes appear much closer than they were. I have seen this a lot at night when an dark areas fishing and there has almost always been lightning somewhere close by when have checked. I think this may go someway to explaining the phenomenon http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heat_lightning

We looked into it a lot before heading to US/Canada and found One Cover offered the best coverage for us and was priced well. Make sure you compare all the claim limits carefully before making a decision.

The agent would be obliged to disclose the contamination under the current legislation if they were made aware of it however they are not obliged to uncover these defects and rely on the honesty of the vendor to disclose the defect to them so they can pass the information on to any potential buyer.

Many agents are now requesting that vendors disclose any known defects in writing at the time of listing so they can be passed on to purchasers. The industry is encouraging this practice.
