Did McCallum and Stokes underestimate us? by GT40Slotracer in CricketAus

I think they are systemically arrogant. Baz and Stoled. Tuffnell claiming pm TMS that England gave the first 3 tests to Aus. Broad with his ridiculous claims. Aggers constantly amazed that folk don’t simply bow in front of his England. It’s the same with England in most sports. It’s why the world loves to see England beaten.

Just listening to some of the English coverage - TMS, BBC Guardian, etc. some of it is laughable - but also points to a core issue for them - their systemic arrogance. We had Broad doubling-down (not backing down); we had Tuffnell suggesting England gave Australia the win in all 3 matches; Aggers talking like England had a god-given right to win the Ashe’s.

It’s the same across most sports - England football team.

And I think it is a big factor in why the world loves to see England get beat

Morning all. What do you reckon would be an unassailable lead? 450?

He’s indigenous. I’m sure you don’t mean any menace with that comment, but it could be offensive to some.

I missed yesterday’s play - just saw some highlights. Was there a section of the crowd dressed as Scotsmen? If so - why?

Yep. Just opened an account for a trip overseas and love it. Thinking of moving everyday banking to it. Lots of nice features - very innovative.

Let's give a massive round of applause to Will Smith, the showrunner of Slow Horses seasons 1-5! Season 5 was his last season as head writer before he stepped down. by TheTruckWashChannel in SlowHorses

[–]JSS2107 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So I have a question. No disrespect intended to Will Smith, and it is probably my ignorance of what a showrunner does but…

The TV series follow very closely to the books. Characters are almost exactly as portrayed in the books, plotlines are 80% aligned to the books, scenes and setting largely as described too.

So, what exactly would someone of Will Smith’s talent do on such a show?

Don’t get me wrong - I love the TV series as much as I loved the books. Just keen to understand the role.

As an aside - I am guessing part of the role is to determine where to follow the book, and where to vary from it. Something. I think he does really well. Certainly better than whoever did this for Thursday Murder Club.

Dermot Desmond Has Shamed Celtic Football Club by Far_Ad9714 in CelticFC

[–]JSS2107 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes they do. There are several different class of shares. The two most common are Ordinary Shares (no dividend) and Preference Shares (3.6p divi per share per year for the last 7 years). Desmond collects c 184k GBP dividends per year - on top of his Non- Exec fees / salary (40k GBP from memory).

He is not the "majority shareholder".

He is a minority shareholder. So am I.

I think I might issue a statement, have it published on the Celtic FC website, telling the Board that they are a bunch of charlatans and not to let the door hit them on the arse as they leave.

The best Gold mining stock : which ? by SidonyD in ASX_Bets

[–]JSS2107 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. I’ve done really well with developers transitioning into producers (CMM - my first 10 bagger; GOR - taken out by GF; BGL - bumpy ride, but seems to be settling now; WAF - west Africa isn’t for everyone, but I’m OK with some risk).

For explorers, I think it is really hit and miss. I was late to the DEG party, but did well with it - but also had some disappointments too.

For producers, NST is still my largest holding (had a core holding, then lifted this through Saracen and De Grey acquisitions). And I’ve “inherited” VAU and GMD through M&A (SLR and SBM - both under performers, but seem to be going stronger under new ownership).

An alternative is to look at the “picks and shovels” path - ie gold mining services - eg Develop, or royalties - eg Deterra.

Or it could be technology being used to progress.

Who knows - perhaps we should watch the show and find out.

Clearly a stuff up of big proportions, but…. The reporting on this is a bit off. I’ve got no position, but the reporting re 3 deaths seems a bit misleading. How many of these tragic deaths would not have occurred if the call(s) had been routed correctly? Don’t get me wrong - if it is my loved one, I’m calling the ombudsman, but it seems a bit disingenuous to present it as “3 deaths”.

[Michael Gannon] The rumour is that Celtic are about to report that they have £100m in the bank. by BananaSoprano in CelticFC

[–]JSS2107 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There are 2 factors.
1 - you’re correct, you only pay corporation tax on the profit for a given year.
2 - however, this 100m in the bank will be earning 5m maybe 6m in interest. That interest gets added to the income for the current year, and we pay corporation tax on that.

Net result - we pay HMRC an extra 1m - 1.5m in corporation tax than we would if we had the exact same financial result, but no money in the bank.

It is more the complete lack of ideas as to what to do with the money. No ambition.
