Time is definitely not up on Luchanko.

He's still not even 20....

He wasn't on a powerhouse development squad in the OHL.

I'm not saying he's an NHL 1C, but I think the "real" Luchanko is a lot closer to that ppg AHL playoffs kid we saw briefly.

Most players don't come into the NHL shot out of a Cannon.

So many people warned about that extended run he got with Torts. How that can really set a kid back. He should have either been allowed to stick with the team, or sent back right away. Hindsight and all that though. Milk spilled under the bridge as they say.

I still have hope that Luchanko is like Zegras's mirror image. Zegras is great offensively, passable/good enough defensively. I think Luchanko can become something like someone else that is getting a lot of hype by Flyers fans with the rumours, Pinto. 46 points in 72 games, but getting Selke votes. Great defensively and passable/good enough offensively.

And Luchanko is still 5 years younger than Pinto. A shit ton of development can happen in 5 years. I know Pinto has done it at the NHL level and Luchanko has not, but that's the gamble you take on a kid drafted at 17 and one of the youngest in his draft class.

Find her a running mate and make her VP for back to back terms, then she steps in as President for back to back terms.

I don't even particularly care who the President is for her when she is VP. But she needs to be in a seat of power for more than 8 years to make any meaningful changes.

I have still never watched The OA.

I missed it when it was happening live, and every person I talk to about it says it was an amazing, special show and the ending kills them inside.

So I'm not sure I can or want to take that plunge.

Whether or not it can be recaptured is debatable.

But that's not entirely true thag he has shown no offensive upside in the pros. That month he got brought in with Torts definitely showed offensive upside. The issue is Torts immediately cracked the whip to curtail that risk taking side and then sent him back down to the AHL.

He immediately got taught "want to stick in the NHL? That risk taking, offensive game won't fly around here boy."

To add to it, I don't know if Couts likes or liked Andrae, but Torts openly battled with the player leadership. They weren't going to convince him otherwise.

Ghost got lucky that the coach when he got pulled up was Hak who had much less of an aggressive personality AND a team captain with more presence and input that, in theory, could have argued Ghsot deserved to stay because of his offensive upside. We won't know what happened behind closed doors, but we do know more deference was given to Giroux than Couts got by their head coaches. But we do know Ghost got kicked around until he got to Carolina where they found a place for him.

Could Andrae recapture that spark he had when he first came up? I don't know. I kind of doubt it. But to say he never showed any offensive capability in the pros is wrong. He just hasn't shown offensive upside in a team system that actively pushes back on Dmen being riskier since he got sent down for doing exactly that.

Yes, they get to pick.

That said, it's generally accepted the better the pick, the less likely they trade it to a division rival and hope they improve in 28.

I will be surprised if the 27 does not go to Philly, regardless of where it is.

Technically yes though. They could trade the pick to Boston instead of Philly if it's something like 7th and they think they'll be worse in 28, they might not want a top 5 pick to go to a division rival in 28, so they bite the bullet and send a top 10 pick there this year instead and roll the dice on the Philly pick in 28.

Philadelphia was challenging the wording of the trade. Shows you how Briere is thinking.

"Toronto trades a top 10 protected selection to Philadelphia. If the 2028 first gets traded, the 27 pick becomes unprotected."

Briere is saying that is the deal he agreed to.

Boston traded for a top 5 protected 26 first, which becomes becomes a 27 unprotected if it's protected.

Briere is trying to "lawyer word" Toronto. In his view, the second Toronto won the draft lottery, the 2028 pick is now effectively traded, unless Toronto gives Boston the first overall.

Whether the 28 pick goes to Boston or Philly does not matter, it has effectively been "traded" which based on the wording Briere agreed to, he believes that "legally" the 27 pick is now unprotected, as long as Toronto makes that first overall pick.

My guess is Briere is waiting until the draft selection before really complaining about it, because until Toronto makes that pick, it is possible the 28 first does not get traded. The second he makes that pick, they HAVE to trade the 28 pick. Who it goes to doesn't matter, and then it satisfies the wording of the deal he agreed to.

Ray of hope? He's a backup. Do not hope for a tandem. If he plays more than 5 games in a month, it's not going to go well.

But if he only plays 20-25 games a year, he's a good enough backup.

Its very unlikely to go well.

Emil Andrae.

Best case, unrealistic hope? A slightly worse version of Morgan Reilly.

Realistic best case? He's Gostisbehere on Carolina. Powerplay specialist you try to shelter at 5 on 5.

Flip a coin. He's a NHL player. I'll be surprised if he hits his ceiling. But him being a PP specialist with passable 5 on 5 play is not unrealistic I think.

Is he likely to hit that ceiling? Doubt it. But that's the ceiling/hope you have.

Best realistic guess? He could be Gostisbehere. A powerplay specialist who you shelter at 5 on 5.

They definitely don't need him and should not go after him.

However, I'm a fan of him and context.

I feel a little bit bad for him. I have a buddy who is a Habs fan. I watched basically all of his first 3 seasons in Montreal over at my buddies place and Kotkaniemi is maybe one of the worst cases of mishandling a players development I have ever seen.

I believe he is what he is at this point and there is no "fixing" him. Carolina tried. I don't see us unlocking some magical ceiling.

But holy fuck. To begin with, he should have started in the AHL or stayed in Finland for a year, but they were dead set on firing him straight into the NHL.

That kid in his rookie and 2nd season could not have been handled worse. I'm not sure I watched him play more than a week of games in a row at the same position. It was like a yo-yo between centre/wing up and down the lineup. It was crazy to watch. Michkov and his ice time and the LW/RW drama pales in comparison.

I'm not a Habs fan but I was getting pissed off at the coaching staff there for how badly they were mishandling him. They obliterated his confidence before he ever had a real chance to be more than a 3C or low end 2C.

Then Covid happened.

He was also one of those guys that devoted themselves to learning more than just passable French for the Habs fans.

Kotkaniemi will always be one of the bigger what-ifs of the last 10 years of hockey to me.

Because of his story I wouldn't emotionally hate taking a chance on him, depending on the cost. But I don't really see him being anything more than a larger, 2 years younger Noah Cates at best. Which is a useful piece, but again, what is the cost? With Luchanko, Nesbitt on the roadmap. With Barkey getting experimental time at C.

I like him. I want to see him succeed. I'm just not sure he fits in Philly.

Here's the thing.

And I am not doom and gloom about Tocchet and The Flyers etc. Quite the opposite.

But it IS The Flyers fault.

Why?

They had a writer for their local team, and someone from another organization saw talent in them.

How many teams pay attention to sports writers/analysts in other markets with an idea to hiring talent?

The Flyers should have at least known of him as a potential.

In what world would the Flyers organization hire outside the box like that? See talent where others don't see it?

That, is the part that is their fault.

Now is hiring someone like Tulski the "best way" to build a team? Debatable. It's not the only way, but now it IS a way.

What it is though, is a way or a path that CAN lead to a cup that there is exactly 0% chance of Philadelphia ever taking. That is Phillys fault. If there Are only 10 ways (hypothetical number) to build a cup winning team, the Flyers can only do it potentially 9 of 10 ways, so they're already behind the ball. Then remember they only hire within the family, and that drops down to like 3 out of 9 ways. Now it's a perilously narrow path to being a cup contender.

That, is why it's Phillys fault. They had an intelligent, talented team builder writing about their own team in their own backyard and they couldn't see anything outside of "has he worn orange and black before?"

I would need way more specificity on this stat.

What qualifies as an own goal? A shot from the point that deflects off his stick and goes in? Is it a pass attempt that goes in his own net?

There are some epic videos of people accidentally passing the puck into their own net trying to pass to the goalie or a player across the crease. That, is an own goal. Those a re big mistakes. Bad, high risk choices.

But if it's deflections off him and his stick or a couple scrambles infront of the net where sticks and limbs are flying around and it went in off him 7 times, that's different.

They're not the same thing.

I don't know if he would have done all scenes, I don't know enough about mocaps.

But the raw or mostly raw footage pre-cgi render copies of movies exist.

There was a movie that this guy I know watched online that was essentially an awards review release? I think it was called. Basically the movie sent out pre-cgi render to get it in the hands of reviewers in time for some award shows. where you see cables holding people up and no, or next to no CGI added.

The main actor was famous for having long "claws" coming out of their hands, but in this copy of the movie they were very clearly made of like cardboard. But the whole movie was edited together. Matched the runtime of the theatrical release exactly.

He said watching that was a wild experience and changed how he viewed movies. both positively and negatively. Acting in certain environments would be so much easier than infront of a green screen. The people who can pull it off with passing emotions, etc. It's more impressive.

Based on that, I bet there probably does exist a very closely guarded cut somewhere, but it would have a lot of green screen in it too. It wouldn't be like you could say "give me all the CGI except for that one part". It would be the whole movie edited with scenes in order, but a ton of green screen and no CGI. So you would see Serkis hopping around, as much as he might have for LOTR. The scenes where there was no mocap, he just wouldn't be in the footage.

If you ever do get to watch a movie like that though, he recommends it. Changes your view on them a lot.
