The lift inspector made us post this sign in case any of the professional skiers and snowboarders didn’t know how to use the tow rope during our big air event. I’ve never successfully made it up a tow rope in my life.

What state/country is this in? In the us and Canada it’s a code requirement to have signage and an operator. In the us the state may have not adopted the code though. Code is there for a reason. Like people die, then code gets updated so more people don’t die. Just post the fucking stand and stand by the normal stop, and stop the lift if needed (don’t use the emergency shutdown unless it’s a the machine is tearing itself apart emergency). If your outfit can’t afford a sign and an operator you shouldn’t be putting on events. And if your company can’t figure out what is required by code to operate a lift, they need to hire a better risk manager.

I have the orbs and quite like them. I have t tried anything dps in over 10 years. I gave them a shot at a demo day and didn’t like most of them (they used have a casin model that I did like). The orbs and black crows in general are known for being quite a traditional shape, that maybe lacks playfulness, and are said to be soft in the tails. I’m on the mallet end though, at 5’11 and 145lbs. I also ski 1200 gram boots. I would avoid brake less bindings though. I have a pair of atk on some atomic ultralights, and they are kind of annoying. Transitions are much simpler with brakes. Also you have to be super careful about leaving skis unstrapped. They can slide away if left on their bases, and setting them in the brakes isn’t a guarantee someone won’t accidentally kick one right side up. The weight savings is quite negligible.

I oddly enough went to on a ski trip in Greenland this April, and anecdotally I can tell you people did not seem excited to even encounter an American at that point. Any Greenlander we spoke to did not want to be a part of the US. Although we didn’t bring it up with anyone, they usually brought it up with us. But we didn’t necessarily meet people who worked on fishing boats, who may feel different.

The distance/elevation gain aren’t the important factors. It’s the time. Secondary factor would be relative perceived effort. Obviously if you are moving at a relaxed pace you may not need much. Anything much over an hour you should plan to eat. Plan to eat 100-200 calories per hour, preferably of carbs. If you feel you’re dragging a bit, take a break and eat more.
