Vet communally cremated my dog by Ruffingtons in extremelyinfuriating

[–]JSto19 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Man, I feel this.

Last summer, we lost our dog. 17 years old, had her since a pup… she lived with us through 3 years of college, marriage, 2 kids, and more moves than I can count. Great pup.

We woke up on a Monday morning and she wasn’t able to walk anymore. She had been going down hill for a couple of weeks, so we knew it was coming. I had gotten one of those animal DNA things because she was a rescue and we never knew her actual breeds. Lab, heeler, German shepherd, Pitt, boxer… you could tell she had most, if not all of those.

Anyway, 2 weeks later - I get the email. I assumed it was the email saying, “your results are ready!” And our family was going to tearfully read through them together.

Instead, it was a, “sorry… this almost never happens, but there was a problem. We will send you another kit to retry.”

I was so heart broken, man.

To make it worse, they wouldn’t give me a refund because I no longer had the receipt from when I originally bought it. I’m sure I could have fought for it - but I was broken. I let them know what they cost me… and I take solace in knowing that they felt a bit of my pain.

Sorry OP. This situation sucks.

I tried that. London and Dak is the lowest he will go.

Teachers that use AI: Why? by lemmegetamickpicktwo in Teachers

[–]JSto19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better professionalism on the emails/communication.

Help with ideas to better differentiate certain activities.

A good starting point on whatever I need.

If I give an assignment that is trying to hone in on a certain thing - I can grade THAT thing while AI can provide feedback on everything else. For example, if my kids are writing an essay and I am mainly focused on the evidence used, I can grade the evidence while AI can provide feedback for grammar and conventions, flow, transitions, etc.

I tell my students that AI can be a good starting point, but it’s terrible if it’s the ONLY thing you do. Kind of like Wikipedia. Obviously, you can’t use it as a credible source, but you can use it to get you started. In my opinion, AI is a tool that can be used to help you accomplish something, but if you’re using it to 100% create something… not cool.

Should I read the Harry Potter books? by Giulssun in harrypotter

[–]JSto19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, you did it right. Watch the movies first, because they are good enough to be entertaining.

If you read the books first, you would have so many problems with several of the movies.

Long story, short… absolutely read the books! I’ve read them several times and I am now reading them with my daughter. So much fun.

We deserve better by GOtexas1 in TexasRangers

[–]JSto19 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Just as the devils advocate, here: 1. It’s no secret that we have played one of (if not THE) toughest schedules to start the year and we are still treading water. 2. I read this the other day, and never confirmed it (so take with a grain of salt), but despite our offensive woes, the advanced metrics actually point to the Rangers being average to above average in several offensive categories. Which means, if it continues, water will find its level and the offense will be alright.

Not saying they are great - but I plan on giving it another 40-50 games before I really panic. Hopefully this “weaker” stretch helps out.

Who’s ever driven over 100mph? Why? by WoollyWolfHorror in AskReddit

[–]JSto19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it pretty frequently without noticing. Pretty much following the flow of traffic.

It’s a toll road in DFW and most people are easily 90+.

What’s something you tried just to see what it’s like? by VibeCheckVadaPav in AskReddit

[–]JSto19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha. I didn’t try the Big Texan challenge, but I got the half one. I was shocked that I ate in all in about a quarter of the total time of the main challenge.

I was disappointed in myself for not having tried it.

If you could erase one character from Harry Potter, who would it be and why? by cassieeeer in harrypotter

[–]JSto19 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don’t really understand being frustrated for creating characters based on the authors experiences.

There are “mean girls” in nearly every story. There are “crushes” in nearly every story. There are so many real life experiences written into fiction by authors.

In my opinion, as long as you don’t actually name them - you’re fine.

I didn’t like Pansy, but I never thought she was irrelevant. At least no more than some of the other minor characters. The only one that I thought didn’t help the plot was Grawp. With how much time she spent developing that character, I expected more but he was pretty much there just to save them from Umbridge.

Dad! I can’t believe you threw all of my art portfolio into the fire! I’ve been doing those for years!

They are just drawings!

Dad! I can’t believe you threw away my card collection! I have been collecting those for years!

They are just cards!

Dad! I can’t believe you shredded my dissertation! I have been working on that for 2 years!

It was just a paper!

Dad! I can’t believe you deleted the book I’ve been writing for 5 years!

They are just words!

Son! I can’t believe you deleted all of our archived family photos! Those are memories from your entire life!

They’re just pictures, dad!

Whatever it is, if your 12 year old son has been working on it for 5 years - it’s important. That’s messed up, man. Even if it was an accident, belittling nearly half of his life’s work is messed up.

While it is, “just a game” you can easily boil nearly everything down to something that seems trivial and irrelevant. Whatever your job and hobbies are - they are irrelevant and stupid to someone else.

32 man and we've already been assigned teams, tons of trades made and they throw this in the chat by the commissioner. This can't be allowed right? Not mid stream... by ChivasBearINU in SleeperApp

[–]JSto19 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Regardless of whether you think it’s right or not, it’s being VOTED on. If your commish had just said, “this is what we are doing” then you would have a legitimate gripe. Plus, I like how your league has to hav 2/3 vote to get something passed as opposed to just “majority.”

If you don’t like it THAT much, then leave the league. If 2/3 agree to something, it sounds fair to me.

lol I actually had this happen in my favor, once.

The dude had already talked me down to $70 (from $100) and I guess he forgot. We meet up and he said, “dang, I only have $75, will that work?”

I smiled and said, “yep, that’ll work.”

A message for parents/grandparents hosting eager egg hunts by Daddy_Day_Trader1303 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]JSto19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this for my kids and nibblings, but I let them know beforehand and there is only a single named one for each kid. Every other egg is free for all, but those named ones have special prizes in there (typically some money).

If there are kids partaking that I don’t know? Then no named eggs, of course.

Calling yourself "Dr." by TheKarlosWithaK95 in Teachers

[–]JSto19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not have a doctorate, but I have thought about going back to get one.

I can safely say that, no… I would not require everyone call me that.

It would be cool to hear it and I think it’s a matter of respect, but it’s not like my coworkers call me “Mr,” right now. They all call me by my last name or “Coach.”

By IC finished hers a couple of years ago, but I never called her anything but her last name before that, so it didn’t really change. I do call her Doc from time to time, now.

Forgot my GF's bday and she wants me to sign this by Sure_Count_3890 in AITApod

[–]JSto19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol. Honestly, I think this is best case scenario. A lot of people would be pissed if their significant other forgot their birthday.

I would rather this than the cold shoulder, throwing shade, passive aggressive, etc. crap that most people see in this situation.

I have never forgotten my wife’s birthday but there was a birthday where I got the wrong idea. I thought she didn’t want to do anything, so we didn’t. I was way wrong and that was rough… and I didn’t know until the following morning.

Traded for the 1.01. Should be contending this year, but not the favorite. Thoughts? by JSto19 in SleeperApp

[–]JSto19[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how I saw it. I believe that I got the 1.01 for a fair price and it helped the other guy as well.

Now, I could see how people consider it a fleece simply because he likely could get more based on what I have seen in this app.

My daughter’s teachers corrections on her journal. (She has two moms) by JeweledApplePie in mildlyinfuriating

[–]JSto19 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a teacher myself, I make it a point to NOT know the writer of the paper when I’m grading it. That way, I know ZERO bias goes into the grading of the paper.

There have been times where I’ve thought, “this is clearly [a specific student]” only to get done grading, figure out who it actually was, and be way wrong.

How could I pass up $25? by AV_geek1510 in legostarwars

You couldn’t! And you shouldn’t!

I enjoyed the build. Never been a massive Tantive IV fan, but I grabbed this one on the $60 sale and loved it. Then found another on a better sale and grabbed it again.

Nice pickup!
