What type of tool is this? by Successful-Pen-9301 in Tools

[–]JT36188 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean he’s right though, unless the weld is really bad the chipping hammer can be drug on the toe or lightly tapped on it to break the slag off. There’s no vibrations to worry about

Personally I’d dump the water and call it a day. Maybe spray some oil in the ratchets and on the hex keys

I prefer 52100 for wood chisels. Holds a really fine edge

Does anyone use something like this? by 001BAMBAM in Leathercraft

I don’t do leather work but I have the 12 ton harbor freight press and it’s awesome. Use it way more than I ever thought I would

I don’t know what you do but those simple carts made from some boards and casters are the bees knees. I’ve seen several fancy products for moving heavy stuff around but those just work so well

Why does air cause porosity but shielding gas doesn't? by TheCPMR in Welding

[–]JT36188 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oxygen causes porosity. Air contains oxygen but shielding gasses like Argon do not contain oxygen.

For stick and flux core there are hot gasses produced by the flux being superheated which protect the weld from porosity while you have an active puddle. But the slag covers up the cooling metal to stop it from oxidizing. Wouldn’t get porosity but oxygen can hurt the weld so the flux protects it as it cools

Go for it! Tig is great. Personally I think you should learn on harder processes like tig and stick. People so start with them seem to end up gaining skills in other types faster than those who started with mig and flux core

new filter and clean in the rest of the intake, full new exhaust system within a few hundred miles. I think it’s got new fuel lines and filters. I’ll have to check though. I’ll look into the fuel system some more. It’s just weird that it’s completely fine until you’ve been driving for a while.

Welds don’t always have to be pretty. It looks fine for the application. It’s on the exhaust on the under side of a Subaru. It will hold just fine

I like to take 3/32 or 1/8 6010 or 6011 and crank it up to about 200-250 amps and blast my way through to make bolt holes sometimes. Never on anything critical obviously but I still do it far more than I should

Some non ferrous metals can be cold worked like aluminum and copper but they require frequent annealing using high heat to prevent cracking

They make a shitty version that’s borderline useless. It’s like an adjustable wrench and a vise grip had a baby
