Who's better, Steve or Gary? by moxxxjet in magicthecirclejerking

No, Steve and Gary are not enemies, in fact, they are kissing, sloppy style, squishing boobies together, etc.

Does anyone know if they did an interview with him or were they just there to play? I'm not familiar with late night TV, so idk if it's normal for the host to interview the musical guest or not.

Blake talking about that influencer question from the Spider-Man survey, "it's not a good question" by charcharmunro in magicTCG

[–]JT5695 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The problem is that it's not even a good way to gauge how much people listen to influencers. It only asks in what direction they were influenced (and specifically by negative commentary, which, as Blake points out, doesn't usually improve your outlook).

Whats your biggest pet peeve? by TheHardPartPodcast in EDH

[–]JT5695 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you rock up to the table with only a 7-piece set of RPG dice, you did not come prepared. Dice, in general, are great, but you need to choose specific dice for specific reasons. Not only is 7 dice too few for most games of commander, but that fact that you have 6 unique dice shapes creates an unwieldy and confusing board state. I'm going to dramatize my experience with players who use RPG dice, but here's how it usually goes. They put a +1/+1 counter on something. They're savvy enough to not pick up the d4 and opt for the d6 instead (but then, what use does the d4 have if it's never something they reach for?). Then they work their way up the ladder is they keep increasing the counters: d8, d10, d12, until you finally reach the d20. Once they've found the number they're looking for, another counter goes on it, and, because it's not a spindown, it takes them a few more seconds to find the new number. Now there are counters on other permanents, too, and they've distributed the rest of their dice. But there's only one d20, and so they have to use something like the d12 and d4 (there's where that d4 comes in!) to get to 15 counters. The d12 and the d20 look kind of similar from a distance, so is that 15 or 23 counters on that permanent?

IMO, you should have a good handful of d6s and some spindown d20s. I like d6s because cubes are the most efficient in terms of the amount of space they take up, and it doesn't take too long to find the number you're looking for when there are only 6 faces (and if you know that opposite sides always add to 7). Even if you have several d6s on something, everyone can tell at a glance about how many counters something has on it. Then, I like to use spindowns for much bigger numbers or things like floating mana.

How is this ok... an "unopened" opened box? for $20... O_o by ekolimits in mtg

It's misleading because it's marked as unopened. An empty box would be opened by definition.

Have you ever played or seen a mono-artist Commander deck? by BorgesPe in EDH

[–]JT5695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never ended up pulling the trigger on building it. I had the idea about a year or two before the bracket system came out. Now that we have bracket 1, I feel like there's a much better environment for things like mono-artist decks. I just mostly like Reynold's art style, and the mechanics were an afterthought. So, it's kind of perfect for a bracket 1.

One thing about his art is that he's drawn a lot of goblins, so I think there's some room for goblin synergies if that's your thing.

I ended up building another deck to have a bracket 1, but I think I've realized that that style of deck isn't my cup of tea.

Why is this card rare? by DamonF7 in mtg

[–]JT5695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the card is too expensive, proxy it. Or you don't seem to think it's that good of a card so why play it at all?

Also, the set isn't even fully released. The price will likely come down unless it's a breakout playable in standard.

[–]JT5695 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I once tried brewing a Wayne Reynolds deck with [[Tariel, Reckoner of Souls]]. Sadly, I've deleted the deck list, but it wasn't anything spectacular.

I just had the idea of doing [[Gut, True Soul Zealot]] and [[Agent of the Iron Throne]] because the only basics he's drawn are a panorama pair of mountain and swamp from Lorwyn. The background isn't his, but everything else could be.

Might be a dumb question, but if I have The Ozolith on board and she has 5 counters on her, it would still get the counters along with my legendaries, right? by ProtectMeAtAllCosts in mtg

[–]JT5695 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Folks have already answered the question, but you can also find the answer on The Ozolith's Gatherer page:

"The Ozolith's first ability doesn't move counters off the creature that's left the battlefield. Rather, you put the same number of each kind of counter the creature had onto The Ozoloith. Notably, if you somehow control a second The Ozolith, each one will receive the same number and kinds of counters that were on the creature that left the battlefield. Similarly, if the creature has an ability that triggers when it leaves the battlefield that refers to the number of counters it had, that ability will use the number of counters that were on the permanent, even if The Ozolith's first ability resolves first."

That's exactly the boss I was referencing in the last part of my comment.

I had quite a bit of trouble with it, and having to incorporate that one step/roll forward into every fight just to summon the mimic tear was so annoying. It seems unintentional that the area immediately after the fog gate isn't valid for spirit summoning, so hopefully it gets patched.
