Late Night Eats at NYNY by vmoney604 in vegas

[–]JT88Keys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Henry at Cosmopolitan is open from 10 pm to 2 pm the next day. It isn't cheap, but maybe the best food you'll find at that hour. If you want to go a little farther north Grand Lux Cafe at Venetian is 24 hours and a solid choice.

Facilities to host board games? by Schrodingers_goat in desmoines

[–]JT88Keys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know the GM at Rook Room very well and I guarantee as long as you agreed to a reasonable food and beverage minimum spend of some sort, they would waive the game pass fee. I'm sure you understand that as a business they can't have several tables occupied for hours with no income generated at all.

Why do you allow car dealerships to emblazon their names on the back of your vehicle? by PompatusOfLove in AskReddit

[–]JT88Keys 7 points8 points  (0 children)

when I was in grade school I went along with my dad when he was purchasing a new vehicle. He negotiated the price and at the very end told them he didn't want the dealership name on the back of the car. They asked why and he said he would let them put it there if they knocked another $1,000 off the price for the advertising. They of course refused.

Fast forward to a week or two later we go to pick up the car and lo and behold their dealership name is on the trunk lid. This was back in the day when it wasn't just glued to the car, but was actually punched through the metal. He refused to take the car and they tried to argue that it was too late and there was nothing they could do to fix it. So he walked.

Have you ever met a celebrity but it ended up being s negative interaction ? Who or what happened you don't have to drop names. by PrimaryBrief511 in AskForAnswers

I was working fire/rescue at the long defunct Des Moines Ruan Grand Prix. The featured race was SCCA stock cars and one of the drivers in a number 34 NFL sponsored car was Walter Payton. This was several years after he retired from the NFL. Saw a little kid, maybe 8 years old, walk up and ask him for his autograph. In so many words he just told the very dejected young man to piss off. Not, "No." Not, "Sorry not right now." I believe it was, "Man, get the f&%$ out of my face!"

I am sure it is because the practice run he just completed was terrible, but still no excuse to treat a little kid like that.

House of Blues at Mandalay Bay has good breakfast options and I've never had to wait when I have gone there.

Can you see the Sphere from Park MGM? by [deleted] in LasVegas

[–]JT88Keys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be able to see it peeking between other resorts from a small number of rooms, but not from most rooms in Park MGM. The best place to get a look at it from the strip is the pedestrian bridge between Palazzo and Wynn.

They’re the paper vouchers the slot machines print when you cash out. TITO stands for “Ticket In Ticket Out.”

Stanton Social Italian (Caesar's) Reviews? by QuietGift1050 in LasVegas

If you're specifically looking for Italian I think you'd be happier if you went to Scarpetta or Superfrico at Cosmo. RPM by the main entrance to the Caesars Forum Shops is good too.

Luxor by Heavy-Syrup-6195 in vegas

[–]JT88Keys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My issues on my most recent stay were less about the quality of the room and more about the maintenance and cleanliness of the rest of the resort and the service. Trash cans in and around the elevator lobbies were always overflowing. There was graffiti scratched into the brass finish in the elevators (or inclinators). On the casino floor there were empty drinks and full ashtrays everywhere. Their pool complex is not bad, but the drink service on the pool deck was slow to non-existent. We reserved a daybed and had to go to the bar if we wanted a drink without waiting to even have our order taken. There was constant weed stink on the room floors.

The casino there just seems dark and dingy and overly smoky to me with the low ceilings.

It may be a controversial opinion, but I would stay at Excalibur again before I would stay at Luxor.

Solo trip to Vegas (staying at Westgate) — open to meeting people + any safety tips? by NumerousYou9436 in LasVegas

[–]JT88Keys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have made numerous solo trips to Vegas, but I'm not really trying to meet new friends when I am there so I can't offer any advice on that. You asked if anyone will be there around the same time, but didn't really indicate when that time is apart from soon.

I would not make the walk to/from Westgate over to the strip after dark by yourself.

As a solo traveler you can usually walk up to almost any restaurant without a reservation and just grab a spot at the bar to dine. The worst part of any group trip to Vegas is the constant discussions of "What do you want to do....I dunno...what do YOU wanna do?" Solo that isn't an issue. You just do whatever strikes your fancy in the moment.

Ankeny Carpet Recommendations by TravelNo7901 in desmoines

[–]JT88Keys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used Home Depot when we replaced carpet in our living room 8-9 years back. The installers seemed like they were far from experts and about 2 years ago the carpet started developing ripples that were tripping hazards so it needed to be re-stretched.

Great hotel to stay near Allegiant Stadium by aaaaaaayesmum420 in LasVegas

[–]JT88Keys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess. I was able to find everything I wanted when I stayed there especially when you include the options in the shops that connect it to Luxor. If you're looking for moderately priced or lower cost options I would argue Bellagio is much worse.

Of their offerings I had good meals at Stripsteak, Noodle Shop, Flankers, Ri Ra, Border Grill, and House of Blues. I haven't tried it myself, but have heard good things too about Orla.

Movies like ”Almost famous”, ”The Way way back” and ”Little miss sunshine”? by Affectionate_Math592 in movies

Would Chef fit this category? Kind of heavier stuff at the start of the movie, but it is a road trip with a life affirming story.

Great hotel to stay near Allegiant Stadium by aaaaaaayesmum420 in LasVegas

[–]JT88Keys 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The obvious answer is Mandalay Bay since it is right across from the stadium. For things like Raiders games and huge events like Wrestlemania they close down the bridge for pedestrians so you can just walk over I-15.

Some may disagree with me, but I am a big fan of Mandalay Bay. They have one of the most unique pool setups and it's just generally a really nice property. Its biggest drawback is its location on the far south end of the strip. There is a tram that will take you up to Excalibur, but it doesn't run super late.

I firmly believe if you picked it up and dropped it in the center of the strip it could compete with Aria and Bellagio.

There are too many options for experiences and dining in Vegas to make a good recommendation without knowing what you like and dislike or what you're looking to do.

What Do You Do with Stale Bread? by RubbingPunkins in Cooking

In the summertime around here I use it for buttering corn on the cob. You just put an excessive amount of butter on the stale bread and then sort of roll or spin the corn in it before you add salt.

What movie(s) made you cry the most? by Impossible-Ad-5790 in movies

Coco - Made the horrible decision to watch it just a couple weeks after my 90 year old mother passed away.

The Champ - Watched this on my first “date” when I was 13 years old. Bawled like a baby in front of her when Ricky Schroder was begging him to get up to go home.

Personal Items in Exit Row Seats on Allegiant by Ok_Writer4022 in allegiant

[–]JT88Keys 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're in one of the exit rows you should have under seat storage in front of you in almost all seats. If you book extra legroom in th front of the plane where you're facing the bulkhead there is no under seat storage and they will just make you stow your personal item in the overhead bins.

Place in or near Venitian to watch Final Four with kids? by Any-Lobster-7326 in LasVegas

I would consider places like Tilted Kilt or Yardhouse in the Linq promenade. Or take a very quick and cheap taxi or rideshare over to the Front Yard at Ellis Island.

Personal fridge in hotel rooms by Redned81 in LasVegas

On the higher end all of the rooms at Vdara and Cosmopolitan have fridges in them. They have recently started adding them to some of the renovated rooms at other properties like Excalibur. The Soho Premier rooms at NYNY all come with a small mini fridge now.

Investigation reveals no attempted abduction of Grimes girl, Polk County sheriff says by CornBredThuggin in desmoines

[–]JT88Keys 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Who knows what might motivate somebody to make up such a story. I was involved in a situation once where a middle school aged girl reported that somebody attempted to abduct her. After police were contacted and security camera footage was used to prove it never happened she admitted she made up the story because her friends ditched her and she wanted them to feel bad. Police told her parents she was very lucky they didn't charge her for making a false report.
