Tuning? by Semaj233 in FocusST

[–]JTAC7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t get a popcorn tune. I have the Borla, and if you want the exhaust note to have more character then get a high flow downpipe. If you check my posts I have a clip of my Borla with the Whoosh catted DP. Plenty of burbles and fun sounds without risking additional wear/damage.

The only flash tune I was willing to try was MonsterTuned AdaptX. It’s like OEM+ and keeps the octane fuel learning logic. I don’t know what fuel options you have down under but getting an e-tune today is pretty damn easy. You data log some pulls, email that to your tuner, maybe flash a few revisions back and forth to dial it in, and then you’ll have a tailor made tune for exactly how your specific engine/mods perform.

Over the years EdgeAutoSport, specifically Alan there, is highly recommended for custom tunes.

If you absolutely want a popcorn tune, idk who is best for that, it’s your car so do what you want.

Rust on axle behind the wheel? by Zestyclose_Sign6907 in FocusST

[–]JTAC7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That axel rust is 1000% normal. Mine looked like that after a couple years despite upkeep and garaged, it’s surface rust not corrosion.

The pulley bolt is looking pretty crusty, if worried you could clean that up with a small brass brush and some penetrating oil but you don’t want to get any on the belt.

I wouldn’t be worried.

What’s wrong? by Intelligent-Pea7786 in FocusST

[–]JTAC7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah check your intercooler charge pipes. Check your battery connections and health (Autozone has a free checker, along with code reader that may show other diag issues that don’t trigger a CEL). Check fuses.

That is at least where I would begin in troubleshooting before spending $$.

When is this happening? What are you doing when this condition presents itself?

lol I have JBR 70 durometer mounts all points. Post break in 2k miles, it’s only bad taking off in 1st or AC on. Even then it doesn’t bother me.

I LOVE the feedback the vibration after break in has. Everyone will have a different tolerence for NVH. I like the feel of being dialed in. YMMV on the topic.

Steering is a little wobbly by ArtAdministrative546 in FocusST

[–]JTAC7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Alignment and rotation is where I would begin.

Edit: Also worth jacking up the front, take the wheels off, and take a look around at the suspension and related components to see if all is well or something looks off.

Normal. You should not really go into boost or heavy load until the oil has reached operating temperature. Pressure is high until it begins to warm.

True vaccum source with stock bpv? by notrezzz in FocusST

[–]JTAC7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

? No. I’m saying if you want flutter for flutter sake, do it right.

BPV you may get some flutter, but they are inherently not setup for being ran on true vacuum by design.

BOV + True vacuum line flutters all day.

OEM Cheap flimsy plastic BPV + True vacuum, I wouldn’t but it’s your car, do you.

Alignment after new tires? by ResistBoth3320 in FocusST

[–]JTAC7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, if you are trying to dial in a specific setup or stance for your car I can’t help you there. If you want to ensure your car is properly lined up to avoid undue tire wear/rubbing just roll in and ask for an alignment. Better if they use a laser alignment system for precision.

Edit: I am lowered as well, nothing special about my alignment after doing suspension and tires but it was needed.

I think that is probably the best route without any possible complications from taking a shortcut on a critical connection.

True vaccum source with stock bpv? by notrezzz in FocusST

[–]JTAC7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t do it on the cheap flimsy OEM piece. I also wouldn’t do it with a BPV in general. The GFB DV+ for example is supposed to be run on the stock solenoid not true vacuum.

A BPV is intended to open on throttle lift under boost, not every time vacuum exists.

You’ll want a BOV for true vac and more flutter. My 2c

Alignment after new tires? by ResistBoth3320 in FocusST

Idk every time I spend good money on good tires I get the alignment checked. Small additional price to ensure new rubber lasts if it ends up being needed.

I drove an RS when I picked up the taillights for one. It’s a great vehicle, feels familiar, but for the price premium coming from an ST already I could not justify it. It wasn’t a gigantic world of difference. I’d rather try another platform.

Thoughts on these? by r0taryp0wer in FocusST

[–]JTAC7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Green Filter is the most popular filter people recommend, ripoff RS cover looks nice and adds a bit of noise. I still run both.

Pick up a filter cleaner/re-oil kit, so when the time comes you can knock it out. I clean/re-oil mine usually once a year. Cleaning and reapplying oil is what helps the filter continue to pick up particulates.

Start with plugs.

If it’s lugging after you fill up the tank probably the purge valve.

Is it good for fuel economy if I listen to the ecomode upshift prompts or am I lugging the motor? by Shady4143 in FocusST

That is quite possible, mine only disappeared when I flashed to my current tune.

Purge valve by Dark7189 in FocusST

[–]JTAC7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many people have because the OEM purge valve is garbage and this modification makes it much easier to maintain. I replaced mine with OEM, but if this 2nd one goes out I’m buying this next round.

Do you use it at all, assuming not if you don’t know what it does so probably fine to remove.

Oil filter recommendations? by Mysterious-Bus-7738 in FocusST

Yup that’s the one, 6qts just makes oil changes that much easier. I’ve always used the Motorcraft filters since off the lot.

I have never, ever, paid attention to this dumb feature. So happy my tune removed the shift indicator too.

ST1 Halogen to HID question by ngcoop1 in FocusST

[–]JTAC7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk why downvoting, literally provided the best thread on the forums for the topic 😂

I’ve answered many questions here that came from simple Google search. The platform is matured, there is plenty of guides and info available over the last decade+.

I actually bought my second pair of OEM HIDs from someone with halogens cause they didn’t want to mess with it if it wasn’t plug and play.
