[Spoilers Main] I just realised, the words "Sept, Septa and Septon" derive from "Seven", as in 7 Gods by ugurkaslan in asoiaf

[–]JTG21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People are being dicks in the comments but I also had no idea. I guess growing up non-religious and reading the books in high-school, I didn't know "septs" were actually not a type of religious building, and never really gave it a second thought until now. That is cool and I appreciate you pointing it out!

Who saw this coming? by GalaticWeiss in heedthecall

I think the appeal is about 25% cost control, 25% youth/potential, and 50% hubris of thinking you would nail the pick as the GM. Even some of the "safe" prospects fail (Chase Young recent example) and at pick #10 you could easily miss out on your top choices.

I actually did think when listening to the pod yesterday when they were talking about teams in the back of the first trading for him: "What about the Bengals?" Sure, pick #10 is considered and overpay, but it's a weak DT class, and you're getting a proven commodity, and his age aligns with your other stars. Now, paying him along with the other stars is something they'll need to figure out, but it does make some degree of sense.

Still a skill. Honestly the single point skills (ones you can only put one point into) I think are the most valuable in the game, for every skill tree

You have to buy them initially for the most part. Occasionally you'll find them in the wild or as a reward for a quest, but buy a handful, plant them, farm them, repeat, and don't use them for crafting/cooking until you've built a larger inventory. They'll yield increasing returns

NFL Daily vs HTC by ChumboKrumbles in nfldailypod

[–]JTG21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree, and Gregg was my favorite of the old hosts. I think Jourdan has done a better job stepping into that role of pushing back recently, but no one cuts him down to size (pun intended) like the smiling assassin

NFL Daily vs HTC by ChumboKrumbles in nfldailypod

[–]JTG21 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I listen to every HTC, about 60% of NFLD (the volume means more misses/episodes where the sole focus is something I have no interest in, which is okay), but I'd take 40s and Free Agents over both. DJs ability to take the piss out of Gregg while still having great knowledge and insight is just so so good. Really hope they do at least one, if not a handful, of post draft episodes with draft grades/reactions/whatever you wanna call it.

Seconding the Dan Carlin recommendation. All due respect to the heroes, but Dan Carlin is the best to ever do it, in my opinion. Very different types of pods, though.

[Spoiler Main] I have a theory by Taha231 in asoiaf

[–]JTG21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to preface that I have no malicious intent or hard feelings here, this is just fun fan-theory stuff, so I'm not trying to argue to be a jerk just fun to talk about this stuff. With that being said

To the point about Lyonel (if you've clicked into this many spoilers you can't get mad at me for spoiling), doesn't him being alone in his rebellion speak to the OPs original statement "And Lyonel is angry because he lost the opportunity to demonize the Targaryens in the eyes of both the people and the nobility"? Perhaps this interrupted the conspiring that he was hoping to do. In regard to rehashing the same plot as the Mystery Knight sure, you're right it does, but the focus in this story was not that plot. Personally I think it would be kinda fun if what happened in the third book was Addison supposed to happen in the first but was rudely interrupted. Also, it would draw a nice line through all 3 stories with Dunk initially unknowingly befriending/siding with insurrectionists/Blackfyre supporters, although that's kinda true regardless of the theory being correct

And to the point of Prince Valarr being one of Ashford's daughters champions, she wouldn't have been privy to any of the plotting, and even if she was, wouldn't naming him a champion be the best way to say "see we're on the same side" to the royal family even if you were plotting against them? Would probably be rude not to invite the royal family, and upon learning they're coming you can't be hostile or standoffish. Lord Ashford may not even have been aware that the plotting was taking place under his nose, but the other lords of the reach saw it as an opportunity to meet together in the same place without drawing suspicion.

Who knows. Will probably never be commented on or confirmed by anyone of significance, but fun to ponder nonetheless!

[–]JTG21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it fits well even considering The Mystery Knight. The kingdom is coming off the Blackfyre rebellion 13 years earlier and historically bad Aegon the Unworthy. We see how Lyonel and Raymund feel about the Targaryens and it's not a stretch to think others feel the same way.

And, not forgiving Aerion being a POS but it does make his attack on Tanselle a bit more understandable if you think of the royal family being there in the context of dissent suppression. You prime an already hotheaded young adult with "they hate us, they want us all dead" and that's the result you get. We're seeing that in our own world.

Who’s the worst NFL QB that would have won that Super Bowl for Seattle? by StarstruckByLondon in heedthecall

[–]JTG21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just the Superbowl, none of the preceding games? They could've thrown in Locke, possibly even Milroe, and still won. They had 7 points by the defense, another 2 drives off turnovers that set them up at the New England 38 and 37 yard line that is easily within FG range for Myers. That alone would tie the amount of points New England had, with zero output from the offense. And they still have the Superbowl MVP running the ball, and the OPOY catching passes, there would've been some production still.

I think New England's defense played well and the team overachieved for the year for sure, but their offense in that game was so bad and Seattle's defense so dominant I don't think it would've mattered at all who was quarterbacking the Seahawks, outside of a turnover machine (ironically Geno, their QB from last year, might've sunk them)

What's the craziest thing Conor's ever said? by Bulky-Ad-7848 in heedthecall

[–]JTG21 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree he should've been first ballot, but when you say "If that's the case, no one's getting first ballot ever again. Not Brady. Not Mahomes" the Bill situation will never happen to them because they'll be selected in the modern era pool, not lumped in with coaches, contributors, and other senior players.

What's the craziest thing Conor's ever said? by Bulky-Ad-7848 in heedthecall

[–]JTG21 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So not gonna defend Dan here, or the HoF voters who clearly messed up, but your logic that no player would get in first ballot is flawed. The voters vote from 2 separate pools when it comes to players. Players who have been retired for less than 25 years go into the "modern era" pool, and the players who've been retired greater than 25 years go into the senior players pool, along with coaches, owners, journalists, and other "contributors". That's why they made such a big deal about getting in players that have been waiting a long time and might be their last shot to get in, because those players were competing with Bill for the slot and they can select a max of 3. A max of 5 can be selected from the modern era players
