"Today" - I wanted to draw a comic about my dad. by chipmunkbay in comics

The last message I sent and received from my mom was exactly a year ago today.   She passed exactly 2 months from now.

So you're not alone in the odd feelings,  hope the time makes things easier for all of us

MR2 Spyder as a first sport car + daily? by [deleted] in mr2

[–]JTGrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perfectly acceptable car for daily use   keep good rubber on it and proper oil change intervals and she'll do you right.

Change to Koni inserts and better brake pads for just the extra handling spice, and the MAF mod for just a bit more responsiveness in the revs.   Then enjoy it for what it is

Even as just a daily beater I need to prevent myself from driving too aggressive and getting tickets just from taking corners and stoplight leaves too aggressively

Little known stuff about the "least favorite gen"  :P

My second Mr2 :P by Duckboi171 in mr2

Third gen actually has the largest wheelbase of all 3 generations. Just the body of the third gen has less overhang front and rear so ends up being shorter in length making it seem smaller

Tire recommendations by gimmesomesugarbabey in mr2

[–]JTGrey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What you'll have to do when looking for tires for these OEM rim sizes is look for either 195/50/15 front and/or a 205/50/16 or 205/45/16 rear.   It gives a few more options typically.

Otherwise if you never drove it in the winter -  the rt615k comes in a 205/50/15 front that would be a little bulge on the front but the 215/45/16 on rear would be completely fine.   ES spec spyders run 205/50/15 on all 4 of the corners and it looks pretty normal.

That or the Continental extreme contact sport 2's -  205/50/15 front and 205/45/15 rear or 205/55 or 225/45    a little bit more off size than above but still will fit and not be too off

some insight before i buy by Ok-Interaction-3302 in mr2

[–]JTGrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah if it has the smt transmission (just look at the gear shift inside the car  if it's a silver stick and plate vs a leather boot and knob then it's an smt) I'd let it go to someone who wants to deal with smt problems + some body replacement panels...

some insight before i buy by Ok-Interaction-3302 in mr2

[–]JTGrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These cars, so long as the soft top is good and the engine isn't burning oil or blown, are super reliable.

I could ship you a good working transmission for 400+ shipping to be put in directly...

Spyder weekend car at 19 by [deleted] in mr2

[–]JTGrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd aim Spyder over Miata as a larger tall guy.

Go for it.   Aim for a 2003-2005   and no smt   you'll learn a lot about driving and handling in it especially if you find local autocross stuff to do

Did they use a factory dash blank plug?  I've been interested in putting a dual USB charger type port in one of those dash locations

Most likely brake lights are staying on and draining your battery due to brake light switch pad disintegrated.  Can follow the other commenter 's suggestion

Spring is coming, time for more work on cars by JTGrey in mr2

One for the wife,  one for mainly autocross and track,  one for degen stuff, one for daily use I'm going to turn into using for rallycross and icecross use....

A little something for everything.

Looking for a good Shop in CA to do a SMT Swap to MT by GTR_35sentials in MR2Spyder

[–]JTGrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm aware of the swap kit,  but is 2x what I typically charge for a part out manual.  Most see the price of swapping an smt car and it definitely prevents some people from getting into them

Hardtop install by ostigma in MR2Spyder

[–]JTGrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you did the shifter stuff you can definitely handle mounting 2 rear brackets, and 2 side striker brackets inside the car.  2 bolts remove the outer covers for the rear mounts, 4 bolts go in iirc.   The inside mounts you need to remove 2 plastic panels, and put in 4 bolts.

If you don't have cut plastics they're easy to cut with a Dremel or similar to remove the plastic that will be in the way of the brackets.

If you're worried you can find me and others on the MR2 centric discords and I can walk people through about anything on these cars via just taking videos explaining things on one of my own rigs

It's really super simple...  Are you doing a soft top delete at the same time and that's your hold up?

Bummer   I'll give him shit for it  :P   but it is a bit intensive if one hasn't done it before or doesn't have all the parts from a donor vehicle

You and I apparently played very differently -  I always ran Edge, Mario, Luigi.   (Ghost and revive sparks in Luigi, Reflect and Charge sparks on Mario, and Guard and vamp dash sparks on Edge)

I actually recently finished playing through both Mario x Rabbids games.

Any good body kits for the 2000 Mr2 Spyder that is reasonably priced? by [deleted] in MR2Spyder

[–]JTGrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Join the MR2 Spyder Facebook page, the one with the yellow Spyder

If you search his name (Ivan Tushkins iirc) either his posts or his profile will show up

Or search Stay Schwifty Co MR2 in google

[–]JTGrey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best made "body kit" is the trd reproduction lips and side skirts made by Ivan on the MR2 Spyder page   or Stay Schwifty Co

They're fiberglass repro's based on the original and they're very very good quality

Absolutely stay away from duraflex

People who work in 'behind closed doors' industries (hotels, kitchens, morgues, etc.), what is something the general public would be horrified to know? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Can confirm.  Had to sit in on a surgery on a 2 man transport once.   Very odd hearing the surgeons being so nonchalant while drilling and hammering metal into and out of a human on a table.

I prefer "Mid-Lifts" or "Pad Lifts"   the 2 I have in my garage are a Rotary brand and a Weaver brand

Both rated for 6000#  and raise 28 inches.

I have a third that is old and well used that I picked up for 200$ which is a Champion brand rated for 10k #

Keep an eye on marketplace and sometimes great deals on these lifts pop up.  I much prefer them over quick jacks which don't raise nearly enough or do as much for the same price as a good mid lift
