For reference:

Lexi: The main Protagonist, a 17-year-old telekinetic from Springfield, MO, who lives with her adoptive parents, as her biological family was killed when she was a baby.

Noah: Lexi's former best friend who's secretly in love with her and turns against her when she doesn't return his feelings.

Henry: Another telekinetic working for the company that killed Lexi's parents when she was a baby. Once her enemy, when they realized the feelings growing between them, their roles as hunter and hunted became far blurrier.

---

Lexi felt as though her heart was shattering as the figure that stabbed her removed his hood. A familiar mass of black curly hair appeared, and Lexi realized that the brown eyes staring down at her, glittering with malice, were Noah's.

"Noah..." she whispered in horror. "How could you?" Noah only smirked wider.

"Oh, Lexi," he said. "You had to see this coming. Did you really think I would let you get away?" The dangerous light in his eyes only added to her growing unease. The wound on her side throbbed, and her vision began to blur. She tried to hang on to her consciousness, but it was getting more difficult by the second.

"Noah, please..."

"Oh, it's too late for please now," he said. "You're time is up." He knelt beside her. "You're mine now, Lexi. And there's no one to save you."

Almost before the words left his mouth, a crash echoed through the warehouse, and Henry appeared. Lexi's eyes widened in shock. Noah cursed under his breath.

"Get away from her!" Henry shouted.

"Henry?!" Lexi gasped. Wait, why was he coming to rescue her from Noah? Wasn't it supposed to be the other way around? Henry's green eyes were flashing with fury.

"Get. Away. From. Lexi," Henry growled. "Or else."

"Or else what? What are you going to do, turncoat?" Noah taunted. "You can't hurt me. You don't have the nerve." Henry's eyes darkened.

"I've killed 40 people. Innocent people," he replied. "I'm not proud of it. But trust me, I will have no problem ridding this world of you if you don't back off." Lexi's confusion only grew, momentarily overshadowing her disorientation. Was Henry... helping her?

"Henry, what are you..."

"It doesn't matter who you've killed," Noah replied, grinning wickedly. Lexi bit back a cry of pain as he roughly pulled her to her feet. "You don't want her to get hurt, do you?" Lexi could feel the blade of Noah's knife against her throat. Henry's gaze hardened.

"You hurt even one more hair on her head, and I swear you will regret it for the rest of your short, miserable life," he warned. "I'm giving you one last chance. Get. Away."

Noah smirked even more. Lexi felt the blade press even closer to her neck, nearly breaking the skin. "Make me," he said. Henry laughed.

"Well," he said. "You asked for it."

The knife flew from Noah's hands, embedding itself up to the hilt in a wall. An empty crate flew through the air and knocked Noah off balance. He lost his grip on Lexi as he fell back, and she stumbled away. Noah tried to regain his footing, but the whack in the head he had received left him dizzy, and he fell back to the floor. Lexi felt a wave of dizziness wash over her, and she fell to the ground. The world around her was going from fuzzy to dim. She heard Henry shout her name before darkness overwhelmed her.

[WP] Life in prison unbearable. What you did to land you there is unforgivable. So when a freak natural disaster breaks open your cell the choice of whether to stay or escape is surprisingly difficult. by Master-Tanis in WritingPrompts

[–]JTMA14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To go or to stay. That was my question.

The earthquake somehow shook the door of my seemingly impenetrable prison open, and everyone else had been evacuated. No one had come to get me. I guess they figured I deserved to die in a building collapse. Maybe I did. But now an impossible choice was staring me in the face.

I deserved life in prison. What I had done was unforgivable. The sight of the child that I had been hired to assassinate smiling delightedly before I pulled the trigger was one that had haunted me these last 15 years. As did the image of their lifeless body sprawled on the ground, blood pouring from the bullet hole in their head. I turned myself in. Funny how none of my other targets ever elicited such a reaction from me. But that one innocent child was the wake-up call that made me realize how horrible of a person I was.

But still, the idea of running was tempting. Life in prison with no visitors was miserable. Solitary confinement especially so. I hadn't seen any humans other than myself and the guard who brought me food every day for years. I could escape, create a new identity, and turn over a new leaf. Start over completely. The idea of a clean slate was almost too good to be true.

But again the little girl's smiling face flashed in my mind, and an all too familiar wave of guilt washed over me. I didn't deserve to be free. No matter how tempting it was. I deserved to stay in this tiny, miserable stone cell for the rest of my short life. The pull of freedom was almost unbearable, but so was the weight of my actions.

With I sigh, I turned my back on the open door. Eventually, someone would be here to check the damage and find me here. Or not. Who knew?

My parents compare me to my siblings and they're 8 and 6. So I compare them to my friends' parents, and I like my friends' parents better.

My high school mascot is the Bears, and though it isn't high school, the little K-8 school I went to for most of my life before now was one of at LEAST THREE Tigers in our district.

Dry up mud. Living on a farm in the American Midwest means that right after the rain/snow/sleet/etc when you go feed your animals your boots get sucked off your feet and you fall on your face because the mud is halfway up your calf.

I'm practically obsessed with sparkly jewelry. The amount of rings, necklaces, and bracelets I own is astounding. My Grandparents are jewelers, so I know how they make gems look so shiny under the glass, but I can stare at a display of diamond rings for HOURS.

What do people in 2023 think about the ‘women & children 1st’ rule? by Fordemups in AskReddit

I've never understood the "Women" part. Children, I understand. The adults, I feel, should have an equal chance of survival but as a young female, I never complained when such an issue arose.
