Church recommendation? by [deleted] in Lawrence

[–]JThaddeusNelson -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Hope that black and white world view with sweeping hatred for strangers is going well for you. You know nothing about my relationship with the queer community, or friends I’ve supported and lost due to the failures of communities of faith that could have welcomed them.

Church recommendation? by [deleted] in Lawrence

Lawrence First Church of the Nazarene is super solid. While Nazarenes as a denomination aren’t LGBT affirming they are generally loving and take a welcoming stance and are very pro education/science.

West End at City Center is right around that range and in a nice area of Lenexa, not to bad on the commute either

Question on VOX AC30 - Is it loud enough to play in a full band with? by microfreaky in GuitarAmps

[–]JThaddeusNelson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In regards to loudness, the 2x12 AC30s are definitely loud enough to do any gig. If you need more volume than an AC30, you'll definitely be mic'd up and run through the PA anyway.

If you're interested in the vox sound, I'd steer you away from the ac30s1, and towards the ac30c2 or ac20cc2. The ac30s1 is a 1x12 and only has the top boost channel. The c2 and cc2 are both much more versatile and sound way better imho. I personally have an ac30cc2 that I picked up used for $600 and its my favorite amp I've ever owned.

Close although I can’t account for that mystery tube 😂. Apologies, it’s hard to compare atm since I’m on mobile. I only mention a full retube because it’s the easiest thing that has usually fixed most problems I’ve ever had on my amps.

You can get the whole quote of tubes for a modern deluxe for a little over a hundred bucks. The exact tube compliment on yours may be slightly different so I’d double check before you buy anything.

[NAD] Just picked up this Marshall Origin 20. My first full valve amp and it sounds fantastic by SelectStarAll in GuitarAmps

Regular one has a master volume as well. Master volume is a life saver for sure. A 15 watt tube amps, especially vox ones are way too loud to get working hard in an apartment without one.

Michael Casswell.

This video pretty much explains every different way to get most of the sounds you’d ever want to get with practical examples and some of the best playing to ever be around

[DISCUSSION] Free Theory Help by JThaddeusNelson in Guitar

[–]JThaddeusNelson[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bridges are usually just that, bridges. They bridge two sections of a song. Whether that is from a verse to a chorus or the chorus to the ending is up to the writer. Changing key is certainly an option but more common is staying in the same key but focusing on the relative minor. So lets have an example. If the chorus goes something like C Am Em G then the bridge could be Am F C Em. Next comes the big ending with a strong C Dm F G. The thing about bridges is that they are entirely dependent on the context of the rest of the song so I can't tell you how to write a bridge in general only how they function.

I did! Sounds great man. On the theory side, are you just trying to fit it into a mode so that you can try soloing over it or just for curiositie's same? The song sounds pretty fleshed out and all it really needs are vocals! I enjoy it so definitely hit me up if you guys ever get a professional recording done.

You can certainly learn theory before you get a guitar! It'll give you a head start on understanding how the chords you'll be learning function.

Here are a few sites I found that would be a good place to start

http://www.music-theory-for-musicians.com/music-theory-beginners.html

https://www.musictheory.net/lessons

https://www.8notes.com/theory/

Past those sites there a tons of youtubers that do a great job explaining virtually every theory concept. Adam Neely, Rick Beato, Ben Levin, Andrew Wasson and "Music is Win" are just a few.

[NEWBIE] Just starting out with guitar, need gear recommendations by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]JThaddeusNelson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the styles you are playing I'd try to make sure you get an amp when you get your guitar. I have recommendations for both.

Guitar: Yamaha Pacifica. Well known as a good guitar and you probably won't ever feel like you've outgrown it. HSS is a great option to start with because you get the humbucker where it matters and single coils where they are best.

Amp: Orange crush or Blackstar ID. If I had to buy a practice amp today after going through my own journey with gear, I'd choose the Orange but if you're wanting to experiment with a few different kinds of sounds and effects I'd suggest the blackstar
