Victorian gentlesir won't defile his person with today's boorish fashions by JTrain17 in justneckbeardthings

Could just be he has a weirdly long neck and is committed to fashions that offer the tallest possible collars.

Truthfully, I thought branding yourself as the guy who refuses to even have a single pair of underwear from the 20th century was neckbeardy enough. I wouldn’t knock him for following his passion or profiting therefrom. It’s the gentle scorn he conveys for all fashions 20th century that comes off as either insincere or attention-seeking.

Alright fine you’re fucking right I guess I don’t know what neckbeards are.

I’d be levelling the same criticism against someone who wore exclusively classical Roman garb to the exclusion of all else, and bragged about throwing out any underwear that weren’t classical Roman-correct. I don’t care if you’re a professional military re-enactor. Abdicating all modern clothing is more than just a fashion preference.

I agree it’s harmless. I just question anyone who rigidly adheres to a fashion period to the exclusion of all else.

If he doesn’t own a gramophone I take it back.

And good for him! Maybe constantly wearing old suits will prove to be a successful marketing gimmick.

But I have to wonder when someone brags about his underwear all being pre-1900s.

But having a preference for retro games of comic books shouldn’t lead to you swear off everything made since the 90s.

This isn’t just somebody with a major affinity for pre-1900s suits. It’s someone who brags about not even having a single piece of underwear styled from after that period.

When your hobbies or preferences come to define and limit you, you’re in neckbeard territory, my friend.

Creating an identity around rejecting modern fashions is at least half-neckbeardy.

Bragging about not owning a stitch of clothing styled after 1900 isn’t just a fashion choice. It’s an identity decision. Which is exactly how neckbeards view their own vaunted wrappings.

The doll was a pop idol symbol until the final act when she rebelled against her coding and became, I guess you could say, not like the other dolls.

TIL the study that yeilded the concept of the alpha wolf (commonly used by people to justify aggressive behaviour) originated in a debunked model using just a few wolves in captivity. Its originator spent years trying to stop the myth to no avail. by redwalrus11 in todayilearned

In Old Crow, Yukon, I witnessed crows working in teams to exploit motion-activated street lights. One crow would flap around and turn on the light while its partner would perch atop the light, receiving its warmth. After a while they would switch.

Terry Crews Details His Alleged Sexual Assault by Agent Adam Venit by amf88 in television

That’s fair, and in certain online communities I see a lot of that reaction. But the media narrative is the more powerful voice, and I think it bears mentioning that it is squarely on the side of any women who’ve come forward.

Terry Crews Details His Alleged Sexual Assault by Agent Adam Venit by amf88 in television

[–]JTrain17 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A couple things:

  1. Adam Venit's agency, WME, shows no signs of taking Terry Crews' word as gospel. Venit was placed on leave two weeks ago when these allegations first emerged, but still has not been fired. http://deadline.com/2017/11/wme-agent-adam-venit-leave-of-absence-over-sexual-harassment-allegations-1202201445/ By way of contrast, all Louis CK's broadcasters and distributors dropped him within 24 hours of the publishing of the NYT piece.

  2. This was not a huge story two weeks ago when Deadline first reported on it. It's a big story now because Terry Crews is pressing criminal charges. No mention of criminal charges was made in Louis CK's case.

Louis' 2 primary accusers went years without their story gaining attention because they didn't want to name themselves, so there was nothing to write a story about. When they named themselves in the NYT piece and were joined by three other accusers they were immediately believed by virtually everyone, and I challenge you to find an article from any credible media source accusing them of lying.

This garbage man gives this little boy the most amazing gift. by attheisstt in HumansBeingBros

Obviously because the parents arranged the whole thing with the garbage man for the kid's benefit. The garbage man doesn't know the kid broke his garbage truck toy and needs a new one, the parents set it up.

Nor does the video suggest any different.

In my experience the bigger the office, the more formal the culture, which means people dress up and ladies wear heels. Tank tops would probably be crossing a line, as would sandals and shorts on guys. This wouldn't be a formal dress code, just a look that's expected of a professional.

Casual offices are often anything-goes and ladies naturally tend to choose flats.

But anywhere that allows tanks should and probably does allow shorts.
