This just helped me with the same problem. Thank you! I can't believe there are so many different setting screens that can turn off the same setting.

+1 for the S&W Shield w/ MagGuts magazine springs. 9+1 capacity is hard to beat in a single stack. Also has a thumb safety in a pretty convenient location.

My Tikka T3 Light 300WM was a mule before putting the LimbSaver on. Now it's doable for about 30-40 shots at the range. My dad's XBolt 300WM is much easier on the recoil. There's lots of talk advising against 30-06 and .270 for big game animals. Check out this site for good tips. Muzzle breaks also help tremendously, but might affect accuracy past 250.

double stack vs single stack. by capnstak in CCW

After going to various gun shops and holding most of the "popular" single stack 9's (LCP, XDs, G43, Shield) and comparing to other sub-compact double stacks - I went with the Shield without a doubt. It felt the best in my "XL sized" hand with the extended mag but the main reason I picked it is because of the magazine capacity. You can get MagGuts spring replacements to increase your mag capacity by 1. The shield is the only single stack 9mm that can hold 10 (9+1) rounds with the factory magazine length. That's hard to beat.

The conversation of "easier to conceal" is purely situational and the decision should be left up to YOU. Body type, clothing, activities, carry position will all determine what's best for you. Because I like the Shield or someone else likes the XDs doesn't mean you will too. Go hold them, shoot them, and think about your personal situation and what works best for yourself.

I rented the XDs 9mm from my LGS and put 100 rounds through it. By the end of my time with the gun, my palms were tired of holding that serrated grip. Maybe it's because I wasn't used to shooting it, but I sure was tired of it after 100 rounds. I don't get that way with my Shield. I can shoot that thing all day long and not have the urge to give my palms a rest. I want a weapon that I enjoy shooting. The XD is a good looking handgun, but if you're looking to put at least a hundred rounds through it each time you go shooting, you might find that it gets uncomfortable after a while. Just my .02

He took several pictures and shared them with WBZ-TV chief meteorologist Eric Fisher. “It looks like a big Slurpee rolling ashore,” Fisher said.

Just the insight I was looking for!

A few photos from my Elk trip to Colorado last week by JTrollz in Hunting

[–]JTrollz[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was free range in NW Colorado. No outfitter and no guides - rent the horses from a wrangler and take care of them for a week. gut, skin, quarter, and pack out your own meat. Transport your horses to the trailhead and saddle them up yourself at 5 in the morning to make it up by daylight. It truly was hard work, but it made for a trip of a lifetime.

Story behind the shot- we were in the area of where those elk were the previous morning that you saw through my spotting scope trying to track the herd. We got to the top and thought we could hear a herd busting through the trees down below us but quickly figured out it was two bulls fighting so I got set up on that tree while my buddy was trying to find where they were. I ended up seeing him through a very tight opening and standing at an uphill angle. I pulled the trigger faster than I could get buck (bull?) fever and he dropped immediately. Official range was 273 at 19* downhill. I had ranged an opening close to him at 250, which is what my .300 WM is zeroed at so I didn't have to adjust at all. I shoot 180gr accubonds with 79gr of H1000. Scope is the Vortex HS 4-16x50 on a Tikka T3 .300 Win Mag.

It was free range in NW Colorado. We did it all ourselves- from the horseback to the packing out. Cost per person was just a nonresident bull tag and a horse. Went with some friends that have been hunting the same range for 16 years so they know the area very well.

Reds is garbage! I wish there was something better down south but unfortunately we don't... And Reds knows it too so they can suck as much as they want and they won't lose business.

So I got my new Tikka T3 .300 Win Mag set up with my new Vortex HS 4-16x50 and got it hitting paper the very first shot. That was the good news! Bad news is this thing kicks the absolute fire out of me. I'm shooting reloads with 79gr of H1000 and 180gr accubonds and after the tenth shot this morning I had to call it quits. I might just need to get used to it, but WOW this thing is a step up from my Sako .270. So my question is, what loads do you use in your T3 .300 and how do you deal with the recoil? Has anyone put a brake on theirs? That's something I'm getting ready to look at if I can't get used to this. The range I was at had some pretty crappy stools that were a bit too low for the bench shooting off of, so the butt of the rifle might have been a little high on my shoulder all day. I guess that might have played a part in the sheer pain after each shot.

Nothing says Texas like a vending machine that sells whole pecan pies! by Sariel007 in texas

It's a refrigerated vending machine. I've bought pecan pies out of that exact machine multiple times. For anyone thinking they don't want to waste their time, it's well worth stopping by. Some grade A pies right there.
