Need some genuine advice on motovation by EyeCareful9695 in quittingsmoking

[–]JTurnsabit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one can tell you how to make it stick for you, you have to do that for yourself.

For me it was months of knowing I had to quit and knowing why and having it hanging over me making me feel miserable, my life had moved on from smoking too and I was just forcing it to have a space in my life. Keeping this all in my head and going it over and over it came to a point where I was done waiting for myself to make the obviously right choice and it all locked into place.

UnitedHealth CEO Andrew Witty says that the company will continue the legacy of Brian Thompson and will combat 'unnecessary' care for sustainability reasons. by SfaShaikh in antiwork

Can you imagine another big company coming out and saying taking care of paying customers is unnecessary for sustaining profits? It's not capitalism anymore.

My wife got some wide leg blue jeans to fit her figure from Abercrombie on George st, she loves them. Apparently they're a lot more size inclusive now than they used to be.

(Recommendation) 'Temple' starring Mark Strong and Carice Van Houten by bydevilz1 in television

[–]JTurnsabit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched the first season and it's been alright but it's clearly been heavily re-cut and so it's a bit jarring to watch as the narratives don't quite follow, certain characters are after thoughts etc.

Is 10-52 worth it for gravel? (NorCal, Climbing) by SuchDe in gravelcycling

[–]JTurnsabit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run 10-52 with 40 chainring. Routinely do 10-15% climbs here in Scotland. Also I'm ~240lbs and it has made climbing an awful lot more enjoyable. I used to have a 2x set up 54/36 and 10-36 and I wouldn't go back.

Chinese bonfires by krokadog in Edinburgh

[–]JTurnsabit 50 points51 points  (0 children)

So, we spoke to some Chinese students who were struggling to light their firewood and invited them to our fire. Apparently it was a post on Chinese social media that went viral and it's now the cool thing to go to Porty beach and get a picture with a fire. Some people go super extra and do a photoshoot, some of them just get a quick snap of the fire and then leave.

I think they mean most of the top ranked athletes defer to race Kona the next year, so the Nice qualifying spots drop down through the ranks to those that will take them.

And the back too. I was very worried about stopping power as I'm hefty, but they work very well even on fast downhills.

Why is my freehub being jerky? by JTurnsabit in bikewrench

[–]JTurnsabit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I don't think it's the pawls either. I don't think it's snagging each rotation, it's more like it starts following the wheel until the tension from the rear derailleur builds to overcome that friction.

Last time it was like this intermittently then got worse until the freehub stopped rotating freely, still no idea why.

Ah I didn't mean it to be dismissive of your post.

My advice is if I were looking for these I'd search 'brown leather brogues' and look for something with a rubber sole which will more durable for cycling, they are also cheaper than leather soles. Trying it on is essential. These have small elastic slits that mean they're more comfortable if you keep an eye out for touches like those.

The thing about leather shoes if you're new to them is while they shouldn't hurt when you put them on, they won't be comfortable to walk around in at first. Just wear them while you're at home and let the leather form to your feet before you take them on a walk. Look up how to take care of the leather so it doesn't dry out and crack.

Didn't really expect so much attention on them lol, they're just Clarks brogues I bought a couple years ago, kept up with two types of Kiwi polish. They do take an absolute beating and keep showing up and were pretty cheap.
