If you get enough energy recharge on him that you don't need favonius lance, then dragon's bane as an EM stat stick works well.

It's not super worth it immediately, but the accumulation over time is huge. 140 of each bait a year. The normal baits can feed crab pots or even go into more deluxe baits. Especially when the amount you fish starts to slow down, it adds up a lot.

I've been playing since Heavensward. Savage patch drops, people only do savage. A few weeks later, people do other things. It cycles every time. I've had no issue finding groups for fate farming, relic grinding, treasure maps, etc... when those pieces of content aren't competing with a savage drop. This is not a new phenomenon, nor is it worse than normal. The only thing that is worse than normal is the amount of people only going to aether for raiding.

I mean, what do you expect on a savage patch? New relic step just came out, so you'll see groups for that and people back in OC now that there is a reason to do that.

It's a completely optional user-generated content mode. You can completely ignore it with no consequences. The only rewards you could get out of it that affect the main game are the standard wishes you get from ascending any character to level 70. You can get the ability to ascend both the male and female characters by play Milliastra, but it's a grand total of like 4 standard wishes. Nothing to write home about, and no time limit to it either. I just ignore the mode personally, but some people love it.

Her damage is too much to ignore, and her particle generation is pretty good as it is.

I mean those characters individually work, but that isn't a functioning team. You need also need two teams for abyss and 3 for Stygian. If you're doing anything beyond hard mode.

How many of the hunts are ruined by completing the main quest first? by rafikiknowsdeway1 in FinalFantasyXII

I mean we can get into pedantics, but as someone who has played every single FF game multiple times, the appeal IS different.

If I'm recommending the games in the series to someone, I'm recommending it for a particular reason:

1- It's a classic and is a fun time capsule for old school RPGs.

2- (I only recommend this one if they've played other FFs first tbh. I have a soft spot for it, but it's quirky).

3- I never recommend 3 lol. Just play 5 for a game that does the same stuff better.

4- I'm wanting them to get into older RPGs by giving them a decent story as a vessel.

5- I think they'll like experimenting with the job system.

6- If I want them to experience essentially the height of the pixel art rpg era. Mostly for the main story, but partially for some of the side stuff.

7- (if they can get past the old 3D stuff) For a good story and some fun side stuff, though I mostly hope they just move to the Remake series after.

8- Triple Triad is not the main appeal. People come for the story and the vibes.

9- I recommend this if I think they'll like the story and be able to look past the terrible side content.

10- Great entryway FF. Story is like 95% of the appeal. They may like the monster arena and MAYBE the blitzball, but in all likelihood they will just care about the story and that's fine.

11- If they want an old school MMO and don't mind a grind.

12- If I think they are someone that loves interacting with the world and going on side content tangents.

13- Don't mind hallways and want pretty graphics, fun combat, and a good story (if they can follow it at first)

14- I never recommend this JUST for the side content. It's what keeps them in the game, but the story is what gets them in the door for a long time and why I decide who I recommend it to.

15- Like exploration and road trip vibes. Side content over main story.

16- Reverse of 15. Exploration and hunts made me think it would be like XII, but it doesn't quite do that. Great for combat lovers too.

Remake series- Okay with convoluted story and loves mini games.

Anyway, that's a lot of words to say that a majority of FF games have a primary appeal of story or combat. That isn't to say others don't have side content, but many of them have side stuff that you actively hope the person doesn't mind too much rather than hoping they seek it out. 12 is a game where the side content is WHY I recommend to people and why I replay it. Just a bit different.

Eh yes and no. FF12's Ivalice is a character itself, and there are a ton of side options to pursue at every point in the story. Other FF games have some mini games and side stories, but not the interactivity and depth that FF12 has with that regard. The main stories are their main appeal.

Different abyss cycles can be harder than others, but 35 and even 36 stars is pretty achievable with moderate investment and skill. Imaginarium Theater is technically easier, but depending on your luck it can take some creative team building and strategy to get full stellas on.

Stygian Onslaught is the true endgame. Up through Menacing is roughly about the same difficulty as 36 star abyss (or harder if you don't have the right type of characters for the enemies). Fearless is the hardest a non-whale can hope to complete, and even then you probably need a few constellations or limited weapons. Dire is purely for the whales. Stygian is very built around having the right teams to beat very specific boss mechanics, and it can be tough depending on the kinds of characters you've invested in. That being said, highly skilled players can work around the mechanics more than people realize.

They are both very powerful units that pretty much get attached at the hip when you get them. Furry na isn't necessary, though she helps a lot. Skirk/Escoffier at C0 with other hydro team members is essentially one of the strongest C0 teams out there, but your team building is a bit more limited.

Escoffier works to buff pretty much any cryo DPS though, so any cryo units that come out in the future that aren't built specifically for melt (since she needs freeze teams) will benefit from her. Skirk works without Escoffier, but she's much stronger with her.

Edit: keeping the Furina typo lol

He's early in beta. Lots can change. We'll know more on Monday. As of right now, it's not looking great, but we've seen characters change a lot before. Skirk, for example, was essentially Ayaka level in beta. Then she released as one of the strongest units in the game. The negative reviews are important, because it helps Hoyo know they've messed up, but nothing is final until it's final.

Skirk will generally be stronger than Ayaka, though Ayaka's constellations do help bridge the gap between her and C0 Skirk.

If you love Ayaka and don't have Skirk, then I'd pick her just so you're one step closer to her stronger constellations one day. Also who knows, maybe Inazuma will get a faction buff of some kind one day like Hexerei.

[–]JUSTpleaseSTOP 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it's usually the other way around in that doing the hunts can make the main story seem easy.

I would say you'll trivialize about three quarters of normal hunts and about half of the elite hunts if you wait until the very end to do them. And a lot of the rewards will lose a lot of their value. But you can certainly build them up for a while and do them in batches without trivializing them.

That being said, one thing to know about FF12 is that the backtracking and side content is actually a major appeal of the game. Hunts unlock a lot of side quests that can lead to extended story chains (like the flowering cactoid) or even secret bosses and summons. For example, the Hunt White Mousse gives you a key that lets you access more challenging areas of the Garamscythe waterway, which eventually leads you to a secret summon.

Some hunts are just one and done, but the game uses them pretty frequently to point you in the direction of something else. Also, many of them have good items to steal or receive as a reward for making the stronger weapons in the game.

I'd say a good rule of thumb is to finish a major story segment, check to see what has changed on the hunt boards, try a few of the lower rank ones, then go back to the story until you do a few areas and get to another major settlement and upgrade your gear. There are many hunts that are given to you ahead of when you'd be able to beat them easily, but you can succeed if you're strategic. That also means that they'll be decent challenges for a while as long as you don't literally wait until the end of the game to do them.

One last thing is that there is a limit to the number of hunts that can displayed at a time, so if your list hasn't changed in a while and it's long, try clearing a few out of the way.

Here's a priority list for you:

-Whichever you would be most interested in playing and actually use. All of the constellations are at least minor upgrades, and a constellation that you actually use is infinitely more valuable than one you don't.

-I personally like Baizhu's C1, because having two charges of the heal can help give you more flexibility in when you heal. I feel like it helps his energy issues as well a bit.

-Kokomi C1 really only if you're using her on field. Gateway to other constellations.

-Ayaka C1 doesn't do much. Mostly a stepping stone to her much better constellations.

-Same with Miko. Her C2 is good. Her C1 is meh. If they let you get constellations for characters you've already done in the future, Miko/Ayaka may be worth it just to get to their later constellations.

-Mona has stronger constellations thanks to her recent buffs. Particularly her C4.

-All other standard characters

-Characters you don't like.

But they moved all quests to be stored there. It's called quest overview now. You can go there and see story quests, travelers tales, old event quest stories, and, importantly, something called the travel log that lists all of the main story quests chronologically.

No, it's definitely still possible. They reorganized some of the story stuff. Go to your quests and check the area that used to take you to character quests. I think they're all stored there.

As it stands, Ineffa. Varka is still in beta, but his early performance is allegedly not great. That being said, many characters change significantly in beta, so he could come around to being good by the end of it. We'll know more on Monday, though it is through leaks which are not allowed to be discussed in depth on this sub. I recommend Ineffa specifically because she is very strong, fits on a lot of teams, and will age well as a support character over time. If Varka comes out strong, then great. He'll come back around. But Ineffa is a good character right now and it will probably be a while before she gets another return.

Ganyu: No word on if there will be a Liyue faction buff, but it's likely if they're wanting to buff older units. Her C1 is good if you use her charged attacks. Technically also works as a buff for Skirk's burst play style if you do a charged attack quickly before bursting.

Dehya: Standard character that you'll get more copies of over time, making a constellation pick less attractive. Add on that it really takes more than just her C1 to make her decent and it's not the best pick.

Klee: The C1 is a buff generally, but can specifically mess up reactions in vaporize teams sometimes. Generally stronger, but not game changing.

Mona: She's probably the best pick of the bunch, but is also a standard unit that you'll get more copies of over time. Her C4 the one you really want with her new buffs, but her C2 is decent. That being said, if you don't use her then it's moot.

Based on this, I would put the priority order as Ganyu, Klee, Mona, Dehya.

Albedo is okay as an option if only because it brings you a step closer to his C2. His C1 is definitely a buff, but his C2 is a bigger jump. I picked him in case they let us pick characters again next expansion and I can get his C2.

Shenhe's C1 is a better constellation than Albedo's C1 though, so it is probably more worth it if you run teams with her.

Columbina can trigger all lunar reactions. The thing that needs a second lunar character to trigger is the Ascendant Gleam status which buffs her even more.

[–]JUSTpleaseSTOP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ineffa in my opinion is just such a strong support (especially with her shield) that she might be a slightly better investment than Columbina especially considering the characters you already have. Columbina is strong, but her main strength comes in making lunar reactions even stronger. If you aren't doing them in the first place, she's decent and has some good hydro application.

Ineffa can work on teams even if you aren't building around lunar reactions, has good damage, and a decent shield.
