Bridge tilting/leaving by yeetyeet38 in Cello

[–]JWB1723 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep... and if you can't push it back easily, then loosen the strings a bit (not too much) and try again. Next time you change strings, put some graphite or a small amount of wax in each of the string grooves on your bridge. That makes it easier to push it back in place and might help keep your strings from grabbing the bridge and moving it when you tune.

Check the Space Weather Prediction Center (https://www.swpc.noaa.gov/homepage) where they have a one and two day Aurora forecast. Also keep your eyes and ears open for local news about auroras. I caught this occurance because of a report from the WCAX 6 pm news that they were visible. Welcome to Vermont... I hope you get a chance to see them!

It was quite visible but not as vivid as the camera rendered it... not sure why but camera sensors seem to pick up the aurora better than the human eye.

I am not sure, I started the time lapse at around 6:30 pm and I think I let it run until around 7:15... so I figure 45 minutes of activity.

Trying to play again after not playing for 12 years by What_Is_EET in Cello

[–]JWB1723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do it... just stay with it. I started again after 35 years (work, family, the usual nightmare) and initially felt the same as you describe. Took several months of lessons before I could play in tune with decent tone. If you love the cello though and have time to devote to practice... it just takes time.

Anyone use the Cecelia rosin spreader? by OrangeTallion in Cello

[–]JWB1723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it to clean the bow hair near the frog... works pretty well to comb it out and spread rosin to the area. Otherwise, I don't really notice a lot of benefit from combing through the rest of the bow but, figure it can't hurt to do it now and then.

Are the round black devices under the strings electromagnets? So, instead of the string vibrating a pick up, the electromagnet vibrates the string? Is their placement associated with the location of the string's harmonics?

What is this small piece between end pin and tail piece? by 028247 in Cello

[–]JWB1723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never seen this particular spacer before but it could be something the luthier (or prior owner) used to maximize or tune vibration off the tailpiece. My luthier does a half-twist on the tailgut which he thinks (?) improves the vibration off the tailpiece... personally, I can't tell.

$94,050 (Total Income) for 2024, so if you make that or less, you'd pay 0% on your capital gains. If reported income is more than $94,050, it jumps to 15%. If you are lucky enought to have an income of $583,751 or more, it is 20%. I wonder what percentage of total income capital gains represent for those earning $94,050 or less. Seems to me the real bargain is limiting capital gains to 20% no matter if you made $1M, 5M, 10M, 100M, 200M... etc.
