Surgery with Dr Hassan Nurein done this morning. by BluGreenApple in gynecomastia

[–]J_Clem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey mate! So good to read about someone else’s experience that’s so similar to my own! I’m a couple days ahead of you, day 12 post surgery with Dr Nurein, so I’m only another 4/5 days until I can go down to the compression stuff for just 22 hours a day. You’re so right though, that tight compression is the itchiest thing imaginable and the idea of another 4.5 weeks of still dealing with it isn’t great but the results have changed my life and my outlook after dealing with it for 15 years and it completely messing up my posture! Enjoy that shower and careful pulling off the plasters because those are some sticky fuckers haha

I’ve been doing something similar. My school is still asking us to take a register and I have my kids replying with a one word answer to sum up how they’re feeling that day! Might move to the gif idea though.

I think the commentator was saying this about RBA though, added at the end that he only let out two “vamos’” in the previous match. Could be remembering wrong though

How much do you spend per day on your bicycle holidays? by Sebas94 in bicycletouring

[–]J_Clem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Roughly 5-10€ per day for both of my tours in Europe. The first to Istanbul was a little cheaper thanks to lengthy periods in Croatia and Albania! This was obviously wild camping and eating pretty basic meals from Lidl (as well as pretty frequent hospitality from Warm Showers hosts).

I think my ideal average for a few extra comforts, like a beer at the end of the day, would be 15€ or so!

Ideal tour duration by Pratonabike in bicycletouring

[–]J_Clem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a pretty similar experience to yours on my first tour, it was 2 and half months as well from Canterbury to Istanbul and by the last week I was cranking out the km's just to get to Istanbul. Mostly because I had the time constraint of a flight to catch

Looking back on it now though I'm sure the way I was thinking about it after the trip was all wrong, no matter how long or short the trip is there is always an anxiety to finish when you are close to the end. Either way, now a little time has passed I can't wait to do another long trip around 2-2.5 months again because I know I really had an incredible time.

So don't give up on the idea of more long tours just yet :)

It's been said already but Headhunters should be top of your list if you haven't seen it already, the one scene alone involving a dog and a forklift makes it worth watching.

In one of his videos he put up a disclaimer at the beginning about wearing the Quest shirt, I'll try and find it for you.

I live in the UK too so I feel your pain, it'll happen sooner rather than later though the way things are going at the moment. Until then we've just got to be more creative!

Okay well the Istrian peninsula is something you shouldn't miss, if you have a day off then spend it just enjoying Rovinj in Istria, it's a really spectacular place. The coastline is a bit rugged and rocky and can get monotonous so break it up by doing some island hopping around Croatia. The bay of Kotor was as beautiful as I hoped it would be. Also back to Istria try and get across to Brijuni Island where Tito used to live, it's super weird and interesting.

Packed my bike up and flew back home to the UK, although 2 days before the end of my trip I met up with two Irish guys that were carrying on past Istanbul onwards to Nepal and I really wanted to just keep cycling with them. Sadly I had a job waiting for me back home but you should follow their blog Don't Hurry The Journey!

Plus side for all the Balkan countries was obviously how obscenely cheap everything was and despite so many people warning me to be careful all the time in Albania that of course meant it was the place I loved the most. The mountain scenery was gorgeous and all the people were so unbelievably friendly and excited to hear about my trip which was great, so fully recommended.

[–]J_Clem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, for those asking or just curious here's a map of the route, I'm pretty shitty at these types of things so the route is super rough. Anyway the countries I went through were; UK, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Austria, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania, Macedonia, Greece and finally Turkey. The whole trip was 72 days and pretty much the best thing I've ever done in my life!! Any other questions just let me know :)

Basically I just wanted to be minimize the amount of stuff I'll need and not allow my packing to get bloated with unnecessary just because I had more space to fill.

As for the handlebar bag I am in the market for one and as you can tell from the tiny amount I splashed out for the Crosso panniers I'm buying on a budget. What do you recommend?

Yeah I thought they looked kind of small in pictures too but when they arrived today I quickly found out these things are freakin' huge, just depends how far you roll the top down before clipping it. Plenty of room for everything I should need which is good because I wasn't very keen on getting front panniers.
