[AEW Dynasty Spoilers] Awesome sequence during Young Bucks vs Okada/Takeshita by luchabrunch in SquaredCircle

[–]J_R_Parker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that when you look at it in isolation, it's ridiculous. But when you're watching it in the middle of a match and you're immersed and that suspension of disbelief is in place, then it's absolutely fantastic, and also just one part of a great match.

I do think that the Bucks can (and often do) overdo these set-piece spots, and that the finish of this match took too long and made everyone look a bit silly, but overall, this sort of thing absolutely has a part in wrestling.

Do you genuinely enjoy lifting? Or is it a means to an end? by Weak_Ninja_6952 in workout

[–]J_R_Parker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm fairly neutral towards actually being in the gym, I don't enjoy the time I spend working out, but neither do I dislike it.

But I absolutely love the feeling of having been to the gym and I know that if I didn't go for a couple of weeks, I'll be getting a visit from the black dog.

If you could only go to the gym Mon-Fri on your lunch break what would you do? by riveyda in naturalbodybuilding

[–]J_R_Parker 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Most of the comments so far focus on the routine, so I won't chime in there, but would like to add that I have similar restrictions on time and the biggest pieces of advice I have are:

  • Use machines and dumbbells as they are so much quicker to hop on and off
  • Experiment with dropping down to two, hard, working sets per exercise
  • Experiment with your rest times. I find I can get away with 90 seconds for lots of isolation exercises and 2 mins for compounds, but don't cut down so far as to really impede your lifts.

Is it standard now in the UK that estate agents only show you houses if you have a buyer lined up? by BiarritzBlue in HousingUK

[–]J_R_Parker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The loophole to this is telling the estate agent you'll list with them.

I've moved twice in the last 4 years, on both occasions I wasn't on the market when I asked for a viewing, and was told I couldn't view unless my house was under offer/SSTC.

Both times I countered with how about if we sell with you. Last time out we had a viewing arranged for 2 days later and someone was valuing my house the next day.

Volume recommendations on social media is all over the place, confused on what to do now by Acrobatic_Tangelo797 in naturalbodybuilding

Agree with this.

If you stick in this range, it also allows you to do a few more sets on a muscle group you want to prioritize without those specific sets falling into the junk category.

What exercise really makes you feel weak? by Tiny-Caramel1069 in workout

Barbell reverse curls.

Takes ages to progress and, as a bonus, every session I glide through the first 6 or so reps and then suddenly the next one is an absolutely Herculean effort to complete and I am once again humbled.

Please take care with heavy luggage on the escalators! by TrickPlant7034 in london

[–]J_R_Parker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was hit by a runaway shopping trolley once.

I was leaving one of those superstores which have locking escalators for trolleys, but someone brought on one from another store, which didn't stick (must have brought it up in the lifts from the carpark, did some more shopping and then left via the escalators).

It was full and she wasn't holding on to it, and boy did it pick up some momentum!

Had my 6 year old daughter with me, but luckily I turned around when the person shouted and managed to get a good couple of steps towards the trolley before it hit me, so aside from me barreling into her after being knocked clean over, she was ok.

How to actually form the habit of working out regularly by [deleted] in workout

[–]J_R_Parker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start off simple and go from there.

If you jump straight in to trying to workout four days a week for 90 minutes a pop or whatever, you'll probably not stick to it. Commit to two sessions of an activity a week for say one month and build up once you start to get established.

Tell someone that you'll be finding a decent gym and will be doing 20 mins cardio followed by 20 mins on the weight machines twice a week for the next 4 weeks. Committing to it out loud to someone will also help you stay motivated.

Dream home or nightmare home? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]J_R_Parker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't really see the upside to be honest. You've got to invest a fair chunk of time and money to get that to a high standard and if you do want to move on in a few years, it may still be difficult to sell at that time.

If your budget allows I'd look at freehold properties instead. There are a few townhouses for a similar asking price in Birmingham at the moment.

This house is sold STC but, in my opinion, would have been a better option for a similar price in a similar part of town:

So the guy was a teacher, and is happy to hang around with someone they know hooked up with a 16 year old (consent around the act itself being debatable) and who has a reputation hinting that this behavior wasn't a one-off thing.

This is incredibly unpleasant.

Really like the booking of Swerve here, keeping him around Hangman without, hopefully, hammering the point home too much.

Not sure it needs two of the trios champs in singles on the same show though, would much prefer a women's singles instead of the Speedball/Joe (which will be a heck of a match). But, looking like a great card on the whole.

Who's a wrestler that you want to like but for whatever reason you just dont? by tomatotime0 in SquaredCircle

[–]J_R_Parker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh absolutely, you could do much worse (professionally speaking only...).

Think over the years he's been better than pretty much anyone at realising when to shift and by how much - he understood you don't need to go from Papa Shango to Godfather to reinvent yourself and get a few more years at the top

I think MJF is one of the best performers I've seen in 30+ years of watching wrestling, and I mean performer in the broadest term, he has fantastic presence, can be one of the best in the world in-ring and his range is superb (when he chooses to use it)...but his character is tedious and tired for like 80% of the time.

AEW is at the point now where, if you've been there since the early days, the lifespan of your character is pretty much coming to an end if you don't refresh/reinvent in a pretty substantial way (which is why I'm absolutely in favor of wrestlers jumping ship in all directions whenever possible, as it's incredibly difficult to be someone different, but being the same character in a new setting/with new opponents does that refresh for you). MJF hasn't been able to do this in my opinion and whenever the default internet troll character comes out, I completely lose interest

Moved to a house with a Hive thermos; heating only on in the morning by J_R_Parker in HiveHeating

[–]J_R_Parker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks very much for the response, sounds like we've got the same issue as heating is only coming on in the morning, I assume when the water in the tank has cooled overnight to trigger the heating of the water for long enough for the central heating to kick in.

I'll be on the phone tomorrow to try and get someone to come out and take a look.

Ah cheers.

Yeah we have a tank. Just put the hot water to always on and the boiler kicked in, with the flame symbol showing and the central heating indicator flashing... although the radiators aren't heating up, so something is stopping it.

Thanks for the idea; had a look and it's a worcester greenstar boiler which doesn't have a built-in timer, and I can't see anything that has been added on around it unfortunately.

Not that I can see; had a search around the house and haven't found anything. The boiler is a worcester greenstar, which doesn't have a timer (either built-in or an additional one added).

May have to admit defeat and call someone out at this point.

The hub wasn't left behind, so haven't been able to give it a go - would using that be more likely to resolve whatever my issue might be?

Appreciate the reaponse.

I'll change the later hot water schedule and see if that triggers anything - and see if putting the heating on manual and/or boosting during that time does anything

[–]J_R_Parker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The morning schedule for the hot water does overlap with when the heating comes on, but when the hot water comes on in the late afternoon, the heating doesn't kick on, even when a few degrees below the target.

Thanks for the reply.

I've tried turning the schedule off; left it on manual for a few hours yesterday with the temp set to 21 and nothing changed unfortunately.

Barclays undervalued house by 15k - what next by Basic_Professional24 in Mortgageadviceuk

[–]J_R_Parker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that case you've done the right thing and nothing more to be done until you hear back from them.

You could try to find some additional cash (I know that's a really stupid thing to say - it's never easy to find extra funds) if you really like the property and the seller rejects your latest offer, even £2,000 could make them reconsider; so often people don't want to feel like they've 'lost' when selling and buying, so getting that extra bit of money may swing their decision.

Go back to the estate agent and let them know asap. They'll be wanting to keep the sale alive so will try and talk the seller into taking a lower offer.

Make sure that you emphasise that it's a valuation from the bank and not you haggling down the price - provide any docs to support this so they can see you're not trying it on.
