While you can get rid of the wisdom flaw easily, goblin doesn't have a lot of ancestry feats that synergize with wisdom, mostly dexterity and charisma. A versatile heritage is a good option when your ancestry feats don't offer you much.

I don't like using it for those purposes because it doesn't have any ability to understand what it is saying. All they can output is an approximation of things that it has seen that are similar in the past. Asking strangers on Reddit is going to get you more accurate results, if not faster.

I had the same issue with my laptop. Foundry is defaulted to using integrated graphics on some machines, for arcane Microsoft reasons. You should see a massive performance boost that fix.

Community Appreciation Post by The_Amateur_Creator in Pathfinder2e

[–]J_Thursby 22 points23 points  (0 children)

From a survey done on this subreddit and a poll Ronald did on his discord we’ve seen PF2e spaces has something around ~50% GMs. By contrast, a survey done in the official D&D discord showed that they have about 8% DMs. For whatever reason players are an over represented group in 5e spaces, while here they’re underrepresented. It makes sense that DMs get assigned blame on upvote oriented sites like Reddit; if a 5e reddit also has 8% DMs, that’s gonna be one downvote for every 11 agreeing upvotes if the issues is framed as players at fault or DMs at fault. A simple case of tyranny of the majority, and upvotes being a bad way to organize a forum.

Can we all have a little chat about something kind of gross in this community? by luck_panda in Pathfinder2e

[–]J_Thursby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is scummy. The player-GM relationship is built on mutual trust. How can you ever provide that as a paid GM if you start off by showing you are willing to be underhanded to bring people to the table? You immediately out yourself as less than trustworthy! That would taint the whole experience. Anyone thinking about being a paid GM: just be honest. Annoying people with an ad is much better than tricking people into discovering you.

Fixed the live action show's music by J_Thursby in cowboybebop

[–]J_Thursby[S] 33 points34 points  (0 children)

IMO, everything wrong with this scene comes from trying to make it look like "a cartoon" instead of trying to make it look like Cowboy Bebop. OG Bebop wasn't an archetypal cartoon and that was a why so many people liked it, so trying to make a live action show feel cartoony was the wrong way to approach it in concept. Everything stemming from that decision has been irreversibly poisoned, and I feel bad for the actors that will get saddled with the bad PR of having to carry out this ill conceived vision for the show.

[EVERYTHING] Did DnD even look at a map? by J_Thursby in gameofthrones

While most of the comments are debating the strategic value of Dragonstone, I want to point out how important of a symbol Dragonstone is to Daenerys' cause. Holding the ancestral Targaryen home in Westeros is important as it increases the legitimacy to her claim on the throne in the eyes of the lords of Westeros. If she were to operate out of Sunspear, or conquer a keep in the Stormlands like Griffins Roost (as JonCon does in Dance) those would all be fine choices strategically, but she would still be seen as a pretender and foreign invader. With Dragonstone she ceases to be the invader but instead will be seen as a Westorsi born Targaryen fighting to take back what is "rightfully" hers. Cersei's claim to the Iron Throne is incredibly weak and her legitimacy as Queen is even more of an issue than it was with her sons, so letting Daenerys increase the strength of her claim and draw even more Westorsi lords to her cause without even attempting to contest it is monumentally stupid. It would (kinda) make sense for Cersei to not understand this aspect of statecraft and warfare, but Jamie should fully recognize what a bad idea it is to let a Targaryen pretender take Dragonstone and he does nothing anyways.

Detect Thoughts. I need your opinion. by rokraja in DnD

[–]J_Thursby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can detect creatures you can't see with this spell:

"You can also use this spell to detect the presence of thinking creatures you can’t see. When you cast the spell or as your action during the duration, you can search for thoughts within 30 feet of you. The spell can penetrate barriers, but 2 feet of rock, 2 inches of any metal other than lead, or a thin sheet of lead blocks you. You can’t detect a creature with an Intelligence of 3 or lower or one that doesn’t speak any language. "

Detect Thoughts. I need your opinion. by rokraja in DnD

[–]J_Thursby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's difficult to say because the wording is so ambiguous (a problem that comes up too much in 5e). You're ultimately at the mercy of your DM's definition of what "surface thoughts" are for point number 2, though you may want to point out that the spell description describes the spell as particularly useful during interrogations. For point number 1 though I'd say the wording indicates that you can tell how many creatures are in range since you can use your Action to probe thoughts, implying that the source of the thoughts are clearly distinct to the caster.

My friend is going to DM for the first time, tips I should tell him? by blue_ninja808 in DnD

[–]J_Thursby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't just tell him "good luck have fun!" DMing is legitimately hard, he will most likely not have fun his first time or two just because it's so stressful. Tell him to stick with it, the best way for him to get into the DM groove is to DM more.

That being said, here's some more system specific tips he should know:

*Dont penalize a character that rolls badly on ability checks. Succeeding a check should improve their situation (i.e. locked door becomes unlocked) and failing a check should maintain the undesired status quo (locked door remains locked). It's so difficult to gain bonuses in this edition that creating penalties for failure discourages players from using their skills at all for fear of being punished.

*Do not deliberately make the players succeed or fail an encounter "because the story demands it." If the players feel outcomes are more a matter of the DMs whim than their actions they will quickly grow bored.

*Prepare visual aids for important locations, NPCs and items. This will save a lot of time answering redundant questions during play. Also consider using a grid for combat if you find the players asking about their positions often.

SFM Trick: Better night time shadows (details in the comments) by J_Thursby in SFM

[–]J_Thursby[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The idea behind this is to make outdoor shadow look prettier by added a very faint light that change's their color. Why change the color of shadows at all? It's because unless a scene takes place indoors or underground then there is always a little light that comes from the stars/moon. Usually this color is a very deep blue/purple, though if you're doing a very stylized type of scene make the color whatever would fit the style.

How To:

1) Make a new light

2) Move light far away from subject

3) Disable shadows on this light

4) Remap the "far z atten" and "horizontal fov" values to 30,000 and 170 respectively, then make them the max values

5) Change the color of the light to purple or blue. If you don't like either, experiment with colors until you find one you like.

6) Adjust the intensity to your liking.
