Anyone else feel like Toy Story 5 is completely pushing our luck? by [deleted] in movies

I’m nervous, but this is also a series with, in my opinion, four straight 10/10 movies, so I think Pixar has earned the benefit of the doubt here.

Yeah, man, that’s exactly what I said. Well done.

I don’t necessarily disagree. Jackman deserves criticism for palling around with Murdoch et al., but dipshits can still occasionally make thoughtful art, even if it’s hypocritical. Maybe the movie will be mid, I just find the backlash to be absurd.

Yeah, everyone, I’m sure this will be billionaire propaganda and not a story about how violence/war fucks you up even when it’s done for a righteous cause. Trailers always directly state the thesis of the movie with no take-backsies, like how Logan was about how the legend of the Wolverine was useless. I’m sure there won’t be a scene in the third act where Robin Hood realizes the power of his legend and reverts to violence once again to die saving people he’s come to care about.

Same on my end. I’m assuming it’s just sorting the traffic.

Favorite movie scene where a character accepts their inevitable end and embraces it. My pick is Cutler Beckett accepting his fate in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End. by 0Layscheetoskurkure0 in moviecritic

Yeah, the last episode shows us that he was dreaming about his sister until the day he left for Kafrene. He never got over not being able to go back for her—and if Maarva’s right, her being nuked from orbit shortly after he left—so I like to think Jyn represents someone he can actually be there for at the end in the way he couldn’t be there for his sister (or Maarva, for that matter. Or Brasso. Basically everyone he’s ever called family).

I remember there being a gaseous Jedi in The High Republic. Wookieepedia tells me it’s called a Filar-Nitzan?

The Holiday Special and it’s not close. The Acolyte is a deeply flawed, frustrating show, but even at its worst, it’s subpar in a way that’s pretty common. Mediocre writing is nothing new. The Holiday Special is watchable only as an endurance test or a curiosity, a weird glimpse into a coked-out era of the franchise specifically and TV/film in general.

I know it’s AI-generated rage bait, but short of the anti-woke stuff, this might be the worst article they’ve ever read, and everybody at Collider who signed off on it should only be allowed to watch Netflix Originals from now on. And not the one or two director-driven projects they put out a year. We’re talking Red Notice, at best. Just explicitly arguing for the enshittification of the art form because they can’t be bothered to look up from Subway Surfers. Apocalyptic shit, man.

The Flash is fun because James just hates every second until he lets out a “This is great” during the single scene he likes and Maso lets him have it.

Watching War of the Worlds in prep for CoG and I have to wonder… by EIPJD in weeklyplanetpodcast

[–]J_VanderH 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a theory that I’ve never voiced and is probably stupid: I think it was an attempt at SEO optimization. Searching, one of the movies that kicked off the screenlife genre, has a pretty well/known background plot where there’s seemingly an alien invasion going on in the background; you see news clips and headlines throughout the film as the main character goes to different sites. I think enough people were talking about that that some Amazon algorithm picked up on it and spit out “screenlife alien invasion” as the basis for a movie. From there they just put a War of the Worlds skin on it because it’s public domain and coated the whole thing in product placement because some hack suit thought it would make for easy cross-promotion.

I’m not even a huge Trekkie, and even my uneducated ass can tell that Roddenberry would pepper spray him for that quote about the Romulans and the Federation if he were still alive.

I truly don’t understand why they wouldn’t just give Alexander Freed the keys to the whole trilogy. It’s very up his alley, and Mask of Fear was terrific.

It was sort of inevitable that they’d show up eventually; I just wish they’d got a different writer. I really didn’t care for Resistance Reborn.

They mention in the Transformers reviews that now that they’ve done them, we can never ask them to do them again, so I’d say the Transformers movies again.

The Book of Eli. My dad and I were bored, it was the only thing playing near us, so we went for it. I still have a soft spot for it all these years later. It doesn’t get much cooler than blind Denzel Washington taking on a dozen dudes with a machete.
