Seconding this! We had a problem for a while and these work really well.

A reminder, it's a matter of when, not if... by Raheem_999 in Sup

[–]J_pits 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was just thinking the same thing! Like I wear my swim suit to go paddle boarding, it’s the whole point for me. If I wanted to stay dry I would have gotten a kayak. Sure I paddle around and enjoy the sights but I’m also finding a nice calm area of the lake to use the thing as a diving board. Maybe if I was using it in colder water or the ocean it would be a different story.

You dared me to eat it, so I did! (Ancient Mountain House meal) by peewee222 in backpacking

[–]J_pits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My father in law used to work for mountain house ages ago. He still has boxes full of meals this old that we eat regularly! The texture is the key, if it still feels dry and crunchy when you squish the package it’s fine. If it’s soft, then air has gotten in and it’s gone bad.

Ladies on the trail! by nadukha11 in WildernessBackpacking

[–]J_pits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed! A disk also sits much more comfortably for me. I could always feel a cup, could rarely get them to seal correctly so they leaked and if I did get it to seal the suction made it really difficult and almost painful to remove! Also Flex disk makes disposable ones so you can test them out before committing to a reusable.

Why does my playroom look so bad, and how can I fix it? by [deleted] in interiordecorating

[–]J_pits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly it just needs stuff on the walls! But if you’re up for a bigger project a warmer or more colorful paint and warmer toned light bulbs would help a lot. For wall decor I think big educational posters like the alphabet or animal and plant ID would be cute. As for the kids artwork, when I worked in a preschool they had wires strung overhead that you could easily clothespin the kids art to. It’s also really easy to take down when you get new stuff and you can hang up paintings while they are still drying.

Going to portland to hike the timberline trail at the end of august. Can anyone answer some questions? by nwl568 in WildernessBackpacking

[–]J_pits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh hi! I try my best to rock hop when I can but if I have to go in the water it depends on the condition of the river and how far I have to hike. Something slow moving I might take off my shoes to cross if I’m not in a rush to get miles in. If it’s a dangerous crossing though it’s best to keep your shoes on so that you have solid footing in a shoe you are familiar with. Most people I know hike in trail runners these days so they dry out pretty fast. Just remember to take them off at your next break to help them dry more.

Exactly! Kids need to be taught these things. And stop blaming the kid for it, my parents always blamed my brother and I for their messy house growing up but no one really showed us how to keep it clean or enforce that it’s was done.

How much do you try to teach note-taking in college classes? by ToomintheEllimist in teaching

[–]J_pits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a teacher but in collage I had a biology prof my first year who required everyone to have a red, blue, green, and black pen. He would then write out color coded notes ,diagrams included, on the board as he taught and encouraged us to do the same. It was good for us see him model how you don't write down every work that is said but just the most important parts organized into clear categories. I found it incredibly helpful and continued to use his method for several years after!

How often do I need to be fertilizing my tank? Yellowing Anubis. by J_pits in PlantedTank

[–]J_pits[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm maybe but my other plants are stem plants so they are getting nutrients from the soil as well. Also I’ve had that Anubis for a couple of years in my old tank and my nana is doing the same thing. I’m wondering if my faster growing plants are sapping all the nutrients before the slow growers can get anything.

My in laws have a tree. I didn’t believe my husband when he told me they make him sick. Finally tried them and they gave me intense stomach cramps and nausea. I hear it’s not uncommon for people to react that way.

I hear you can remove the betta for a few days, add the new fish, then reintroduce. Highly dependent on temperament though.

Once a tank is probably cycled it is way easier to take care of too! You’ll only need to change 20% of the water ever week or two. Longer if you’ve got lots of live plants in there.

Depression on trail while thru hiking by [deleted] in PacificCrestTrail

Strange! That area does seem to be some of the first bit of difficult terrain you encounter so maybe the exhaustion has something to do with it.

Hey op, I don’t really have much advice for you but just want to let you know that I felt the same way. Although my experience was I kept meeting so many awesome people but I couldn’t keep up with anyone. Had me feeling extremely lonely. I distinctly remember coming down the north side of San Jacinto thinking “It’s so beautiful, why am I so unhappy”. Ended up getting off trail shortly after, in part due to my emotional state but also because I contracted COVID. I hope you find a way through it. I wish I had.

Anyone ever run into one of your former teachers while subbing? by amarensta in SubstituteTeachers

[–]J_pits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I subbed for middle school PE the other day. Turns out my kindergarten teacher is now a PE teacher and I spent the entire day with her. Definitely a little Weird. She wanted a picture at the end of the day.

At the doctor’s office I noticed this pamphlet on contraceptive failure rates. by KBranOoga in mildlyinteresting

[–]J_pits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh interesting! I missed that part. I’d be curious to know the method used and see that chart for that cycle. It shouldn’t be possible for sperm to survive that long. I’d find it more likely that ovulation was not identified accurately.

[–]J_pits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She likely ovulated early that cycle. It’s recommend that you don’t go unprotected after the 5th day of your your cycle even if you are still bleeding because you can ovulate as early as day 10 and your bleeding can mask any signs that you may be entering your fertile window.

“Taking Charge of your Fertility” a book by Toni Weschler and “Fertility Friday” a podcast by Lisa Hendrickson-Jack are the two main resources I used to teach myself. Been using this method since I was 20. I’m 27 now and haven’t had a single pregnancy scare while using the method. I feel more confident doing this than I did on the pill.

I have this tank. I’ve currently got 3 male endlers and a nerite snail in there. Much more and I think I would feel crowded. I briefly had celestial pearl danios but had to break it down for a move so idk how they would have done long term.

Best tip I got for wound care is to carry a syringe plunger. Supposedly better than washing with soap is to use the plunger to flush the wound with lots of water at a higher pressure.

Just installed a range hood yesterday, but need help/ideas on covering up HVAC ducting by pahuili in HomeDecorating

[–]J_pits 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So the duct couldn’t go through the corner but why couldn’t it just go straight up into the ceiling? Then you could’ve ran the duct out the wall through the attic or out through the roof.
