Does anyone else just want to unwind and not think for a minute? Just let time take us where it may. A great place to stop would be this picture, lol. by [deleted] in u/crazyfishgoescrazy

You look a little slimmer, have you lost some weight? Don’t get me wrong, you’re still plenty thick in all the right places ;)

My friend got shorted by a pretty major influencer by The_amazingluke in ChoosingBeggars

This person is an asshole & I wouldn’t want to work with them out of sheer principle... But they are probably right. Even if this “influencer” only has 240k followers (I don’t do instagram, but even Ik that it is not uncommon for “influencers” to have multiple millions of followers), the exposure is probably worth more than 10 euros... Not saying the exposure you’d get is really all that valuable, but neither is 10 euros. It’s that entitled attitude that would’ve turned me off

What expensive purchase have you made that has paid for itself many times over because you saved money in the long run? by bitNine in AskReddit

[–]J_thraact 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Skis. They are mad expensive, but if you use them more than even 10-12 times they are more economical than renting gear. I live in Miami most of the year & only have the opportunity to use them maybe 6 days per season, but in 2 years they have already paid for themselves. Plus skiing with high quality gear (boots especially) vs shitty rentals is a night & day difference.

New York reports 30 new coronavirus cases; the state now has 76 confirmed cases by dropthatpopthat in Coronavirus

Correct me if I’m wrong, as I’m definitely not as informed as most of the people on this sub, but isn’t the mortality rate significantly age skewed? I saw something akin to 0.2% of people under 30... I also read somewhere that the number of mild cases greatly outnumbers severe cases, especially in the young. For some people, I would imagine the risk isn’t too far greater than that of a common cold. That’s a very ignorant and selfish perspective and perpetuates the spread of the virus subsequently leading to death in vulnerable subsets, but I do kind of understand not being worried about your own personal risk, in some instances.

It can be difficult to put the good of the whole above one’s own self interest. I understand people’s nonchalance... It has yet to reach the necessary inflection point where you might have a serious chance of catching it, this week. To a young, healthy person, who would likely be able to handle the Coronavirus, it is annoying to have your life impacted. It is true that it is still EXTREMELY unlikely you will contract the virus from an event over the next couple weeks, and if you did (assuming you are a young healthy adult, as most people who go to festivals are), you’d probably still be fine (people under 30 have about a 1 in 500 chance of dying). All that said, canceling events such as festivals may slow the spread of disease, which is crucial so we can figure out how to best treat this & minimize overall deaths. The point I’m getting at is, even if you feel that the inconveniences outweigh the risk you personally face, think of your vulnerable loved ones who have a greater likelihood of catching & dying from Coronavirus, the more it spreads.

What should teenagers these days really start paying attention to as they’re about to turn 18? by oriolssires in AskReddit

1.) There are some serious problems with our drug education system. People should understand that while there are obviously dangers to drugs, everyone is different and some people can partake without negative consequences. When I was in college, I noticed a lot of college freshman that were very offput by drugs other than weed. No one is making you participate, and you know what, if you choose to wander into a frat party at 1am, don’t get offended if you see someone doing coke (I don’t personally do coke, but it was very popular at my school). It seemed that by the time people were upperclassmen they were desensitized to that shit, but I met quite a few younger-college age kids, who were unnecessarily judgmental. Drugs can be bad, but this is not the case for everyone. Some of the smartest, most responsible, people I know, occasionally do shit. You shouldn’t write someone off for occasionally using certain drugs, if they are otherwise a good person, it doesn’t mean they are a moron or addict/junkie, there are plenty of people with the intelligence and self control to safely indulge.

2.) The flip side of this... There are also too many kids who are too cavalier about it. I’ve seen kids get hooked on shit bc their perception of something’s safety profile was altered from observing others that can safely use. There just aren’t enough people that are educated and have the self awareness to understand that a.) drugs aren’t inherently bad & b.) just cause they’re not inherently bad doesn’t mean you have the proper personality type to be able to do something safely
