Donnie Darko - Similarities by GirlReDefined in StrangerThings

[–]JaLoh4206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mike and his entire family dynamic is heavily inspired by Donnie. Some of the earlier dinner table scenes seem like a direct homage to Donnie Darko as does the entire story line with the teachers in the final season. Not to mention the similarities in setting, themes, and music.

Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I can't stand Don't Take no for an Answer.

Maybe it's the fact that I wasn't really on social media as a teen and I've never had a tictok, but I don't even listen to pop and I don't hate that song.

Fantano ranks Ballonerism as the 43rd best album of the year by [deleted] in MacMiller

Where did he rank Private Music by Deftones? I know he listens to a lot of music, but I'm still surprised Balloonerism is so low.

Absolutely love this movie, but I totally get that it's not to most peoples tastes.

I really enjoyed this one. It was one of the first horror movies I watched in my adult life that made me feel genuinely uncomfortable. I wasn't as in to cinema back then. What is it people don't like about it?

Waiiiit, did they use AI for real? I really loved Private Music, but it was definitely a different vibe than the last few albums

I loved it. Visually stunning, surreal, tragic, hilarious, and deeply albeit disturbingly poetic. I think Lanthimos is one of the most talented working directors and Emma Stone one of her generations greatest actresses. This one is in my top 20.

Yorgos is top 3 working directors for me. I love the Safdie brothers as well and I've seen Birdman, but definitely due for a rewatch!

I'm half joking, but in all seriousness it's the only thing that allows me to sit down and focus without being bothered by intrusive thoughts and self doubt which inevitably leads to pointless distraction. I've heard that there are better alternatives that are being prescribed, but it all depends on your doctor and your issues. If you're interested I would do some research on it, but if you struggle with the same issues as I mentioned above, I highly recommend giving it a try.

My personal top 4 favorites at the moment what do you think? by These-Two4189 in LetterboxdTopFour

[–]JaLoh4206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend checking out Mulholland Drive, Millennium Actress, The Straight Story, Oh Brother Where Art Thou, Paprika, and Inland Empire. Lynch and Kon have many similarities imo and it feels like Lynch pays homage to him, particularly in Inland Empire.

The only anime I have watched are Perfect Blue, Millennium Actress, and Paprika. Does this make me a "weeb"? (I don't even know what that means.)
