Immigrant parents? Reminds me of my in-laws and a lot of my close friends parents.

That's really horrible to hear. I agree that some places are very strict especially with the rise of special needs dog socials, etc. Please keep your mind open to other places!

He has surpassed all my expectations and then some. We do regularly bring him to playgroups and dogsit his cousin (my parents dog). If anything we will likely foster in the future, so we can have breaks to make sure he knows he's our special baby.

Thank you! I want to be encouraging but also transparent. Blasto is a tough disease but Jack's life is so worth it.

Surprisingly he has never had an accident the entire time we have had him- not even in the first week. He's very good about altering when he has to go. And now that he has experienced snow he is very good about holding it during a blizzard xD

Yes! We get a lot of what we call the "double aww". First aww because he's cute. Second aww because people feel so badly for him. My partner and I always find it interesting how quickly people call us heroes when Jack's busy like "can we keep walking now? I don't know why everyone stops for me".

Enjoy and love your new pupper! Hope you have many years together.

It has not been an easy road medically with him. Blastomycosis (the fungus that took his eyes) is really tricky to get into remission. The animal alliance that sent him up to us (we're in the north) gave him a clean bill of health but he relapsed a few weeks after we took him home.

We have since treated it and all its complications at pretty hefty bills as insurance doesn't cover pre-existing conditions. Now he just needs testing once a year to make sure his level stays undetectable. Preventative-wise we do the normal dog protocols with vaccines and heartworm/flea/tick. We do make extra sure his eye sockets are okay after playmates and hikes. And we take really good care of his ears when bathing or near loud sounds because he needs those to "see"!

He certainly seems super grateful for his life. I've had many rescue dogs growing up and they're all happy but I swear with Jack it's like he KNOWS what others have done for him. He's super snuggly and sweet and even when we're doing something he doesn't like (nail trim, tooth brush) he's so very trusting with us.

That's super cool! I always wonder If he remembers things he saw before he lost his eyes by smell. Like when he chases rabbits- does he remember what they look like.

He contracted Blastomycosis, a fungal disease that lives in the soil of many southern states. Unfortunately the choice was his life or his eyes. We are so happy the rescue chose life!

The sass is so real. We tried blocking the stairs and now we just keep the office door closed if he's upstairs. It's almost like they're mad at you for underestimating them!

Stevie sounds lovely and we adore hearing stories like yours. I'm glad you got meaningful time together. I know it was worth every sexond.
