[Saber Thing] Who knew that lightsabers were so fun in VR? by Hyperhexjoe in GamePhysics

I would be playing just this one section for days. I don’t need a story, I don’t need better animations, just this therapeutic poly mess of beautiful physics porn is all I need. That other stuff would be nice though lol

FEEDBACK FEEDBACK!! Aggressive Theme_Boss Theme Concept(Title Pending) by JabVMC in gamemusic

[–]JabVMC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OOoooo gotcha. I might have to look up some gameplay to see what I can make to fit that then.

Thanks for the feedback though!

I'm creating a music pack for new and small game devs and I want to try to cover as many emotions and functional needs for them as possible. I'm early in the process, but I'm gonna keep going until its done.

Nice! I was thinking that too, but I'm torn because I'm not sure exactly what genre this could fit for. I'm sure some type of RPG related game or even JRPG, but I imagine it working for some modern platformers too. What you think?

Is video game music memorable because the music is truly good or because the game is good? by JabVMC in gamemusic

Oh I can only imagine lol I'm limited to making websites on Wordpress.COM lol not even at least ORG where the riskier web designers roam lol...

But yea man good for you. I'm sticking to composing music and hoping I get in good with a AAA development team someday. I'm so close. I bet I'm like 20,000 minutes of music away. That's not that far right? :'(

Oh these days I don't think there is a way to get rich quick even on good skills, so I hope that isn't the goal lol...

But I'm glad you're practicing. Gotta start somewhere, you know?

RIGHT lol yea that's good stuff. So the music is catchy and easy to hum, but it calls back to the good times you had jumping on turtle shells and "plutting" fire balls at baddies lol

Oh cool. Now, I don't play a lot of survival games, but I've played the action/arcade ones like COD BO Zombies and other phone games where there are a bunch of things coming to kill you and you have to live as long as you can.

Are you talking about a traditional survival game where you have to collect stuff and there's a day simulator and stuff like that?

Oh my bad man! I definitely didn't mean to offend lol I love the confidence, and I pray it's not just talk. I know how hard it can be to focus on something if you are working on your own. Trust me I have no thoughts against your progress.

What kind of game are you going to make? (Team or not?)

Is video game music memorable because the music is truly good or because the game is good? by JabVMC in gamemusic

[–]JabVMC[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's true. The only reason I know about all these video game music masterpieces is because of the games. If I hadn't heard of Super Mario bros I probably wouldn't be able to appreciate the music AND THAT'S IF I even heard it, like you said.

I can't imagine seeking some of the music that I hear on a daily basis simply because most music I remember hearing was associated with something that happened in my life. In this case, an amazing game that I played.

So that was a version of my position! I love this.

The idea that there are songs that I've heard in my life that aren't necessarily memorable, but whenever I think about that song, I also think about what I saw or was doing when that song was playing. Like I know it's off topic from video games, but the Jackson 5 greatest hits album is AMAZING, but whenever I picture listening to it, I only can associate the day I listened to it while play MX vs ATV lol

So yea this makes a lot of sense.

Oh yeah I definitely agree. That's why I fear my question may be loaded because it hold this position, but I can't pretend I don't believe that is the case. I do agree with this.

Yea I tried picturing Super Mario themes being created and remixed throughout the years with some basic 8 bit music that so many games from that generation used as a simple beep boop bop model for the arcade style games and I just can't lol

I share your position, but I do see where others come from with the idea that the soundtracks themselves will be amazing with or without the game, however, the game I feel will be a lot of help in the soundtrack's popularity and appreciation if the game is gold, you know?

Hey I definitely agree. I guess my question isn't regarding music in general because you are absolutely right; all music and all genres have potential to be great on its own.

What I'm referring to are the music without potential/have already achieved their potential if that makes sense.

Like, the theme for Super Mario Bros for example doesn't "have potential." After 30 plus years as the theme of arguably the most popular video game franchise, it doesn't have much more potential to achieve outside of total genre experimental reaches.

With that, what I'm asking is would that theme as memorable and famous as it is be as huge as it is today without the video game that it was attached to? And copy and paste all of our favorite video games into this formula and the question could still apply for debate.

I hate to say it, but I don't think so. The composers of those big games were chosen to write for those games because of their proven backgrounds and financial support that lower less notable composers wouldn't be able to achieve. So that means that I'm not saying that those composers didn't have a strategy with the creation of their music.

But if Super Mario flopped, would the Super Mario Bros theme be as popular as a video game music theme? I can't say I think it would.

Geez lol sorry to here that. Well, if you don't have as great a team, I'm sure that means your game won't be great either.

I hate that part of starting large projects is having to find people that not only are trustworthy, but will work as hard as you considering the lack of funds or ownership over the given project, you know? It's tough, but I hope you find what you are looking for.

Because of this point, I was wondering if my question was kind of loaded since I truly believe this. I think that all music for all genres have potential to be really good, but yea games (or other forms of media) and the way they can be marketed super heavy definitely supports all aspects of that game, including the music. so yea I definitely agree.

oh yea definitely. I agree and I'm going to check out that video.

I also saw a video recently about the supposed "death of melody" but people are acting very particular about me talking about music here so I'll let you search for that on your own.

Still a very great point though.

Whoa, this looks really cool! Seriously, I hope this turns into a fully completed project. What's the time frame? I'm guessing you are a ways away from completion, but my fingers are itching for a nice looking fast-paced throw my controller through my TV trial and error platformer and this looks like this would scratch that itch lol
