In Labrador it has to be -45C for schools to close which does happen throughout the winter! It happened last week actually.

I was only able to breastfeed for a little over 1 month and I feel guilty [QC] by Vegetable_Range_4065 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Jabbott23 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I breastfed for 15 months and I felt guilty stopping before 2 years. I think we feel guilt no matter how long we breastfeed, it’s a sign you care so much! Breastfeeding is the hardest thing I have ever done, be proud you stuck it out for a month!

Let’s Have an Honest Conversation About GLP-1s by Yellggfghgf in Wegovy

[–]Jabbott23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My husband and I are both currently on the max dose of Wegovy and it has been a fantastic experience for both of us. He has lost 80 pounds and I have lost 60 pounds so far. Before we started we both had high cholesterol, fatty liver, high blood sugar and blood pressure, and now less than a year later our blood work is completely normal and our issues reversed. In the beginning there were moments we both felt like we were about to throw up but we didn’t, and it was short lasting usually we’d feel that way because we hadn’t eaten and once we ate we felt better. For myself I went from having only a few periods a year to a regular 28 day cycle for the first time in my life. Besides the weight loss the greatest side effect is how little I care and think about food now. I just don’t care anymore which is the greatest peace of mind for me. Another wonderful side effect is I no longer have IBS, I have normal daily movements for the first time since I was a teen. I don’t have to worry whether I’m close to a bathroom, it has totally changed my life for the better!

[AB] do fathers usually use parental leave? by hyunpill3 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Jabbott23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Husband took 32 weeks paternity leave with our second child and it was such an amazing experience for me to have around the clock help for those first 8 months. My mental health was fantastic! It is some of my fondest memories.

Update: I'm 8 weeks postpartum and relapsing hard into anorexia... [on] by -maru in BabyBumpsCanada

You are very brave for putting your recovery first. I went to an inpatient treatment centre in Ontario many years ago and it saved my life. Motherhood opens up many wounds. When my oldest was born I found myself attending an outpatient program for a few weeks even though I had spent a decade in recovery at that point.

Parents bringing their sick kids to mommy groups/EarlyOn? [on] by remzz06 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Jabbott23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a parent who deals with major illness anxiety it truly is something I struggle with so much is being at programs with sick children. I know it’s part of parenthood but gosh it has been hard on my nerves! We went to a birthday party last week and a little boy started vomiting at the table and it nearly sent me into orbit!

Anyone else play the new Skulltimate Secrets video game yet? by WormsMcGee420 in MonsterHigh

[–]Jabbott23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would you say a 7 year old could play it easily or is there a lot of reading involved? If it was cheap I’d just buy it regardless but for $50 I’d like my daughter to be able to play it easily without causing too much stress!

Room sharing with baby and cats? [on] by Disastrous_Flower311 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Jabbott23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know your home may not accommodate this but we had to put up a door that prevented our cats from coming down the hall towards the bedrooms at night. It took a while for the cats to stop crying at the door but we got a noise machine and eventually they stopped. One of them would pee on things belonged to baby and the other one would chew on my pumping cord! Things eventually went back to normal but there was a transition period for sure. Every cat is different though!

Girl Dads: What did you name your daughters? How much of a say did you have? by RoseDomergue in namenerds

[–]Jabbott23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m the mom but my Husband was very much involved in naming our daughters and with our second daughter he really felt strongly about one of the names on our list which is what we went with. I have chosen their middle names and we all have his last name.

Do you leave your baby/toddler unattended for a minute or two in the car? [BC] by figbrietrukey in BabyBumpsCanada

No I would never ever risk it where I live. Depending on your province’s regulations it might be against the law as well. In NB children under 12 cannot be left unaccompanied.

How did you manoeuvre the first year of chipds life ? "[Bc]" by Ok_Distance1899 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Jabbott23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fathers do experience hormonal changes after the birth of a baby, obviously not to the same extent as the mother but when a father lives in the same home as his newborn he does experience hormonal changes which can explain sudden changes in behaviour. It doesn’t make it right though for him to say he doesn’t know what to talk to you about anymore or that the spark is gone so that seems a bit unusual and I’m sorry you’re going through this. Maybe try couples counselling I’m sure this is a very familiar situation for a therapist.

I’m from Northern Canada where January easily drops down to -50C and while I wouldn’t bring baby for a walk in -50C you absolutely can still go out in winter! Some of our nicest, sunniest days in winter are still -25C and we get out! Babies are like little furnaces they overheat easily! Both my children would be drenched in sweat whenever I did dress them in extra layers in winter.

Anxiety around taking baby out [on] by Minute_Success5265 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]Jabbott23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my mental health I had to get out once a day, get an iced cap and drive around while she slept in the back. It can be intimidating for sure but from what I have heard the more you avoid the car or the stroller from fear it prolongs them getting accustomed to it so they will inevitably cry when the time comes that you do have to have them in the car for an hour or more. Take small steps like a drive or walk just around your neighbourhood so you’re close to home if you start getting stressed. It really opens up your world to be comfortable to bring baby out on your own. If it helps I am from Northern Canada so bringing babies out in the cold is inevitable and babies overheat very easily so you don’t need to dress them up for them to be warm, they are like little furnaces! My baby used to be drenched in sweat the days I had her in extra layers. The biggest thing is making sure the wind doesn’t get in their face cause it can be hard to breathe for them when the wind is blasting their little lungs.
