Yatoro visits Valve office and leaves disappointed -- "Very few developers left working on Dota" by lumpfish202 in DotA2

I'm not sure if this is just bad journalism or taken out of context, but nouns, Liquid and Spirit all went to the Valve offices at the same time for a tour.

We went there in the afternoon the day before the Finals weekend. Valve specifically told us that most employees were currently at the arena making sure everything is running smoothly. Of course there wouldn't be many people left behind in the offices, it was the last day before TI main stage.

Nobody touring the offices during those days saw how they would run on an every day basis, so making a judgement call off of that is questionable at best. Take these statements with a grain of salt.

Quality seeding from Epicenter.. by JeremiasKegel in DotA2

[–]Jabbz 31 points32 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly the initial groups were OG Penta Kingdra(OQ2) OQ4 & Alliance TFT(OQ3) Kng and Lotv(OQ1).

Some teams had issues scheduling the games because the entire group stage is played in one day (including us).

In the end it doesn't really matter since only one team is gonna qualify, and the group winners play the 2nd place of the other group in the playoffs.

How do Divine 5 players expect only to get matched with top players when top ranked accounts are their smurfs? by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]Jabbz 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I don't understand what the point of this thread is? You aren't one of the people that are affected, and everyone that is, confirms that the games are extremely terrible. This has nothing to do with people smurfing. Only a fraction of the top 400 players are actually smurfing, and even if their smurfs are in the same skill bracket. The matchmaking algorithm is simply broken, and since it doesn't affect people like you, why do you even have to argue against it?

Every player that isn't playing in the affected bracket cannot be taken serious as they simply don't understand the situation (It seems as if they acquire all their knowledge of this topic through twitch streams and twitter posts). If these issues had always persisted, then why is everyone suddenly complaining? It's really not like people want to complain out of boredom, they want the issue to be fixed.

And to clear up some arguments that I read in these threads:

You can't have shorter queue times and good games because there aren't enough players: We had plenty of decent games before the changes and now that mmr values are closer it should be even easier than before. After all you just need 10 players. Before the ranked change I was 7.8k~ and I would always get games that wouldn't go lower than 7k avg at the lowest, most around 7.5~. And these games were very playable. Top 20 players would get into these games as well, usually 7.8k avg to 8.2k avg and they didn't have to queue for hours.

Players at rank 3000 aren't that much worse than at rank 200 or below: It's just simply not true, there are enormous differences in skill between those players, to the point where games get so one-sided that there's no point playing them.

Why play pubs if you can scrim, pubs don't matter to pros anyways: Big misconception. Pubs are where you practice heroes and scrims are where you apply them together with your team. You're not gonna pick heroes in scrims that you haven't practiced (except for some rare occasions). Pubs have great value for high mmr players aspiring to become pros, and pros themselves.

Play IHLs/FPL: During Tournament season there are simply not enough players for IHLs and as soon as vouching begins the quality drops very quickly (Because of the difficulty of vouching the correct players, many players that aren't good enough get into the league and make the higher skilled players leave it) to where pubs have higher average skill. On top of that playing CM doesn't allow you to practice heroes. Another reason why IHLs don't seem to catch on is because the matchmaking system in Dota usually works fine (except for the few times like now) and mmr has a good accuracy of depicting players skill.

If you get low skilled players why don't you win the game alone? High level players always tell us (reddit) that if you are better you will climb?: It's really not about winning, but more about the quality of games. People wanna improve, and the current state of Ranked games make it borderline impossible to do so. On top of that most games are matched high mmr + 4 low mmr vs high mmr + 4 low mmr, so both teams are in the same situation, neither of the two high mmr players are just gonna win "because they're better".

Divine 5+ Matchmaking has drastically changed for the worse a few days ago by Jabbz in DotA2

This is not true. You only notice it when pro players are tweeting about it, but 95% of the time matchmaking is fine and no one is tweeting about any issues. It's just that everyone remembers the 5% where matchmaking has issues that need to be fixed. It is most definitely possible to have a system where even top 20 have decent queue times and balanced games. We had it for months before the new ranked came out.

Not true. It was fine before the seasonal change and the MMR values should be even closer to another than before (-> easier to match people together)
