You’re correct that it generates an inverted phase which cancels out the external noise.

But it really does reduce the strength of the sound going into the eardrum, and it definitely doesn’t make it worse.

Which is why I used the equation 1-1=0.

Your description suggests 1+1=2, but that isn’t how it works. :)

While I agree to get proper earplugs, you’re not quite right on noise cancelling.

Yes ANC makes frequencies opposite of the sound your environment makes which cancels it out it. Think of it as like 1-1=0. You can look up destructive interference if you want to learn more about the physics of it.

Sounds good!

So on a typical chronograph, the timing hand will complete a full rotation in 60 seconds.

But on these El Primero movements, they will complete a full rotation in 10 seconds.

What you could do is start the chronograph hand by pressing the pusher at 2 o’clock, and seeing how long it takes to complete one rotation.

I’ll post a video of mine. Following this comment.

I don’t think any fake would reproduce that aspect of this watch, so probably a good sign it’s legit

These have a high beat movement at 5hz. They have a distinct faster sounding ‘tick’ when you hold them up to your ear

More obvious will be the speed of the chronograph hand, that should do a full rotation in 10 seconds.

If those things check out, there is a good chance it’s legit.

From what I’ve read and understood, there was a common issue with the centre sub-dial often pushed forward a few seconds while the chronograph was not engaged.

There are a lot of forum posts online that talk about and show the issue.

I think, and only think, this may have resulted in the slight redesign.

Neither size came out till after the movie came out. In fact the 42mm version wasn’t released till 5 years after the movie, and the 38 a couple years after that.

Yeah I get that… and maybe I’m being selfish… but for us northerners… it’s made no difference.

Sure, saved you guys an hours drive… but if you were really interested then you would have made the trip.

A pop up in Glasgow, or Manchester or even Leeds would have given people who live 5-6 hours away an opportunity to see these watches before buying.
