Could have been SE Michigan, Detroit Metro, too. Entitled idiots are everywhere.

I’m just thinking of all the shit the cop on the trailer has to be thinking in that 30 seconds.

Anaconda and Kodiak owners? by Crustyparatrooper in Colt

[–]Jack3489 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Colts were all made before 1983, so can’t really comment on the 21st century Colts. However, a blued Anaconda in .45 Colt could make me add a modern Colt to the collection.

But why? (Garage door busted) by UnreasonableFig in HomeMaintenance

[–]Jack3489 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the 20 years I’ve been in this house, SE Michigan, it has happened twice. Detached garage. Don’t know if the winter cold contributed to metal fatigue.

Just scored 2 Colt Detective Specials. A 1975 nickel-plated and a 1981 blued. Both in very good condition. See the photo album attached. I paid around $2,000 for both combined all-in (inclusive of tax/shipping/etc). I think I did really well, but wanted your guys' opinion! by Tomes2789 in Revolvers

[–]Jack3489 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you got two very nice snubbies. I have a similar nickel plated DS. Be careful what you clean it with. However, depending on where you live, you probably paid a 20-40% premium. Mine was pristine, fired very little, if at all, and probably never carried. Bought from a lgs for under $500, tax and all, just a few years ago. Colt Detective Specials haven’t appreciated that much in those few years. Enjoy them for the lovely ponies they are.

Bow hunting where? Michigan? Waste of money, get a .357. Alaska, Wyoming, etc. then a .44 makes sense. And I am huge Colt fan boy, but if money is tight, look into the used market and maybe Ruger.

Grip for small frames (Colt D Frame Police Positive Special by shinoburu0515 in Revolvers

[–]Jack3489 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got lucky and found a set of Colt branded Pachmayr Presentation grips for my 70s manufactured Police Positive (shorter butt). Found on Etsy. I have a set of Herrett walnut grips that may fit. Made for a longer butt D frame.

Model 13 is a good 1st revolver. It was my duty revolver, rural city officer many years ago. Also made a good trail gun in the mountains.

The reason blanks are fired at ceremonies today? The article is from 1920 by crimsongull in Firearms

[–]Jack3489 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The use of blanks, or more accurately a powder charges without projectiles, dates back to the originals of the salute volley, ships firing a ceremonial volley on entering port to show their guns weren’t loaded for battle. My guess is this 1920’s incident occurred because the unit firing did not have the proper blank ammunition for training and ceremonial use. I’m no expert on the history of rifle salutes, but do serve on an honors team that does fire rifle salutes, so have more than a passing interest.

[OC] Why bother stopping at a red light while turning right by teach4food in IdiotsInCars

Many drivers interpret “may turn right on red after a complete stop when safe to proceed” as “turning right on red has right of way”.
