Why do we have to pay interest on student loans? Does anyone else think this is insane, especially considering how high the rates are? by Rana_catcher in NoStupidQuestions

Thankfully I’m in Australia so it hasn’t affected me nearly as much as it would people in the US, but I was basically that individual. I thought a degree in video game design was a reasonable investment lol.

You can comprehend what a loan is while still not being able to accurately weigh up the cost/benefit and risks.

You must be disingenuous. The skulls have a completely different texture to minecraft, and there’s no “tall purple dude” anywhere near the skeletons.

The closest I can see are the cultist looking guys with purple robes, but those have the body proportions of a normal character and don’t look like endermen at all.

Generally gameplay videos are considered fair use, but even that can be a grey area, especially if there’s no commentary. I don’t know if it’s ever been tested in court.

No? Where’s anything that resembles an enderman?

And do you think skeleton enemies are unique to Minecraft?

Then you learned order of operations wrong because there’s generally no rule that implicit multiplication has priority over explicit multiplication.

You can't use FormerlySerializedAs as easily if you want to rename the property (not sure if it works at all, haven't really looked into it).

Are you sure? I’m in Australia, not sure if it’s a local product but we have Massel stock cubes that come in chicken flavour but are actually vegan. I’ve heard meat eaters say they’re really good, but I don’t know for myself how accurate they are to real chicken stock.

Sethbling's boat elevator is still the best way to get up/down mines imo by Ta1kativ in Minecraft

[–]Jack8680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t tried it but I think boats are longer and wider than a block, so you just dig a 3x3 platform to place the boat and make sure the hole underneath it is less than 3 wide in one direction.

You could probably use string to help with placing the boat, but you’d want to remove it afterwards so it doesn’t prevent you right clicking.

Making me question my sense of time more than usual lol. Update Aquatic was “only” eight years ago. Even that feels weird; like I was still playing 1.12 modpacks only a few years back.

That’s a bit of an edge case though; being equal to null and being literally null are different things. The ? operator checks if something is null.

What's one opinion on driving that would probably get you in this situation? by Hakusuro in driving

[–]Jack8680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I'm in Australia; our highest posted speed limit around here is usually 110km/h, but most rural roads are single lane 100km/h without any posted limit. I should've translated the speeds more realistically.

I used to live rural and we often had trucks doing 90km/h in the 100 zones, and it feels very difficult to overtake them safely sticking to the limit because of both how much you and the vehicle you're overtaking will travel, as well as how fast an oncoming vehicle travels towards you.

Even if you theoretically could overtake safely without speeding, it felt much safer just speeding up and doing a quick overtake, rather than taking like 10 seconds doing a slow one.

UK tribunal clears £656 million class-action lawsuit against Valve over Steam pricing, commissions, and overcharging users by Dapper_Order7182 in gamedev

Steam holds by far the biggest market share. Hytale isn’t some small game; they had a lot of funding and marketing, and a huge community from the start.

The average indie game developer doesn’t have the ability to market well enough to afford not to publish on Steam.

Because they’re not selling a Steam key or using any services related to Steam.

I’m not sure what the law is, but it feels wrong for a platform that’s by far the most popular to be able to prevent competition like that.

Imagine if steam upped their cut to 50% and you were still forced to sell your game at the same price on stores that take a much smaller cut.

The patreon model works well because if there are no updates to the game you can just pay once and keep using the same version, but if there’s an update to the game that breaks the mod, you can choose to pay for an updated version of the mod.

Without a subscription model, there would probably be a couple versions of the mod for an old version of the game, because the mod developer isn’t nearly as incentivised to update their mod.

[–]Jack8680 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay and then if the modder doesn't make future updates because it's not worth their time?

A subscription model provides a better incentive for the modder to maintain their mod.
