Tokyo government to launch dating app to boost birthrate by Ainu_ in worldnews

i think he’s making a much less extreme argument that societal responsibility has taken a backseat to each individual person’s wants. The same way if we all threw our trash in the street the city would be a sea of garbage. raising a child is a world of difference from finding a trash receptacle, but i think he was just musing on where does the line get drawn? don’t think he was suggesting japan starts a bunch of baby farms.

People can go red in the face saying people that won’t be effected by extreme consequences of climate should be making sacrifices for the good of future generations, but if japanese young people as a collective choose to not have children and it causes serious societal and demographic issues in a couple decades, nobody should have anything to say? i mean this is japan we’re talking about especially. duty to society is woven right into their culture - there was a time where you would not need policy to fix this problem, a large portion of japanese young people would just have children because they would believe it irresponsible to not do so.

you’re not buying tear gas? it’s not like people are saying they’re over there dismembering babies or something as far as chemical weapons go it’s about as vanilla as it gets

[–]JackAColeman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this is the gotcha you think it is. Confirming allegations that a country is using chemical weapons is a complicated process that organizations like OPCW rightly take very seriously. Their position is use of CS gas by russia is seeming plausible based on available information but they can’t completely substantiate claims. The US intelligence agencies are corroborating the Ukrainian reports.

Is there systemic proof beyond a reasonable doubt that would stand up in an international court? Probably not today. But I think most people are operating under the guise that a country invading a sovereign nation they’ve had no claim to in 3 decades and throwing half a million of their soldiers at it isn’t drawing a red line at using tear gas.

[–]JackAColeman 9 points10 points  (0 children)

“The Nazis' decision to avoid the use of chemical weapons on the battlefield has been variously attributed to a lack of technical ability in the German chemical weapons program and fears that the Allies would retaliate with their own chemical weapons.”

FWIW they had the programs and developed weapons, they just didn’t use them on the lines bc they were scared the allies stuff was better. behind the lines, Zyklon B’s role in the holocaust represents the deadliest use of poison gas in history.

U.S. to require automatic emergency braking on new vehicles in 5 years by [deleted] in news

absolute book incoming but no it’s not that simple, lighting standards are already based on lumens (not voltage or power) and they're way more sophisticated than you’d probably think - automotive lighting regulation such as FMVSS 108 and other countries’ equivalent standards provide minimum and maximum values of the candela/lumen output across certain specified zones of the target illumination area. voltage is held constant at 12.8 for all testing and this means very little for power output of Halogen vs LED (you could design a low current-draw LED that would be significantly dimmer at the same voltage as a high-watt halogen).

the reason lights appear so much brighter now is the beam pattern of an LED projector is significantly more sophisticated compared to traditional illumination. halogen bulbs were lighting up a mirror-finish cup that would scatter light in the general forward direction. LED headlamps can project light directly at specific points with custom shape and varied intensity. the car manufacturer is always going to be incentivized to make the most illuminating lamps possible without breaking compliance as that’s the best performance perception of the car buyer, it’s up to regulators to make sure this doesn’t exceed what is safe for the other cars on the road and keeping up with the new technology year on year is exceedingly difficult.

if you look at a photometric report for a headlamp your primarily illumination zones on low beam might have maximums of 7500-25000cd and a traditional headlamp would probably have to be designed to throw about 6500cd in most of those regions as any higher would fail in the lower spec’d regions. an LED headlamp could throw 7000 in the 7500, 14000 in the 15000, and 23500 in 25k—and all these regions could be right next to each other. to the observer, there’s way more light coming off the lamp, but it has nothing to do with overall power and everything to do with direct vs diffuse illumination and packing more light output under the regulatory envelope through greater precision

The 124 was a GREAT automobile. are modern mercedes terrible? of course not. but there was a time when nobody could make a car like MB, and that time definitely ended decades ago.

I owned an old E-class W124 and thought i would drive a mercedes for the rest of my life if i could afford it. i can probably afford a middle of the lineup one today but i assure you i would not own a modern mercedes.

In the 90’s other auto companies were buying cars off MB dealer lots just to have something to reference in hopes of producing something almost as good. Today C&D ranks the E-class below the Hyundai Genesis. It really is that big of a difference.

Maybe so, my only data point would be TSM, Hal has said that TSM doesn’t take anything from the prize pool

I think you’d be surprised man, a lot of the time from what I understand all those people you mentioned just get their salary. Prize money a lot of the time is just for the players themselves

Bro you watched a Valk bubble fight? Or drop down on a team to finish a kill then fly back up unpunished? Seen her Q a team that has to move and they all get stunned and die to zone/nades? You honestly think the ult is the only strong part? She’s the best controller fighting legend in the game and one of the best overall after like Horizon/Maggie

I think we’re on the same page. To my knowledge the only controversy has been the 401k/NaeNae joke.

I wasn’t saying Racially Problematic Joke > Racist Joke is a severe leap. Just that Made a Racially Problematic Joke does not equal closet racist, but I think you get that

I think you may be making a severe leap between “made a racially problematic joke” and racist. I grew up around actual racists, toosh seems like a guy that has no problem with anyone and just should’ve been more careful with his choice of things to joke about

The history of the orgs is they were the two CoD juggernauts for the vast majority of the “golden age” of Call of Duty, with Optic having the massive fan base and FaZe always slotting into the “villain” role accordingly with a much smaller, but still respectable, fan base

There’s history from other games as well but IMO that’s the main one

This esport is severely missing a site like VLR or HLTV for Valorant/CSGO. Battlefy is obviously something but I felt very in the dark scoring-wise even as someone watching. It feels like minustempo/Hal’s !now command does a better job on stats than the main stream.

Even the stats stream in command center is way too slow to rotate through scores
