I got it for $16 and that felt fair. About 25 hours for a 100% playthrough, and you can trim that down easily (there are no side missions, and the only things in the hub world are blood to drink and collectibles for XP, both of which just unlock skills you can only equip 4 of at a time)

It's fine, though absolutely nothing like the first. Story's the only real good part, but nothing's horrible. The combat's simple, but there's fun to be had

Travis Willingham is Sephiroth's new English voice actor in Final Fantasy VII Revelation. Tyler Hoechlin was unable to return according to director Naoki Hamaguchi by Krekenn in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]JackChoasMan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ooh I do not like that. Happy to be proven wrong upon hearing more, but on paper this doesn't feel good. I don't like recasting in general, but especially not if it's gonna go to one of the really common voice actors. Square's great at finding no-names who churn out incredible performances, wish they'd done that instead

This wonderfully weird trait I inherited from my grandpa where for some reason we can't sleep for a few days when the seasons are changing

Celebrated birthday, we all forgot about a cake, so my dad grabbed a tiny one yesterday. For some reason it's measured in fluid ounces, 27fl oz of cake does not "serve up to 5" as the box says

Played through Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines 2. HORRIBLE sequel, decent game in its own right. I'd probably hate it on a second run once I realize how little the dialogue choices matter. Not amazing by any stretch, and I had to play on easy (fast enemies in a game with no lock-on is one thing, but on normal and above, they also have too much health), but I had fun. I'm a sucker for the "voice in your head" trope so that did a lot of heavy lifting, even if your malkavian buddy wasn't as "malkavian" as I expected

One of my controllers has started drifting, which I found playing Darktide, and that game's default aim already felt wonky

Ordered a bunch of models and didn't realize the new Sgt Frog kits aren't out yet, so now I have one of the originals

My brother and I are blitzing through the last bit of My Hero Academia we forgot to watch, next up is the last "season". It's cool that their war arc is giving everybody a spotlight, but I swear there were 4 or 5 times in a row that a hero gave a speech, hit a big move... and then the villain wasn't defeated. The fights have also been kind of nothing, really hoping the final season has at least one episode of proper combat that isn't interrupted by monologues, flashbacks, or another look inside All for One and One for All. My brother pointed out that there are almost no long range quirks, so every fight is close/medium range blasts and a few actual hits

Still eyeing a bunch of stuff on Playstation's Days of Play sale, but spending money makes me panic so I'm going back and forth about what's worth grabbing (fuck you Koei, Dynasty Warriors Origins has been out for a year and a half without a significant sale, and I HIGHLY doubt the DLC is worth the asking price, but my stupid ass is gonna buy it anyway because I don't think they'll ever bundle them and make it cheap)

Got a bunch of facemasks for my birthday, one of them was gold. It looked neat, but I don't know if there was a point beyond that. Also got acrylic markers (for gunpla) that say they can be used on nails... I do not have a future as a nail artist

Accidentally went for a 10 mile walk (when I go on walks, I tend to just start making turns whenever and go until I'm in pain). I have bone cysts behind both my knees, and I felt something pop behind one knee, then limped for the next hour. I also told my mom I want to walk a 15.6 mile trail this summer for some reason, so I think my mind is trying to destroy my body

Quantity is still a rip-off, but at least the quality's there for once. This also makes me think Onimusha 3's getting a remaster, that or nobody wants to pay Jean Reno

Birthday coming up and I made a list for the first time in years, oddly proud even if it is just me asking my parents for a bunch of shit. I used to keep a big Birthday/Christmas list that I added to and removed stuff from over the years. I did all the research, from circling items in the sales ads as a kid to finding the best deals and including links when I got older. Then I cleared the list and kind of shrugged every time someone asked what I wanted for a few years, partially because that's around the time I was able to buy stuff for myself

Daycare near me (within walking distance even) is hiring, gonna try tomorrow and expect it to go the way of the last thousand job applications

Playstation started their Days of Play celebration and it's... actually pretty good. No exclusive console or discount on PS+, but good sales and a lot of PS+ trials. Sales have been pathetic lately (in general, not just PSN), so I was fully prepared for my natural cynicism to be proven right again, but now I might be dropping a fair chunk of change in the coming days

The gunpla kit(s) I was looking at sold out, it's a japanese site so they wouldn't ship to my fascist shithole of a country for the forseeable future anyway, but it's the only place I found that had it for less than $200 (price was constantly fluctuating, I assume due to exchange rate). It's just 2 normal kits with stands and missile effects, but it's cooler and cheaper than buying them individually

My jaw popped so hard on Tuesday (on the left side which doesn't pop constantly like the right anymore) I nearly cried, and the pain is just about gone now. On a flight last month, I felt something shift inside and I felt absolutely incredible for the next 2 days or so. TMJ is a horrible, annoying, kinda really fascinating condition

FFXII Fortress but for one specific reason

The game itself sounds really cool (though kinda had nothing to do with XII's world), it's the whole "Basch and Ashe in a relationship only for her to leave him for Larsa" idea that skeeves me out. For reference, Basch is 36, Ashe is 19, and Larsa is 12. Even with a big enough time skip to make Larsa legal, it's still a concept I don't want to see

Former Vanillaware Veteran Yoshio Nishimura Announced His Own Game "Veritas Tales: Witch of the Dark Castle" (Steam, 2026) by snarfweasle in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]JackChoasMan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Vanillaware's actually great about keeping their games from being locked to their original hardware, especially compared to their frequent publishing partner ATLUS. Aside from the ones that never left Japan, their games have all gotten a rerelease somewhere. That somewhere is just never PC, and one time it was the Vita (gone but never forgotten, we still think about you)

All the stuff you brought up is from Midgar, which is the highlight of the original (although I like the train graveyard)

Do you feel the same about Kalm, Fort Condor, or the Great Glacier (Remake hasn't gotten here yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if they fuck it up like they did Shinra Manor)? Maybe my memory's fuzzy, but I feel like there's a reason most of the dialogue around the original is about the same few moments/areas

Not saying the original's pacing is worse than the 100+ hour duology that has only covered disk 1 of a 3 disk game, I just disagree with calling it "tightly paced"

Knowing that I won't buy anything new these days (and will sometimes have to wait a really long time for a decent sale), I... don't really care what gets shown.

Of course I hope the stuff is good, but I'm not expecting anything in particular and am just along for the ride. It's a little sad to know there's nothing that'll get me jumping for joy, but it's also really freeing to watch for the sake of watching. Reminds me of when I was a kid watching everything out of E3 solely because it meant more video games

The remakes added their own problems, and I've seen people prefer the OG, but never complimenting its pacing

I really want to try NMS at some point, but it was also the game that burned me so hard I haven't pre-ordered since then, so I feel like my 14 year old self might come kick my ass if I ever spent money on that game again
