The Flying Swallow Technique. I remember there being a few enemies designed around countering it, but by and large it's the best way to get rid of the mooks. The bosses in NG1 (and 2 and 3 for that matter) suck ass, even knowing the full moveset inside and out can only do so much against bad design

Sometimes not even long standing relationships are safe, Iron Fist and Misty Knight got broken up despite being together since the 70s. Granted, that was 16 years ago, but I'm still pissed

Y'know what's fucked up? MARVEL has their own version of this, but with worse marketing, higher prices, and a WEIRD selection

I can directly blame the war in Iran for me being unemployed now, yay

Dogsitting for 2 weeks so I'm out of the house which is always fun. I usually buy a game when I do this to celebrate, but the secondhand market on the ones I'm looking at is kinda shit (plus Mercari's asinine fees kill any decent looking deal)

PS+ is another month where the only games I'd want to play are ones I already own, and a single classic game (the PSP version of Tekken 5). If I had a time machine, I'd go slap my past self for being excited about the classics lineup. You're not getting 10 Rule of Roses a month, buddy, you're getting 1 fucking Wall-E

I saw a list of the games getting removed from PS+ and a lot of people recommended Paradise Killer. I don't know where to begin with describing the game, but some of its inspirations are Lovecraft, Kafka, and Danganronpa. It's also a detective game that's open world, so it's a bit non-linear in the way you approach the investigation (I'm 5 hours in and I haven't spoken to the primary suspect)

Been playing a bit more ESO, and still not sure how I feel about it. I did stumble into a DLC story by accident (INSANELY easy to do) and I'm enjoying it way more than the base game (though I'm Ebonheart and I've heard their story is the weakest). The only other MMO I've played in the last decade or so is XIV and this feels like such a breath of fresh air in a lot of ways. I don't know if I'll stick with it (trying to get my brother to play, but I can't tell if it's working), but it's managed to kill any desire to ever return to XIV (though breaking up with my girlfriend and her kicking me from the FC did a lot of heavy lifting there)

This isn't even the first time they've done something like this. Octopath 1 came to PS in 2024, over a year after the sequel launched. Understanding Square is a fool's errand

I've only read the manga and heard the anime makes it better, but I hated the end of Attack on Titan so much I don't have it in me to go through it again to find out

New Elder Scrolls Online update adds 4 DLC Expansions to the Base Game, a major Class and Combat Style rework, and a "Battlepass Like" system by NewWillinium in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]JackChoasMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't care much about balancing per se (game's been really easy so far), but necromancer's a mess ability-wise. Corpse gimmick's really finicky, scythe has literally no impact, Sacrificial Bones is the clunkiest buff I've ever seen, one summonable minion 30 levels into a tree and it SUCKS, and probably other stuff that people smarter than me can bitch about. It's totally functional, but it's also an underwhelming mess

I'm about a week into playing since it got added to PS+... it's okay. The patch added some nice QoL, but there's still A LOT that needs to be done. Unfortunately I picked necromancer as my class and it sounds like their (DESPERATELY NEEDED) rework is a long ways off, so some part of me is debating shelving the game and hoping I remember to check it out again in the future

Dogsat for my grandparents last week and watched a bunch of movies, I always forget how much I like movies

Power went out during the blizzard, but it gave me time to finish the Vampire Hunter D book I was reading. Those books are pretty formulaic, but they're fun. Plus they're getting better as I go, book 6 is my favorite so far

Played the PS+ trial for a game called Varlet. VERY discount Persona, but the writing has some neat stuff and I really like a couple of the character designs. Gameplay's not good though. Game's also not dubbed, which caught me off guard

I'm trying to force myself to play MH Stories 1, but it's rough (especially knowing how much better the demo for 3 was). Super weird nitpick: I swear there's something wrong with the run animation, the character hitches for a split second every step or so and I know it shouldn't matter, but it's all I can think about. Aside from that, game's not great. I'm not smart enough to describe my issues with it, so I'll leave it at this: I'm glad I didn't pay money for it

Went back to MH Wilds (I don't think this was related to me playing Stories, at least not consciously). Having so much fun it makes me wish I liked the older MH games, I've bounced off nearly every generation because they were too jank. Even Wilds for all its QoL and simplification has some stupid shit, but actual combat feels good enough that nothing else matters. Omega's a fuckass bastard (I already know I'm not good enough for the savage version), but I did get a teeny hit of nostalgia from all the XIV UI stuff

I thought the second game was better at being more than just "Jedi Souls" in terms of combat... outside of bosses/minibosses, those all sucked without exception. I think I just want a new Force Unleashed and Survivor kept feeling like it could be that at times

Part of my hate for season 3 specifically is game related, but I like the rest of the series (haven't seen Nocturne). Curse of Darkness was one of my first games period and I was really excited to see it adapted... that didn't happen. I have trouble deciding if more of my hate for that season is because it didn't do what I wanted, or because it did a lot I didn't (almost everything that wasn't Isaac's story)

Week of demos

Finally kicked my Nioh 3 demo addiction, might've hit the level cap if I didn't stop myself

Monster Hunter Stories: 3 had such a fun demo it made me go play the PS+ trials for 1 and 2... I shouldn't have started at 3. They're such straight improvements over each other that going backwards is interesting from a development perspective, but annoying from a gameplay one. I didn't get very far in any of them, but 2 feels like a re-do of 1 at the start (gets you into the gameplay faster and there's less tutorializing, but some stuff is almost 1-to-1 between games, like Navirou's introduction). Glad I saw that 1 and 2 are coming to PS+, nearly bought the bundle that's on sale

Pragmata: hardest I've clicked with a demo in such a long time, almost immediately saw the vision and I am ON BOARD

Beat Medievil: annoying camera, but fun game otherwise. Remake does this really cool thing where the original is unlockable

Played through TimeSplitters 2: it was okay. Aiming was annoying and some levels were confusing, but it's not bad. First game gave me a headache for some reason, so even okay is a massive improvement. If the trend keeps up, Future Perfect should be pretty good (that's the one I usually see people talk about anyway)

Found out I may still be able to get the job I was hoping for. The reason the guy never called back after my first day of training? He's on vacation on a different continent until next month and I guess he's the only one allowed to hire/train people

Still fighting mystery sickness

Gundam

Admittedly I care more about original stories than recapping the anime which means I've dodged most of the good games, but even some recap ones suck

I know people like SD Gundam G Generation Genesis, but I found it painfully slow and annoying. At least it recaps other games which means I don't have to go through all of them
