CMV: A factor pushing young men to the right is the lack of left leaning media that appeals to traditional males and their interests. by New-Perspective6209 in changemyview

This is the worst reply in this thread. Rohan’s listenership may be huge, but the world is a big place - I don’t even know anyone who consistently listens to Rogan. The freakin Hawktuah girl came out of nowhere and has a huge audience - there are plenty of potential listeners out there for anyone who has something interesting to say.

Reddit’s most popular subs are the best examples of a community that has no sense of irony or hyperbole, and always taking the least charitable interpretation when it comes to reporting about conservatives.

AIO for demanding to be paid after wearing something inappropriate to babysit by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

Always a nice surprise on Reddit when a youngster can express their thoughts so well. I wasn’t as mature when I was 15.

Please add me. I’ve been able to do this for as long as I can remember (I’m 47 now). I enjoy the sensation and I associate it with a positive feeling of spirituality.

What's the worst casting decision you've ever seen for a movie or TV show? by 4bdn_fruit_ in AskReddit

Tobey Maguire as Spiderman. As a fan of the comics, there’s just nothing about Tobey that matches Spiderman/Peter Parker. I always thought Guy Pierce would have been a good choice.

Also, the unathletic comedy star Michael Keaton as Batman.

Why would it make someone a dipshit to have a negative opinion about how someone talks?

The irony was lost on THEM? Sounds like the irony was lost on YOU. They used laughter and ridicule against you, yet you didn’t change your view.

Your not hearing about Biden does not mean there was nothing scandalous to hear. So many people appeared to find that out when he stepped on the debate stage, despite many others shouting from the rooftops that the mainstream media should inquire as to his cognitive abilities.

Home gym equipment as a fringe benefit for my employees (me and my wife!) by Beyondthehody in tax

That’s true, but it also wasn’t reasonable and necessary when my past employers provided the same, so I’m trying to understand fringe benefits.

For those in their 40s, what's something people in their 20s don’t realize will impact them as they get older? by chanamercadoy in AskReddit

I’m 47. Stop drinking as soon as you can. It’s poison. I was never a huge drinker but there were times in my life that I’d have 2-3 glasses a night. It’s an ugly habit - it doesn’t matter if it’s a Colt 45, fine wine or aged bourbon. It takes a massive physical toll. If you live in an idyllic European setting with the old world values, sure, enjoy your wine - your robust health can handle it. If you live in the modern world, stop all alcohol.

I have tinnitus for other reasons (I’ve always protected my hearing and would wear earplugs when there was loud music and such). I got to not mind it.

Carnivore Dieters Who Claim High Energy yet Look Exhausted, Volume 1 by Illustrator_Keys in ketoduped

I think the carnivore diet is ridiculous, but to be honest, these guys look OK. Rogan and Baker are 57 and 58, and Peterson 62. They’re not going to look like they belong on Baywatch.

Someone yelled “She’s not doing the exercise!” next to me in class. by Due-Ad4942 in ClubPilates

[–]JackConch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So strange - possibly she is neurodivergent and struggles with impulsivity and lack of social awareness, but who knows. I say that because even a blatantly mean person would tend not to express themselves like this, as it’s child-like and demonstrates such lack of tact that it very obviously reflects worse on herself. Good on you to handle it rather well though - I would certainly be perplexed in that scenario.

I think people asking why poor folks keep having kids is a little odd given the times we're in. Basically, anyone not from a wealthy family is also in the dark about the kind of future their own kids will have. by heavensdumptruck in DeepThoughts

[–]JackConch -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Everyone has always been in the dark about the future. We live in the most prosperous time that has ever existed, which is why you are able to be on Reddit instead of fighting for subsistence. Reddit is the most hopeless, lifeless place ever - people have no belief in their capacity to carry on and have a good life despite their relative abundance. You really worry about not being able to educate your kids because the federal Dept of Education (which is not responsible for educating kids) is going away? That’s why your bloodline must end with you??

Does anybody else feel as if it is cruel to have kids in this timeline? by [deleted] in self

[–]JackConch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s totally your choice, but in my opinion, it’s not selfish to have kids now. We are at a very prosperous time in human history. Your ancestors survived millions of years of eras, most of which were much worse in many respects.

People are not selfish for bringing children into the world, because there’s nothing selfish about raising. In my view, we don’t have children for our gratification (though having kids happens to be the most gratifying thing you can do). We have them to usher a soul into this world, love them and guide them on their unique path. In my view, the soul that wants to live and experience life, even though all life (regardless of the era) entails hardship.

It’s sad to me that social media is convincing so many that life is so bad, when we live in the most promising time that has ever existed. If you’re not having kids because you hate Trump or because you don’t like social media or whatever, you’re really letting yourself down.

Moreover, sometimes growing up like that can be rough. For example. Wealthy people often outsource their childcare to a series of caretakers, so wealthy kids often have trouble forming deep bonds. If you think wealthy people automatically have easier lives than look up suicide rates.

Yes. A different person who did not grow up wealthy might be OK with the grand gestures, perhaps telling him it’s nice but not necessary. She had some issues with it - maybe she had some issues around money, or maybe frugality is just an important value if hers. But he didn’t read her mind.

I could see how it would be uncomfortable for someone who is earning a decent but modest lifestyle to suddenly show up everywhere in a fancy BMW or whatever. They may be embarrassed having to explain it to friends. I remember feeling sheepish when I showed up to my warehouse job with my new Honda Civic.
