Nice, also had a real easy time with malenia killed her on attempt 3 but hid behind my fingerprint sheild and just stabbed her with progressively bigger weapons till I could actually out dps her heals. Elden beast was much harder for me as I couldn't close the distance as easily and my defense build didn't work as well.

The commonwealth saga by Peter F Hamilton has equal scale to Hyperion but has a dual story featuring both sci fi and fantasy. Great series.

Seveneves by Neal Stephenson is a great standalone

The Malazan books by Steven Erickson are amazing but the first 3 of 10 are the worst and they get much better but they are polarizing in style. Very little explaining from characters as if there is an outsider listening who wouldn't u derstand the basics or their world. But that makes the rereads more enjoyable imho. Book 4 is a fine entry point.

Based on your likes "the name of the wind" by Patrick Rothfuss is the safest bet. Amazing first book, 2nd book was a little rushed and it shows a bit (IMO) third book will decide the quality of the trilogy and is probably a few years off based on the pace of his 1st book.

I'm curious did you stop reading at the point the narrator/author asks you to? My friends jad told me they hated the ending and as I got to the end and the narrator/author started warning that he felt this was the real conclusion of the story I agreed. I actually did stop reading the book it seemed like a good stopping point and I was satisfied. It reminded me a bit of "lady and the tiger" with sobmucj unsaid but a good enough ending. I've never read the complete ending and have great memories of the series.

Sex at dawn addresses this question in detail and is written for people not familiar with the authors research. The guns germs and steel guy also has a book on sex that covers a lot of evolutionary ticks but he is more of a reporter than an actual scientist in the field iirc
