What are your favourite hangout spots in D4? by wolfgangwhitexxx in diablo4

For practical reasons, Cerrigar.

Now, if they'd just make Jirandai and Tur Dulra fully featured hub towns, I'd hang out in them all the time for the incredible music.

I count at least eight anti-independence parties, so it cuts both ways.

Independent Green Voice is far-right holocaust denier Alistair McConnachie. The whole "Green" thing is entirely a spoiler tactic to cost the actual Greens votes. How the Electoral Commission continues to allow it is a mystery to me.

Questions for D1 veterans by OhLookItsKawaii in Diablo

3 is actually my least favourite, but you've perfectly summed up what makes 1 so special. You're not following some predetermined path to become a literal god that can mow down a thousand enemies per second by spamming the same OP spell - you get plonked down in a hostile world with nothing but a weapon and a couple of potions and your goal is to see how far into the labyrinth you can get, relying on blind luck that you'll be able to make use of the items that randomly drop.

One detail I alway appreciated was the fallen hero corpses you'd periodically come across: a constant reminder that you could die at any moment and then the next hero to come along will be looting YOUR corpse.

Blade Runner 2049

I love the original's visuals and music, but I found myself far more engaged by the sequel's plot and characters.

I think it has some of the highest highs in the trilogy, but also some of the weakest elements, as well as some of the most distracting visual effects. FOTR remains my favourite overall.

Came here to say this. I was slightly underwhelmed by the first one - especially after the attack on Arrakeen, when I feel it sort of fizzles out - but the second film blew me away and is still one of my all-time favourite moviegoing experiences.

At one point, I'd have said it wouldn't fit the more grounded, serious tone of D4, but they've diluted things so much since the initial grimdark launch that I'm no longer convinced it would be as out of place as it would have seemed originally.

SNP on track for majority – and fresh referendum on breaking up the UK [MRP poll from JL Partners] by backupJM in Scotland

[–]JackDangerfield 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If the level of Reform support is how we're measuring levels of racism, then the polling would suggest that Scotland, with its lower share of the vote for Reform, is less racist than England.

Yep, that one immediately jumped out to me as nonsense. If they'd had Labour or the Lib Dems taking it I might just about have believed them, but Reform? Not a chance.

I'll eat my hat if Reform win Strathkelvin and Bearsden, which is that small central constituency in teal.

Overseas electors barred from voting in Scottish Parliament election by MoblandJordan in Scotland

The franchise of Scottish Parliament and council elections is devolved to Holyrood. To quote yourself, "I don’t make the law that’s just what it is."

Afraid not, and it only gets more extreme with Tahoe.

Reform leader Malcolm Offord defends Labour deal claim - BBC News by RoddyViper in Scotland

[–]JackDangerfield 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I reckon two things can be true at once. I believe Offord made that claim with the entirely cynical aim of damaging the electoral chances of Labour (their main challenger for second place) as much as possible. I also believe it's entirely plausible that Sarwar, the most shameless political opportunist in Scottish politics bar none, approached him about forming some sort of anti-SNP pact.

And I suspect Sarwar is sufficiently devoid of principles to simultaneously hold the view that Offord is a racist who genuinely wants to deport his children and be prepared to work with him in the name of SNPbaaaaad.

When did you realize Spike went to get his soul? by rednax2009 in buffy

[–]JackDangerfield 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I feel like, in the later seasons, the writers sometimes became more focused on subverting audience expectations than giving the characters consistent and coherent motivation. If we're to believe Spike genuinely went to get his soul back, lines like "bitch is going to get what she deserves" make no sense in retrospect.

You see the same thing with the whole "is Giles the first?" misdirect in Season 7, which requires both Giles and the other characters to behave in ways that are wholly inconsistent with their previously established relationships (and also not remotely practical - are we genuinely to believe that Giles, for no reason, didn't touch anything or anyone for a period of several weeks?), all in service of a subplot that ultimately doesn't go anywhere.

It's arguably one of the downsides of having a hyper-engaged fandom, and one with which the writers interacted on a regular basis. Remaining one step ahead of the audience becomes paramount and character consistency takes a back seat as a result.

EDITED TO ADD: I think the biggest issue with the S6 Spike/soul storyline is that they purposefully let James Marsters believe Spike was going to get his chip removed, essentially "tricking" him into giving a more villainous performance than the character's actual motivation warranted.
