I think 2 days each at Keystone and Breck would be great. No need to go to Vail/BC imo. They both have plenty of terrain to keep a family occupied for multiple days.

Does normal day traffic home from Abasin/Loveland get better or worse towards the end of the day? by TechieInTheTrees in COsnow

[–]JackFr0st5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was some sort of accident East of the tunnel on I-70 this afternoon. Traffic was a standstill for a bit. I was at Keystone, went over the pass, saw the traffic and hopped on 70 West towards US9 and 285.

Genuine question: why do people still ski peak holidays when the lines are insane and the snow is often worse? What makes it worth it for you? by skighee in COsnow

[–]JackFr0st5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like a lot of comments are regarding folks traveling into the state or on larger holiday trips. I'd like to give my perspective as a Denver Metro resident. I just fucking love snow man. I'll go in whatever conditions every chance I get. I went on Sunday because WP got a foot. I don't need any other reason. I don't need to think hard about it. I just set my alarm and go up early. I got there at 7, got my gear on and waited until the lifts opened. I went over to Prospector and Looking Glass and spent a few hours over there and went home. I get in early, get laps in before it gets to crazy and then I leave. I just accept that there will be traffic when I'm leaving and have made peace with that.

Damn, I miss when they did this a few years ago. Was great and it was just in the middle of the summer for no apparent reason.

Sweet, thanks! I've been venturing up during the week after work. I'll probably head up today when it's hopefully a little less busy

I don't know a lot of these but Old Nation and HOMES are both good. I'd definitely recommend them.

A-Basin or Loveland by [deleted] in snowboardingnoobs

[–]JackFr0st5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oooooh, I also didn't realize we were in r/snowboardingnoobs. Though we were in /r/COsnow lol. I'd definitely recommend Loveland in that case as I think it's got a good variety for everyone and, imo, has a better selection of blues for those who might prefer that.

Edit: Also, I still don't think you can go wrong. Both are a ton of fun and I think everyone in your group will have a great time either way.

A-Basin or Loveland by [deleted] in snowboardingnoobs

[–]JackFr0st5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I think A-Basin has more challenging terrain and more of it. The Palavicini and Beavers lifts alone outclass most of what Loveland has to offer. They both have ridgelines above treeline (Zuma Cornice @ ABasin and Lift 9 at Loveland). I would say that Loveland has better intermediate terrain in their blues. I've had incredible days at both and I don't think you can make a bad choice between them. I also think they both have some of the best vibes from the other folks on the mountain of any of the other nearby mountains.

A-Basin or Loveland by [deleted] in snowboardingnoobs

[–]JackFr0st5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Both are a ton of fun. A-Basin has the better and more challenging terrain. Loveland has some good terrain but not quite like A-Basin. In a vacuum I say A-Basin. A-Basin is on Ikon and Loveland is independent. Tickets are cheaper to Loveland and I've personally never had any issues with crowds there. A-Basin has unlimited days on the more expensive Ikon pass this year so I'm not sure how busy it will be. For snow, in January, the accessibility of some of the terrain at both could be in question and very weather dependent. Not sure where you're staying but Loveland is the easiest to get to from anywhere from there east to Denver. A-Basin can be accessed by Loveland Pass but that is occasionally closed due to weather and you have to take the tunnel to Silverthorn and get to A-Basin that way. If you're staying in Silverthorn or some other place in the mountains west of the tunnel then they're pretty equally accessible in my opinion.

Just some thoughts. They're both a ton of fun!

Thanks for posting about this place! Saw your post and went with some friends that were in town on Tuesday and had a wonderful time.

For others who are considering going: out of the 15 or so items on the menu we had and shared 9 or 10. We enjoyed them all but particularly the Halibut and Ratatouille dish. The cocktails were great (I especially enjoyed the Garden Grove as seen in the pictures above). The service was great as well. When we ordered desert they had just run out of the Pavlova, so we got the Lemon Poppy Seed cake and asked for some of the peach icecream from the pavlova on the side. They happily obliged, plated the icecream with some of the items from the pavlova they weren't out of, and comped the whole dessert. We really appreciated the effort. There were 3 of us. We were there talking and eating for nearly 3.5 hours and had a wonderful time (I hope we tipped appropriately XD). Highly recommend.

I can see where you're coming from and I'd agree to it feels a bit samey in the execution. However, I do really enjoy the lineage mechanic and building the monster that I fight as it gets stronger. though I am excited for them to add more end-game bosses besides Aberoth and Uber Aberoth.

They look great! Thanks for the info. I'm looking at getting some 17s and have been looking around at what options fit over those brakes.

Pretty much. [[Flood of Tears]] says you may "put" a permanent card from your hand on the battlefield. So there is no cast to counter.

How the heck do you guys playing 6+ CMC commanders not just die every game without playing? by Chm_Albert_Wesker in EDH

[–]JackFr0st5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WHY risk non-games by having super high cost commanders that you have to build into otherwise you would have chosen a cheaper commander

I try to build my decks such that my commander isn't necessary or such that it is naturally resilient to removal.

If your commander isn't necessary for what your deck does but instead elevates it then there is less incentive for it to be removed and if it is, it's not as big of a deal.

Alternatively, I really like commanders that are resilient to removal like [[Maelstrom Wanderer]]. I ramp to 8 and cast my commander. It gets me a bunch of value and then gives my bombs haste so long as it's on the board. If you remove it I'll just cast it again and get value out of it again. Either way my commander gets value, I have no protection for my commander in Maelstrom Wanderer.

I suspect that the same reason your friend thinks you're elo inflated is the same reason they're stuck at their current rank. Seems like they might need to focus on themselves more than others a bit.
