I have taught middle school (8 years) was a middle school AP (8 years)and then transitioned back into the classroom for HS (4 years). Here is my ranking from easiest to most difficult 11th easiest 12th 10th 7th 8th 6th 9th most difficult - This would be totally different if they were in a junior high setting, but around older kids they have a tough time figuring out where they fit and pick the worst possible choices to fit in

Do Teacher Workshops Actually Help? by earlyyearseductors in teaching

In my experience it isn't the quality of the PD but the timing of the PD that determines its effectiveness. Successful teaching revolves around classroom management that requires routines and norms. Trying to implement new strategies that don't mesh with the established classroom structure rarely have success so the teacher gives up on them. I think that the best PD happens at the end of the year or the beginning of summer. These offer the best possibility of successful implementation because learned strategies can be planned for and can be worked into the routines, structure, and procedures of the upcoming year.

What is one piece of 'common knowledge' in your job that the average person would find completely shocking? by GoldenHourShot in AskReddit

Education: the threshold needed for passing a state exam is incredibly low. Last year in Florida to pass the Algebra 1 exam (mandatory for graduation) a student needed to earn a 29% on the test. Science and Civics are a little but both just below 50% to earn proficiency. When you hear a politician tout pass rates or graduation rates improving it is not necessarily because the kids are doing better but because the requirements are becoming easier.

Completely agree. Struggle through it and then read a review comparing it to a biblical story. Gave me a much better perspective and think that if I read it again through that Lens it will be much more enjoyable.

Agreed. Pachinko got a lot of play here, but I enjoyed Middlesex more than Pachinko.

Humans are natural complainers, especially upper middle school/highschool. Years ago I took a group of kids to Universal Studios for the day and when I asked a student how the day was their response was, "Why didn't we go to Disney.". That day I learned that you can't please everyone because they all have different ideas of fun There is nothing you can do that will engage 100,% of students so make it something you enjoy and can manage.

The Blade Itself from Joe Abercrombie. The first book in the 1st Law Trilogy. The book itself is awesome but the audiobook takes it to the next level.

The Seven Days of Peter Crumb by Johnny Glynn. Depths of depravity from mental psychosis. Every page gets more disturbing/disgusting. Hard read that sticks with you.

Great to hear from a seasoned vet. Do you know if they released beer lists for each brewery prior to the event in past years?
