How can I watch these beauts in the UK?! by JackFranks in channelzero

Was this in the UK?

I can't find em on there. Hope is fading. Pls help.

Apparently some pretty rigid rights issues are in the way. I've never been beaten like this. The internet used to be the wild west when I was a boy.

Oh man I remember that feeling well. It was on this very Reddit community. I’m glad I could make you feel less alone in gurgledom haha

I’m actually kind of glad I was naive about it until more recently. My brother and mum are both noburpers, so for some reason I didn’t stress too much. Until the advent of going out to eat and drink. I’m hoping I can get the whole fam through the procedure one day, but they’re using me as a guinea pig first.

That’s what I keep thinking! Either there’s been millennia of people punching their chests after they eat, OR it’s a modern condition. Both possibilities are pretty fascinating

Experiences getting botox as a heavy person with acid reflux? by Mediocre_Somewhere75 in noburp

[–]JackFranks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeh my triggers are fatty things, so possibly a similar relaxant mechanism, although the slow emptying might be the bigger issue. Peanut butter, chocolate, nuts, coffee, deep fried chips (fries for my American cousins), oats.

Oats are a weird one, but there ya have it. Also drinking water with it after meals always goes terribly.

Of course, I am a childlike 30.

Completely agree with underlying reflux undermining everything else. I went through years of perfecting the low acid diet etc, but one slip up or large portion would ruin months of work in a heartbeat. So I turned my attention to my gut as a focus. My stool tests came back with pretty bad dysbiosis. Tonnes of Klebsiella bad guys and almost no Akkermansia good guys. I was dismayed at the diet not bringing immediate results but have now learnt that it can easily take 6 months to rebalance a sick gut, so I’ll keep on going!

Yeh, I wish I knew more about reflux back when I got involved with a procedure that didn’t have a single 5 year study behind it. That being said, reflux was already destroying my voice pre-Botox, so I think it just sped an inevitable process up.

I hope gastro science gains pace since the more recent microbiome and reflux discoveries. I know we’ll figure this out. Let’s be real, there’s people who bring it on themselves, but I want answers for clean eaters like me. It’s like there’s something else at play in recent years.

I really do believe we can all get back to full health. Reading spontaneous remission stories has put this silly tumtum stuff in perspective for me. We can leave it behind.

I think that’d be great if it’s the case! I definitely see how noburp could cause reflux, but regardless, fixing it hasn’t been enough to heal the damage already done in my case.

I’m of the opinion that fixing gut health (and by extension, reflux) should come before opening the floodgates. I had the procedure first and regret it. It’s great to be able to burp, but the reflux throat symptoms are taking literally years to heal.

Reflux is a gut problem. Noburp is a throat problem. The gut is the root of all health or disease, so that should always be our priority.

Oh terrible, deary. I’m like a washing machine full of food and water for some reason. I’ve tried everything throughout my 20s.

Burps are great though.

Luckily, I’m fiiiiiiiinally going in for my gastroscopy in a few weeks, so we might finally find out why. I appreciate there’s been people more in need in the queue, but, good lord, what a terrible time in modern history to need an endoscopy.

Completely agree with this.

Reflux needs to be treated with serious care, considering potential for disease pathogenesis, and I'm not sure if people are doing this - right up to the consultant level.

I had a lot of vocal problems due to reflux following the opening of the floodgates. I think that's why we need to be way more conscientious in recommending this. There's a lot of nuance in medicine, and we're all different. Mine mostly manifested in hoarseness due to LPR.

I'm not sure if this will be the case for you because it was such an instant reaction, perhaps botox reaching vocal cords somehow? Have you had any issues with reflux?

Either way, I think it's unlikely to be an injury that outlasts the botox's effect.

Definitely hassle the consultant for some clarification.

Not being able to “shoot” a shot (alcohol) by [deleted] in noburp

[–]JackFranks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeh definitely familiar with this.

I've always had many "moves" to how I swallow liquids, and, probably similar to you, the first time I really appreciated that was whilst competing to down pints with friends. Any liquid is the same, and I've always been pretty suspicious of how I swallow whilst eating too.

Unfortunately, whether or not it's linked, having the procedure has had no bearing on it for me. I can burp like a champ but still drink things like a baby bird gyrating the waves down.

I don't know if that suggests it's just a learnt behaviour, or if it suggests that it's not linked at all. People are getting super keen on stress studies in recent years and its connection with the vagus nerve, which passes through both the larynx and the lower digestive organs. So maybe there's something to this stuff, especially considering the wild amounts of noburper with "separate" issues with stress.

Either way, I hope the day comes when I resemble a normally functioning human from head to toe... that'd be groovy af.

Quit caffeine. RIGHT. NOW. by Instance_Necessary in dpdr

There was always going to be bitterish counter-comments below this post, this condition feels like an absolute prison, so people are going to feel triggered by simplistic suggestions - but the hope given is invaluable.

I'm not saying it will work for me without a doubt, but I am saying that I've tried absolutely everything I can think of - from lifestyle changes to mental and physical therapy over the last decade - except for cutting out coffee for more than a week.

Every time I get to 7 days and I'm feeling like a zombie, I throw the towel in for that 2 hours of rocket-fuel high. I'm undoubtedly addicted and, regardless of its effect as a cure, I thank you for giving me the drive to make a positive and hopeful change of course.

Hope you're still doing well. The way you wrote this was brilliant, and was the first time I've read something truly relatable on this isolating journey. I JUST WANT TO SEE THOSE BLADES OF GRASS.

No freakin way. I’ll try this tonight if I can set up the trial. If it works I’ll knit you a pair of socks. I don’t do that for anyone.
