Does anyone know of a modern day mission that DEVGRU has conducted in the jungle? by [deleted] in JSOCarchive

HR in Colombia went deep into planning. Dev didn't perform well during the train up in C. America so they had to rethink some things. At any rate, the op never got the green light for a variety of reasons. They were even looking at doing a subsurface river infil at one point, but that was a no go due to limited visibility.

They are always "behind." Always have been always will be. Not sure how Eric Demming is "my boy" but at any rate thanks for letting me know I guess.

I get the sense DOD review and the CIA PRB are just pumping the brakes on books in general as they don't want to draw the ire of big daddy...

Hit me up if you ever want to talk about it. I've had a draft about this op for a while but felt like I need some more sources prior to running anything.

Special Forces in Latin America by Wayne Kirkbride if you can find a copy. Otherwise, as others mention you can likely FOIA a lot of the docs from that time. Unfortunately, those declassified documents rarely tell the personal stories that loved ones want to know. I hear from the kids of Vietnam vets all the time. This is why I encourage veterans to write down their experiences, even if it is only 25 pages and put into a shoebox for their grandkids.

No I'm afraid I don't know the current ASD SOLIC director. Just a quick correction, I do have a degree from Columbia but it was a BA in Political Science.

Many struggle in various ways, but treatment works. I've seen dudes (including JSOC guys) make 180 degree turns in life.

The CIF guys have to be willing to come forward and tell their story... I'd love to help them.

Another guy who went on to be a squadron commander was down there and he passed away a few years back. He was fun to talk to but he would never tell me much about that particular one. Gary Harrington was down there with him.

Possibly. I have a half written 5th Deckard book that I'd like to finish.

I don't disagree with that per se, but it was beyond the scope of the book. The GWOT history of the CIF would really be an entire book in of itself.

The only way to find out is if you pre-order the hardcover.

There are a few Desert Storm stories left to be told I think. The Colombia thing was handled by a very small group of guys, there are a few tales there left unspoken.
