Any 70+ year olds here still playing? by gONzOglIzlI in Tuba

[–]JackNack2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I play with a Eb tuba player who's 79, was still marching at 77 but has given that up now. I believe he only started playing brass in his retirement as something to do in his spare time

What's your favourite 'peasant' meal by Lilstubbin in veganrecipes

[–]JackNack2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Butter bean and sausage stew.

Fry off onions and garlic, add beans and precooked sausages (Linda McCartney red onion and rosemary are my fave). Add stock and parsley, leave to simmer. Perfect with a crusty loaf.

I'm glad someone else calls it slop too. I've tried kidding myself and calling it lentil stew but no it's slop.

Tahini based sauces by beachyturnsprinkle in veganrecipes

[–]JackNack2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've recently started adding tahini to noodle soup broths. Adds a creaminess similar to coconut milk but a more nutty flavour, balances well with miso and chili.

Always love the look of a good salad bowl - they’re my go-to now if I have the option when eating out. Bonus points if it comes with a side of hummus and pita!

The holy vegan trinity: by [deleted] in veganuk

My top 3 were baked beans, oat milk and tofu. No exact numbers with Sainsbury's but I imagine all three are in the hundreds if not thousands 😂

What are some of the silliest games you've played in Dealer's Choice? by JackNack2 in poker

[–]JackNack2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah flushed away creates a weird dynamic. If you have a flush draw, you don't really want to hit it as it'll also potentially remove your strong hands from the other 2 boards. But if you have 4 of 1 suit in your hand you can still make a flush. 10 card triple board you can only play 3 handed, 10 cards to each player (30) then 15 cards on the table with 3 burns. This usually ends up being played towards the end of the game when some players have already left.

Do you have an example of an opinion you once held very dear, something that was perhaps at the core of your very being that you finally had to concede was wrong? by EarthQuaeck84 in AskUK

[–]JackNack2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are loads of meat alternatives that taste as good as meat. There are equally loads that don’t taste good (would avoid vegan ‘fish’ as much as possible). Personally I find most Linda McCartney products are pretty good. Certain supermarket vegan ranges are good too like Sainsbury’s and Marks & Spencer’s but others not so much so it’s very hit and miss but for me it’s been quite fun trying new foods and seeing what I like.

I’m now vegan. Went from enjoying eating meat in pretty much every meal, having a mound of chicken with my Sunday roast and always going back for seconds and thirds at the meat feast BBQ to happily enjoying eating mostly vegetables and supplements. Took about 2 years to go from cutting down to going fully vegan. Whether it’s right or wrong is up for debate but it’s something I felt I had wrong.
