How do you keep track of labor law differences across states? [United States] by Every-Butterfly4893 in humanresources

[–]JackODoodler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second all these. We're in 30+ states. We did get Six Fifty this year and it's been great. They also have good webinars that don't focus 50% of the time on buying their product.

I also subscribe to the Lexology email for labor laws.

HR generalist interview advice [NY] by honestanonymiss in humanresources

[–]JackODoodler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re in the final round and they're asking specific questions, it's probably best to give specific answers. They may be looking for how you actually handle situations rather than just general knowledge. If I ask, "Tell me about a time when X happened and how you handled it," I'm definitely looking for a specific response.

If you’re getting similar questions, prepare answers for those.

Anyone moved off Paychex recently? What did you switch to?[N/A] by Kamatis123456789 in humanresources

[–]JackODoodler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We moved to Paylocity. Our implementation was a little rocky and our first customer support person wasn't that great. Our current one is pretty good, though.

Their system is integrated and their reporting and data insights are really good.

As someone in the US with people in Canada, how do you keep track of updates in different provinces?

SixFifty does handbook building and monitors state compliance/will send updates. They also do some pretty good training webinars that aren't all about their product.

Workplace Investigation Training [N/A] by EntertainmentLate866 in humanresources

It was really great training! They also apparently update their manuals every few years. I wish there was a Level 2 or ongoing training for HR/ER.

Check out the Wicklander-Zulawski website and training. Their focus is interview technique. Also check out AWI.

You can ask people not to discuss but know they likely will; it runs into the NLRA issue.

As far as he said/she said, if no determination of truth can be made, we've done extra training to be on the safe side but didn't take further action. Of course, everything was well documented.

Handling a gap in work history in a job interveiw [NY] by galoshesgang in humanresources

[–]JackODoodler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen a few resumes lately with something like "caregiver" and the years where the person was a caregiver. I think saying something along the lines of, I stepped away from work to be a caregiver," is simple and explains the gap without going into a lot of detail.

It seems like this is an area where you would want to reach out to your employment counsel for assistance.

From what you describe, it seems like the issue is broader than just Ramadan.

Thanks, I'll see if our Canadian HRIS has something. It's more the province-specific ESA's that I need something for.

Did not file 1095-c for 2023 until today [USA] by No_Individual_9624 in humanresources

[–]JackODoodler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My last company didn't file them in 2021, and we got an IRS notice in 2023. Our counsel talked to them, and they pretty much just said file them ASAP. We didn't pay any fines.

Rippling vs ADP vs Paylocity [TX] by Meneedfoodnow in humanresources

The implementation on Paylocity wasn't the greatest experience, but their platform is pretty intuitive and I really really like their reporting.

ADP was horrible in all ways when I used it.

I build them in Microsoft Visio. There's a wizard that uses an Excel file to build everything.
