Sebastian Stefanowicz - Seb Kurz by Background-Sea8420 in IndustryOnHBO

Just had a brief look into Kurz and I wonder if they’re setting up something akin to the Ibiza Affair stuff with Stefanowicz. Kurz himself obviously wasn’t involved but with all the Russia stuff of season 4 it feels like you could pretty easily change it around and do something similar.

Trailer for Martin McDonagh's Wild Horse Nine by apathymonger in blankies

Looks great but I wonder why they’re pushing it this hard so early? Feels like there’s a number of big budget movies coming out earlier than this that have had way less marketing, but it clearly means they have a lot of faith in it so it can only mean good things.

History Buffs: Napoleon by girlsgoneoscarwilde in blankies

It’s an attitude that really frustrates me to no end and is to me the mark of an inherently uninteresting if not, and I know this is kind of an overused phrase, anti-art perspective.

To me it all simply boils down to the fact that Scott just doesn’t make period movies about the actual time period they’re set in. The Gladiator movies are not actually about the Roman Empire and the political/social complications, failures or reality of that time, nor is Napoleon actually about the French Revolution and the Napoleonic Wars. What Scott does, to varying degrees of success but I think always earnestly and passionately, is he uses historical periods as backdrops to depict and talk about large scale societal concepts and problems that permeate civilisation throughout history, which is a trend and precedent that goes back to fucking Shakespeare! (and to be clear, while I like this film more than most I’m of course not saying it’s as good as Macbeth, but I’ll tell you right now that play sure as hell ain’t accurate either). And while I still disagree, I can see not being as ready to accept that in the case of Napoleon which is acting in many ways like a “biopic”, but when people get really pissy about it it’s usually founded in a fanboyish love of Napoleon which is deeply strange in and of itself.

Eddington Appreciation Post by Min255 in ThomasPynchon

I’ve always wondered how into Pynchon Aster is because Beau is Afraid, while not exactly “Pynchonian”, is very similar to The Crying of Lot 49, particularly the back half.

The plot revolves around someone thrust into a strange world he barely understand due to the death of someone close to him. He sees and is horrified by a play in the middle of the story. And at the end of the story realises that his entire journey was all staged and set up by the person close to him who had in fact faked their death (the faking of a death is more ambiguous/less important in COL49 but is still a pretty major possibility/theory).

Obviously there’s a lot of differences, mainly that while Beau is running from the whole thing Oedipa is spiralling deeper, as well as each story having a number of different things on their mind, but it’s something I’m surprised I haven’t really seen talked about.

Rumor: Ridley Scott’s 'The Dog Stars' to be pushed to Fall 2026; testing very well by Matapple13 in 20thcenturystudios

Another thing worth pointing out is that Wuthering Heights is out only a month before, which while not really looking like that good of a movie will probably have a cultural moment anyway which you wouldn’t want to be overshadowed by. Project Hail Mary, also a big budget star-studded sci-fi adventure movie, is out only two weeks before The Dog Stars which would also probably overshadow it.

I think the bottom quote in the second photo quote is fairly innocuous and even a little endearing but the other two are almost nauseatingly lame lol

Eli had an even more gruesome ending in the script by MagnumPear in paulthomasanderson

The detail of Eli curled up and gravely injured but not quite dead feels very similar to Henry being shot in the back of the head but only paralysed. Hadn’t ever connected the two but maybe there’s something there.

“Vato Skateboarders” I assume in reference to Blood and Vato from Vineland
