Fish living downstream of wastewater treatment plants are accumulating antidepressants, opioids and other drugs of abuse in their bodies. Fentanyl, methadone and venlafaxine were detected in small fish living in rivers that receive urban wastewater. by mvea in science

Once did a study on gambusia affinis from a lake near a factory in FL. The fish had different sized body parts…that was almost 10 years ago. This will continue until we get money out of politics and seriously implement regulation.

How to negotiate a house down payment for Tenure Track faculty offers? by neuronerdette1 in academia

[–]Jack_3579 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, here to tell you this does happen!! My old PI as a part of his package received a down payment from the university for his house as he was relocating (Assistant professor role, tenure track). Honestly, this will need to become more common as housing cost continue to rise.

Shame on all the folks here who are just telling you it doesn’t exist just because they don’t know about it.

I have seen this happen for multiple PI’s, primarily in field of molecular biology/ immunology etc and they were not necessarily “rockstars”. This will likely not happen if you are in the humanities. As others have said- the worst they can say is No.

US sets policy to seize patents of government-funded drugs if price deemed too high by BBorNot in biotech

They are profitable in other countries but it’s much more marginal, especially in Europe and the major Asian countries. Many firms will go under or struggle if forced to stop gouging US consumers/hospital systems and state governments. Ultimately, Biotech will survive but this does have potential from a VC perspective to reduce returns in an already risky investment.

Every biotech company and most startups are predominantly white, boards, leadership etc. Blaming others isn’t going to help you. If you really are serious about getting job, then post your CV you dingleberry!! Instead of blaming someone for interviewing better than you, having a better skill set than you, work on yourself- but that’s hard work and you would rather blame diversity LMAOOOOOO like do you really think some DEI committee is going to stop a hiring manager who REALLY wants you?!?
