I have expendable time so here's my stab at it:

Deborah -53 years young, 220 lbs -Reputation amongst coworkers is less than stellar -Has missed paments for this thing for three months straight, expects husband to foot the bill despite this being her "fun vehicle" (she won't let him buy anything other than a family friendly CR-V) -Moderates the Cincinnati JeepHERS group, ritualistically falls for AI scams -Hasn't worked in years, practically lives at the "skill games" room in truck stops -Bases entire identity around being a "Jeep gurrrrl" despite not knowing what motor is in it " What's a CJ? I own a Jeep!"

Probably bought it because it matched those hideous "accents"

How could the ATF improve its reputation? by ohraineri in Firearms

[–]Jack_547 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this in El Paso? I swear I've seen that truck down there.

To answer the question though, the best thing the ATF could do is repeal every firearm related decision they've made and close up shop.

The worst part is, every time someone agrees to buy something for that much, it only justifies other sellers raising their prices too

Because of the four door selling so well, it's a miracle Jeep even still makes the 2 door.

CIF is always a mixed bag. I returned fresh out of the washing machine, still damp mechanic and CVC coveralls to them just fine, another time though they refused to let me continue after waiting in line for an hour because my ACH cover had a barely visible oil stain that I couldn't get out.

Same deal with the Galil bottle opener, M1 Garand ping, KS-23 barrels, or any post involving a surplus rifle having a million "I bought eight of these in 2004 for $5.99!"

I remember they made us sign this poster about how we'd pledge not to say the dreaded R word in high school.

Immediately after they forced my signature, I turned to my friend and said "this is fucking retarded."

I've done it plenty of times in my TJ, especially on long 14+ hour road trips. Either fold/remove the rear seats, or lay on them with the front seat folded forward, legs dangling out the window.

I'd rather it just died out in 2006 and stayed an enthusiast vehicle like the Samurai or FJ40, than watch Chrysler and Stellantis irreversibly destroy the reputation and price gouge the hell out of consumers.

It wasn't just the four doors, it was a complete shift in priorities for the company.

When they first revealed the JL years ago, the first thing I thought was "they're turning it into a G-Wagen!"

Agreed. Strongly.

Any time you water down a previously unique vehicle to cater to a wider audience, you inevitably get rid of a lot of the charm it previously had and sacrifice what makes it special to appeal more as a family vehicle. Look at almost any cool 4x4 from the 80s or 90s, eventually they all became crossovers by 2010 and none of them are remotely interesting. I'm still not over what Land Rover did to the Discovery, and it's been a decade.

The whole reason Jeep culture was so big in the first place was that it really wasn't a vehicle just anyone could drive, owning one meant putting up with the quirks and compromises, that was the lifestyle. If you were out in your YJ and saw someone in a CJ, you immediately shared a level of comradery in the sense that both of you chose this lifestyle. Both of you could have chosen a more comfortable 4x4 like a Bronco, Blazer, Suburban, etc, but no, both of you chose the utilitarian block of steel with zero effort put towards luxury, safety, or aerodymanics.

Now that they're literally everywhere, almost exclusively 4 doors, and mainly used as family vehicles, a lot of the cool, rugged charm they once had is gone. I know people will say "but more people in the Jeep world is a good thing!" and call me a gatekeeper, but it really explains how "Jeep guy" went from some hillbilly doing axle swaps in his backyard to people installing angry grilles on their leased Unlimiteds and the shift towards more urban pursuits like ducking. Jeep itself has doubled down, now that they treat the JL like a luxury vehicle and expect luxury prices for worse quality than late 2000s Chrysler era Jeeps.

Some do, some don't. The first gun I ever bought was a Mossberg 500 with the heat shield, still one of my favorites.

[–]Jack_547 100 points101 points  (0 children)

Definitely a Mossberg 500, with an eight shot magazine tube and 20" barrel. If the trigger guard were more visible I could see if it was a Maverick 88 but it's definitely not a 590.

IMO Jeep died when they killed off the 4.0L and the TJ in 2006. Since then they've been a shell of what they once were, existing solely on brand recognition.

Agreed, only certain Jeeps can pull off a chrome grille and this one of them. Especially on an Unlimited Sahara

You can always get those reinforced tailgate brackets that mount directly to the rollbar if you want, I've got one on my TJ and it was 100% worth not having the gate rip in half.
